The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

At the beginning of February 2022 the site will experience a 5 year time jump! The IC year will jump from 822 to 827! This gives us about 8 months to prepare our characters for that jump. We plan to host very intentional planning sessions to help everyone get their plots and characters ready for this! As of this moment, one thing you should all start considering is making sure the threads your characters are in are furthering your character's stories.
As Dijila and Rashai start making their way towards the border, scouts catch sight of the 5,000 Coheed warriors that are heading towards the cave of names. Adhla (currently NPC), takes 4,000 Dresmondi to cut them off while 100 head to the cave of names in case they are needed and 1,000 elderly and children are kept far in the distance and buried in a cave below ground to keep them safe. @akilah and Camus are among the fighters.
Dresmond moves to intercept the path of Coheed. Darkness begins to infect the mind of the Coheed warriors, soon causing a feeling of confusion, fear, and despair among them. The ground rumbles beneath their feet as the Dresmond army moves towards them, making many Coheedsman lose their footing as the ground begins to slowly sink below their feet. Those at the edges may be able to jump to solid ground in time but most will start to sink lower into a pit too deep to scramble out of.
Current troop counts Dresmond: 4,000 Coheed: 5,000 GUIDELINES - Post order is reset at the end of each round, it doesn't matter who posts first. - This is going to be a pretty quick thread. I'd love to have it over by the end of the month so if you guys could make this your priority when first log in that would be top notch! People will be skipped if they don't post when I get on to post. I will post at least every other day, possibly every day. - @kiki is controlling the Coheed army. - We are NOT using the Caybat method this. We're just winging it. You should still underline important actions though and don't assume any deaths. - No more than 200 words per post - I'll do little time jumps in each of my posts at the end of each round of posting and promise to stay on the thread like white on rice. - Let's do this thing!!
5,000 Coheed did not know the massacre they were about to find themselves in. They knew nothing of Dresmond, but they were spurred by numbers. They whooped and laughed as they rode, clanging their weapons on their shields, stopping to take rogue women who had the misfortune of finding themselves in their path.
The darkness takes them by surprise. The sunlight had just been there, had it not? They thought they could remember the feel of it on their skin, like happiness. And yet, it was gone. Perhaps it had never existed, perhaps there had only been dark. Their footwork is unsteady, suddenly the earth seems to fall from beneath them. Somewhere, a commander’s voice urges them on.
Those at the edge run from the nightmare, urging their horses towards the front line of the Dresmondi troops. They can see them coming, and their blades thirst for foreign blood. The full force of the army turns, the cave forgotten. First, they deal with their interrupters.
Mercy had slowed her pace a good deal. Camus stood with a good number of the Rashai who had volunteered to come. Not all that long ago, their driver @adhla had asked that he help train some of their number to fight. He'd obliged and now here they stood. Not all that far away was the Cave of Names. Like many, the blacksmith had personal reasons for not wanting the hordes anywhere near their sacred place. His eldest had never emerged from its earth...
He cast a glance along the Dresmondi lines, searching for some more familiar faces. "Trust and guard your dyr and whoever stands next to you. We kill them quickly before they can get up close." The man whispered the words to any who would hear them, confident that for the most part the screaming force approaching them wouldn't take any notice.
Mercy had crouched down, trying to make her massive form as inconspicuous as possible. A dark dyr hand leant their power in order to assist in concealing her. She was ready, as soon as the men came within range, the elephant would unleash a wall of fire and flame to halt them.
As a former Adoi, Akilah wanted to do her part in protecting the people. She wanted to fight, to defend, she wanted these barbaric savages to think twice before they even dare think that the Dresmondi would just go quietly and allow them to take their home. She, like many others, would fight tooth and claw to protect their sacred land and their people.
The time had come.
She was glad for the refresher course in the training Adhla had put together. She had faith they would do well. The Rashai would work as a well-oiled machine, this she was certain. She looked down the line of familiar faces, Catching Camus eye she gave him a firm nod at his instructions. She had full plans on not making the coheed's men not see what what coming.
She reached down, touching the top of her spotted hyena dyr's head. "Let's have some fun shall we?" She asked looked down. The hyena's response was that bone-chilling laugh of his. Kerr lent his dark power corporealize the coheed's men shadows once they got into range. The plan was to force their shadows into spikes that would pierce through their backs once they were met with Mercy's fire.
The fight had begun. Coheed turned towards their attackers in spite of the initial confusion and darkness. Those who had escaped the pit came running on horseback towards the Dresmondi and were soon met with a wall of fire while many who made it past the flame were met with corporealized spikes piercing through their backs.
Those now stuck in the still sinking pit would find it harder and hard to get out and cracks in earth would start to open beneath their feet. Molten lava from below the earth would begin to seep up along the ground, destroying any who fell into it's depths.
It was with an almighty roar that Mercy made herself known. The elephant stood up on her hind legs, towering over the men as they charged on forwards before unleashing her flames. She wasn't alone as fire erupted from half a dozen other flame dyrs. The plan was simple, at least as far as Camus had conceived it: keep the enemies at a distance and take them down so that they couldn't use their superior strength and speed. As such, they created as much of a barrier before them as they could. Those with earth dyr attempted to force the ground down where their enemies stood whilst those with plants formed a thick wall of thorns and vines to slow their enemies down.
Armed with his lance, Camus would do his best to take out any who came within range. He didn't necessarily aim exclusively to kill, targeting a few so as to maim. All the while, Mercy would continue to spray fire from her trunk, pausing only so as to breathe.
The fire caught many, and the smell of burning bodies filling the air.
Arrows notched. Men pulled back their bows and crossbows, brought their throwing spear up above their heads. They’d aim skyward, letting their ammo arc up and over the lapping flames, falling on anyone beyond the fire’s wall. The army split, skirting around the wall and coming at the Dresmondi from both sides.
Do not fall back, called the commanders from their charging steeds.
Akilah was armed with her dual hooked swords, prepared to use them should anyone dare get within close combat range. Until then, she put Kerr to work.
The Hyena used his darkness to shroud the enemy's mind with it in order to confuse them long enough for the other Dresmondi to use their attacks. With the folly of arrows, she had Kerr turn to use the Dresmondi's shadows in hopes of protecting them from the incoming attack. Going up and over them, before corporatizing to try and stop the arrows. She shouted at those that could use plant matter to curve their veins and thorns upward as added protection as well.
With the enemy on both sides, Akilah chose the closest one, telling Kerr to blind them.

Only a handful of Coheed men were able to find their way out of the pit and as time passed the lava would continue to fill the pit, killing thousands. As Coheed launched weapons over the flames they would kill many and wound even more Dresmondi before their accuracy would start to slip with the confusion caused by dark dyrs as well as barriers going up to protect them from the attacks from above.
An hour into the fight and any left in the pit were all gone, molten lava bubbling up in a small lake of hell fire.
The battle continued in a few smaller and more focused groups. Deaths this round: Coheed: 4,000 Dresmond: 500
Fire, lava, darkness — the battlefield soon turned to hell on earth for the Coheedians as men fell, consumed by magic and elements. Their numbers fell by the thousands, and the commanders watched as their powerful troops dwindled to near nothingness.
The retreat was called, the final 900 turning and fleeing, each man desperate for his own escape into the trees of this foreign Armageddon.
The smell of burning flesh and the cries of dying men were a melody which the blacksmith didn't need to be reminded of. He did his best to block out the horror and focus on what was going on around him.
Mercy let out a brief shriek as an arrow embedded itself into the skin of her front right leg. She always had been a big and relatively easy target. The wound wasn't sufficient to slow the elephant however, as she unleased let another torrent of fire. Camus clenched his teeth, responding by forcing his spear through the throat of one of the attackers trapped too close to the Dresmondi and unable to flee who had decided to give the attack his own, seemingly desperate to at least take someone else with him.
As soon as it was safe, he would turn his back, rushing over to his dyr so as to pull the arrow out. She was fortunate to have thick skin, the injury was comparatively minor. "Don't get careless!" Camus called out to those who would listen. The Coheedsmen had been ill-prepared for the force that they had encountered, the Dresmondi couldn't afford to make the same mistake.
It was clear to see many were fatigued with how long the battle was going on for. The Rashai were not warriors, but they all had fire in their hearts that gave them the energy to see the last of the Coheedians retreat. It was both a welcome sight and a sight of worry. Would they be back?
There was a sickening crunch as Akilah pulled her swords out a man that had made it out of the trenches, only to be greeted by blade and Hyena. Kerr's jaws were coated in blood, making him an even more menacing sight to see as he licked his jaws. He was a little worse for wear but had no major injuries. Akilah wiped her brow, hearing Mercy's cry of pain, she threw an alarmed look over but saw that Camus had dealt with the thread and was tending to her.
She found herself wandering over. "Are you both alright?" She asked. She found herself watching the trees the Coheedians had run off into as Kerr came up to her side. She rested her hand on top of his head out of habit. "What do we next?" She asked. Camus was far more experienced, agreeing with him that they would all need to be careful.
The remaining Coheed retreated and the Dresmondi didn't follow. Under @adhla's direction they would hurry to turn around and go meet Arlo and the others at the border. Final troop count: Coheed: 900 Dresmond: 3,500 [END THREAD]
Good work guys! I did check with Cay about what Adhla would have done there at the end. They will arrive to meet with Arlo and the others about 3 hours after this battle.
