The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

[ Made for @logan ]
Autumna was soon behind them, war was not forgotten about, or even over. But Hiems didn't want for anyone. The air grew colder around them, the nights crept in earlier and earlier in the day. Even lasting long as well. Alys was thrilled for the change, though she was sure she'd be eager for the floral season that followed to come quickly. But for now, she enjoyed the crispness in the air. A dark jacket pulled around her as she dismounted Kirin. She took a run out on horse back, daring even to get close to the ocean on her own. Sitting tall on the red roan's horses back as she faced it. Slowly, she was learning to face that fear.
She stared out at the empty field. The one where she had met Logan all those months ago for a one on one sparring session. One where he gave her tips on how to be a better soldier, and they had agreed to navigation lessons from herself. A faint smile lifted her lips at the memory. Sitting in the tall grass together. Kirin let out a deep breath, slapping her lips together as she tried to catch a tall blade of grass as it danced in the wind. Alys' hand slowly petting her neck.
Something caught her eye, forcing her to turn her face up towards the sky. Was that... it was! Snow! A small laugh left her. There it was. Hiems was officially there.
Logan had promised to meet her but he was running late. He had to do something first and it had taken longer than he had expected. He raced towards the field on the back of his large black Friesian, Arod. As he rode it started snowing and Logan smiled, looking up at the sky under the rocking motion of the stallion below him. Logan loved snow, he loved winter. He was even born in winter. And though normally people thought of spring as a fresh start, Logan felt that the new season was as good of a fresh start as any.
By the time he reached Alys there was a small layer of snow on everything around them. He slowed Arod as he spotted Kirin and the form of Alys beside her. The stallion didn't need direction and stopped beside the mare, his nose nudging against her shoulder as Logan dismounted from the tall horse. His boots crunched in the soft layer of snow, not quite deep enough to make a snowball just yet.
He pulled his coat tighter around him and walked over to Alys. "I'm so sorry I'm late," he said. "Are you freezing?"

She wasn't sure how long she had waited for him, time passed by fast enough but she definitely noticed the build up of snow by the time her ears picked up on the sound of hoof beats. Large ones. Which to her meant that Arod was coming flying their way. She turned on the ground, looking over her shoulder as they appeared over the hill side and a small smile slipped into place at the sight. Small snowflakes had clung to her curls as they fell onto her head. A light pinkness settling on her cheeks and nose from the cold air. She grinned as Arod seemed to greet his now familiar friend. Or perhaps girlfriend as Alys liked to tease.
Those brown eyes of hers moved over to Logan as he approached, her smile growing wider with each step he took towards her. "I'm actually alright for now." Alys turned towards him and automatically reached for him, lifting herself to the tips of her toes to brush a kiss to his lips in greeting. It was becoming so natural really with them. She was good about being reserved in public, well behaved, but when it was just the two of them, she didn't mind being wrapped up in him. "Though if I had to wait much longer I think I would have been frozen over."
Logan instantly wrapped his arms around her as soon as she was within reach. It still surprised him sometimes that despite the fact they had been together for so many months now that he still couldn’t keep his hands off of her. Maybe it had something to do with the restraint they had to have when they were in public.
His returned kiss was the not the greeting peck of familiarity. He kissed her as if it had been weeks since they had seen one another, as if each kiss might be their last. His fingers curled into her snow dusted curls as he pressed his lips to hers before he broke the kiss to smile down at her.
“Hmmm, well I know a great way to warm you right up if you need,” he said with a playfully lust filled expression in his eyes. Still, he unbuttoned his coat and pulled her in with him, wrapping his arms and coat around her. “How was your day, darling?” He regularly asked this question but he found himself more and more paying attention to any stories about men she interacted with. As if each one was a threat to this bliss they had together.

She shifted easily into him as he pulled her closer, and the kiss he placed on her had a soft moan leave her throat to land on his lips. She responded instantly, her hands gripping the fabric of his shirt and kissing him back with just as much passion. When he leaned back she gasped for air for a moment. “Well hello to you too.” She mumbled, a bright smile crossed her lips.
“I’m sure you do.” She practically purred back to him. Her hands smoothing the material of his shirt out from where she had grasped it tightly just seconds before. “But maybe we should save that for when we are back home.” Home. She had found herself staying at his place more often than not. Her own home being visited only to pick up supplies or for the occasion that he was out at the Hollow. She made a new habit it seemed, and she was slowly slipping into being with him more often than not. She wasn’t complaining by any means.
“It was good, had rounds with Tristian and Isobel again. But we made it out in one piece.” She had been at the docks with them. It was nice to have the distraction from the water. And it helped pass the time as well. “How was your day? Get everything done?” Probably not, but it didn’t hurt to ask. Her arms wrapping around his waist as he tucked her into his arms and coat. Instantly feeling more warm than before thanks to his embrace.
"Hmmm, I suppose so," he replied as if considering that they didn't have to wait long that. While it was technically true he wasn't actually eager to expose themselves to this snow. With her wrapped up in his jacket he rubbed her back with one hand while the other kept it closed around her. He could smell her hair and her body warmed him as much as his warmed hers.
He felt himself bristling when she mentioned rounding with Tristan but the addition of Isobel helped to ease his tension. He couldn't explain it, but in the last several weeks he had become more and more protective over her, especially when she spent time with men. There was no real reason for it, well, besides her history with Cassian. Maybe it was just that with the recent loss of his son he was afraid of losing her too.
"Not everything, but enough. Everything that was time sensitive," he replied. He looked up into the sky and closed his eyes, a soft smile on his face. "I love snow," he commented softly.

A soft laugh left her lips. "Would you rather try and lay your coat on the ground? I can try to keep you warm," She teased him further, her voice obviously showing signs that it would be a bad idea. They'd be cold very fast. She'd have to halfway undress and he would too. Home was the best option. If he was already getting the urge again. Which reminded her that she would need to go pick up more potion here soon to continue her end of their deal.
A soft nod against his chest happened as he answered her. "I'd offer to help... but I don't think you need that head ache on your hands." She told him, her lips brushing a kiss to his chest. She didn't know how to read or write and those were needed to help him for the most part.
Her eyes moved to watch the snow as he mentioned it, watching it drift down to land on the ground around them. To be caught on his coat around her and even the tip of her nose. It hit her then, her head moving to pull back a little and look up at him. "Your birthday is coming up." She said with a small grin. "Is there anything you would want?" She definitely would be getting him something. Whether he told her something or not.
Logan chuckled at her teasing suggestion. "I'd really rather not," he said honestly with a light laugh. As much as he enjoyed their physical relationship he wasn't actually eager to tumble around with her in the snow. His hand moved to rest on the side of her neck and his thumb gently stroked her jaw as she kissed his chest.
He looked back down at her as she spoke about his birthday and cringed his nose a little. He remembered the birthday party for Cailean and Lillia and while that had been quite an enjoyable experience for him, remembering that sexy red dress she had worn that day that was now in shreds, the party itself sounded like torture to Logan. "No," he replied to her question. "All I want is you. Please no parties," he practically begged. He really wasn't a fan of over the top parties with tons of people. Even less so if he was the guest of honor and center of attention.

She caught the look of... well the lack of excitement that went across his face. She grinned at him from his chest as he went on to tell her he didn't want parties. Only her. That stirred something in her that was a mixture of pure love and something close to lust. He wanted her. It was still a shock to her, out of all the women in Nevermere. He was chasing her. A commoner with not really anything to offer him. She couldn't even really say that it was because she was good in bed or anything of that sorts, as that was a more recent development. But even then, she was sure there were others out there that would compare... right?
Though if you were to turn the question on her and say 'but you could have any man'... she'd laugh. She had the one she wanted. Logan Delaney. There was no question about it. She chose him and even though she was now dealing with that, she wouldn't change her mind. "No parties. I can do that. But there has to be more than just me as a gift or want." Though she really had no idea what she could offer him that he couldn't get for himself. Besides... well her. "Or do I just wrap a bow around myself and call it a night?"
A small sense of relief washed over him when she confirmed there would be no parties. At least he wouldn't have to stress about that. Honestly even worse than a party would have been a surprise party. No, that was not at all Logan's cup of tea. He could throw surprise parties for others, but if someone did the same for him then it would be far from his favorite thing in the world. To be tossed into a party with a lot of people when he didn't have time to prepare himself for it? Absolutely not.
He smirked down at her at her suggestion of wrapping herself in a bow, his arms hugging her more tightly against him. "Mmmm, how about you wrapped up in only a bow?" he suggested with a grin.

She had to laugh. "What about I cook you a dinner? Just us. That can be your party. I can't promise for the rest of the Delaney's but nothing from me." Alys was not against big events, though she was also never the center of attention for them. She liked seeing others and seeing everyone laugh and have a good time. Her birthday back in Aestas she had spent alone. It had been during the time she had stepped back from everyone. So it had just been another day. Nothing worth celebrating
She slipped her hands into his shirt, spanning her hands against the skin on his back. He was warm and she enjoyed the way he tightened around her. A small hum of approval at his suggestion left her. Tilting her head up at him. "Just a bow? But then you'd have nothing to unwrap..."
Logan grinned. "Dinner with you sounds perfect," he agreed. Small, intimate, just her. That's all he really wanted. He wondered how much he might be able to use the 'but it's my birthday' line with her over the evening. The thought made him smile.
When she commented about him having nothing to unwrap he smirked down at her. "Sure I will, I'll have to remove the bow won't I?" he joked. He placed a kiss to her forehead, feeling a few cold snowflakes against his lips.
He slipped his hand into hers and stepped away from her as she started to walk a little, hearing the crunch of snow beneath his feet. "I used to make snowmen a lot as a kid," he commented. "I would make entire families," he chuckled at the memory and bent to start gathering snow into a pile so he could start to roll it. There wasn't a lot of snow, but maybe he could make a tiny snowman.

The kiss to her forehead had her closing her eyes and smiling. She liked this, this comfort that seemed to come with him now. She felt like she knew him well and yet he seemed to still surprise her at times. It was a balance that she could barely place into words and yet made perfect sense all at once. He was her chaos as much as he was her light in the dark.
She let out a small groan of complaint as he stepped away from her and started to walk a little. But she followed without much resistance. Her hand forming into his and she stuffed the other into the pocket of her jacket. Her eyes moved to his free hand as he started to roll it and she slowly released his hand, reaching down to start packing the light hint of snow into a ball. "A whole family of them? Would they be families you made up? Or would you make the whole Delaney crew?" She asked, her curls falling into her face as she crouched and looked at what she was doing. "I was always a bigger fan of snow goddesses and snowball fights." She commented. Being the youngest of her siblings made it that she was usually picked on so she had to be tough and quick.
Logan chuckled. "Far too many Delaneys for that, I'd run out of snow before I finished," he joked. "Usually it was a small family of four; Father, mother, son and daughter. Maybe a dog if I was feeling particularly ambitious," he said with another little chuckle. He loved the image in his mind of a young Alys lying on her back in the snow making a snow goddess, snow clinging to her wild, dark curls.
He smirked though when she mentioned snow ball fights and the snow he had been packing, apparently to make a snowman, was lifted and suddenly tossed at Aly's chest.

She nodded, shrugging her shoulders in a 'fair enough' way. There were a lot of Delaney's. Not that it was a bad thing. Alys rather liked how large the family was, and she rather liked most of them. They seemed to like her as well, the ones that were Logan's age and younger. The older ones still seemed a bit apprehensive about a commoner amongst them. Whether she was military or not. And especially after her demotion. Which she hadn't really talked about to many outside of Logan and those close to her. And her would have been pairing who noticed she wasn't around anymore.
"A snow dog. Now that you will have to show me one day. Can't say I've seen one of those." She was turning her head to look up at him when a ball of white hit her chest. She quickly looked down at her shirt, seeing the remains of the snowball clinging to the material of her jacket and the rest clumped onto the ground. Her brown eyes moving from the ground up to Logan. "... You didn't." She challenged lowly. Slowly brushing off the front of her shirt as she stooped down and started to nonchalantly gather up a handful of snow.
"You have no idea Logan Delaney." She laughed as she quickly pressed the snow into a ball and launched it towards his chest.
