The MORRIGAN Family
The Morrigan’s value power and status above all else. Appearances are particularly important to Adder, and he pushes his children to be the best they can be: the witches in their magic and etiquette, and the men in how renowned they are for their skills. They are a family known for the witches they produce, and Adder puts a lot of stress and importance on keeping magic pure - untainted by unnecessary combat training. Adder Morrigan himself has a personal vendetta against both the Delaneys and the Rainecourt family, and in private is a staunch voice against the continued reign of that line.
The head of household is always the eldest male of the family, generally followed by his eldest son or closest male relative. That is currently Adder Morrigan. The Morrigan Coven, comprised of its witches, is always led by the most powerful witch in the Morrigan family. That is currently one of Adder's nieces.
Adder Morrigan is not the most outwardly affectionate man, and it wasn’t common to find comfort in his arms as the Morrigan children grew up. He left the child-rearing to his wife, and was largely hands-off with both his biological children and the wards he took in after the deaths of his brothers and their wives. Where Adder did step in was as an authority figure; the final voice in any decision, and as the children grew older, he began the process of grooming them and instilling his beliefs in them.
Maturity is determined by the normal societal standards - and what that means for the men and women of the Morrigan family are two entirely different things. Witches of the Morrigan name are sent on a sabbatical for two years following the end of their mandatory military training. They are sent to live in the mountains with an elder of the Morrigan Coven, who teaches them about their magic and how to use it. Men are usually pushed to start finding wives or making names for themselves.
Generally arranged, Adder Morrigan is all about status and power, and pushes his children to find beneficial matches whenever possible. Particularly, Adder pushes his sons to wed women from families close to the crown, an effort of his to breed into (and ultimately breed out) their enemies whilst also expanding his family’s numbers and supporters.
All female Morrigans are members of the Morrigan Coven. Morrigan witches are allowed to have their own - acceptable - professions in addition to their Coven duties, but generally are expected to put the Coven first.
The Morrigans are mostly made up of courtiers and socialites. As the family focuses on encouraging the building of magical prowess, the males of the Morrigan family are largely left to their own devices and choices as far as occupation goes. There are a few rare exceptions for military careers, though Adder is abhorrently against any witches being involved in the military past their mandatory training, as he believes that that particular career path stunts magical growth.
All Morrigans are Nobles.
LAND & WEALTH
Stormview Ridge is a large, very nice manor built on the top of a cliff overlooking the ocean. It has multiple acreages, a small garden, a family pond, and a small forest runs behind it. It was built as a family home and reflects that in it’s warmth and many decorational bits. The upper levels are mostly rooms focused on magical training, though it’s nothing compared to the mountain cottage where Morrigan witches go to train. The Morrigan wealth has been built on decades of presence in the court, networking, and individual businesses backed by the family name.

- Adder is the eldest Morrigan, preceding 3 brothers and a sister. Adder married Rowena.
Warrick was second eldest, and he married Iliana.
Fabian was third born, and he married Nora.
Zale was fourth born, and he married Melisandra.
Sarilla was fifrth born, and she married King Urion Ellis.
The usurpation of the throne by Julius Rainecourt spelled the death of many of Adder's family, as it was primarily the Morrigan’s who rose up against the killing of King Urion and the banishment of his heir, Urion II. The king's heir was, after all, the son of Sarilla Morgan--the woman who cursed Nevermere to its dark and monstrous fate. Every sibling of Adder's was killed in an attempt to stop Julius, as well as their spouses. Despite this loss, the Morrigan family have gone above and beyond to show themselves as strong supporters of the current monarchy, not allowing the country’s history, nor their association with the fallen queen, to prevent them from flourishing. The Morrigans are a well known noble family in Nevermere, and the royal court is home to several Morrigan cousins. What is not so well known is that the actions of the Rainecourt is not forgotten, and Adder's every waking moment is spent plotting and planning the return of the true king to the throne. Only, he must first find the boy who was whisked away.
- The family practices a religion worshipping a feminine mother goddess and her consort. They see this goddess as the origin of Nevermere’s witches. They believe Sarilla was a saint/martyr who was called by the goddess to protect her people. They also believe that Sarilla is now at the side of the goddess and that their family has been chosen, led by the goddess to protect her people. The goddess as the source of feminine magic is revered, but always put in balance with male energy as a reflection of the natural balance of the world.
