The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.
New gifted family of Lorendale added to the Families of Importance, the Decarlos!
At the beginning of February 2022 the site will experience a 5 year time jump! The IC year will jump from 822 to 827! This gives us about 8 months to prepare our characters for that jump. We plan to host very intentional planning sessions to help everyone get their plots and characters ready for this! As of this moment, one thing you should all start considering is making sure the threads your characters are in are furthering your character's stories.

Tybalt Zane was a man who had lived through and seen a lot. A Lorendaler lived on average about 60 years. That meant he'd burned through about two thirds of his life at this point. Yet sometimes he felt as if he'd been around for twice that.
He'd been brought back from the brink of death twice, given the might of a Coheedsman and bracers, which he wore round his wrists that granted him the ability to fight even a gifted on an equal footing. He'd returned to Lorendale with a wife and a son. He had his family back. A few days later, he had become a traitor. The keeper of a secret he prayed he would take with him to the grave. He did what he could not to linger on that reality for too long.
Majorlaine was gone now. He'd done what needed to be done.
Unable to face the new world just yet, he'd decided to reach out to some of the old one he'd known. After the relieved reunions, Helena had told the captain of just what it was that Raine Eldouir had been willing to do for him. She'd failed of course but it was a risk greater than any Tybalt would ever have dared ask of her. He felt that he needed to thank her. That, and he was keen to get back to something of the existence that he had left here when he'd gone after Felicity.
So it was, that Raine had been summoned, at her next convenience to Tybalt's office. It wasn't urgent, just something for a little idle friendly chat and a chance to say thank you.

Raine had failed to find Tybalt. She'd flown the length of Coheed in a zigzag and hadn't seen him. Raine wanted to find him. The dragon, however, had no care if the man survived. But, of course, she didn't have complete control yet, so she had to appeal to the human within.
When the news came that Tybalt had returned and wanted to see her, she could only grin. Tybalt was okay, good. Now that was one less thing burdening Raine and keeping her fighting. Now to chip away at her further.
The dragon made her way to Tybalt's office, nonchalantly walking in without so much as a knock. She'd remained half shifted to she could fit inside, but she was not about to give up the amount of the physical form she had control of.
She gave a combination of a sneer and a smile when she saw him. He looked like hell. If only Raine could see him now, would she still look up to him as much as she did?

The captain would greet the woman with a smile. Raine hadn't changed all that much (at least not externally). It felt just like one extra piece of his life that was falling back into place.
He noted that there was some faint vibrations, almost like a buzzing coming from the bracers. He did what he could to ignore them. He still wasn't quite accustomed to them yet and so preferred to ignore them to the best of his ability. He assumed that they were just reacting to the presence of a gifted. After all, they were designed to fight them.
Tybalt took it to be the woman's sense of humor. He was quite used to abrasive people in his life. His mother was one such individual. He'd greeted him with sharp words rather than a soft hug and affection. So it was that he answered with an amused smile. "Last time I checked. Came close enough though. Please, take a seat if you want."
He would pause for a moment before getting to the heart of the issue. "My mother told me what you did. Thank you for trying to find us."

"Well, I admit I didn't expect you to survive," came the curt reply.
She feigned indifference at Tybalt's thanks, sticking a finger in her ear as if to scratch it. "Eh, I didn't do it for you. I didn't it to shut her up." Her being Raine, not Helena, but Tybalt likely didn't know that.

Tybalt's confusion was gradually migrating towards some form of confusion. Initially, he took her first response to be an admission that she'd thought that she was too late to rescue him but the tone was wrong. The smile would vanish, the man's frown deepening somewhat as he considered the gifted woman. The buzzing around his wrists became just a little more prevalent. "Yes... My mother can be... Insistant." Tybalt chose his words with all the caution of a man who knew just what it was that his mother was capable of doing to him if she caught even the faintest wind of him badmouthing her. "But then you knew that."

Tybalt felt himself tense up. The bracers around his forearms began to bubble. If one were to peer carefully, they might just have noticed growths, almost akin to tentacles beginning to climb less than an inch up his arm. He let the question of his mother's favor die for a moment. It seemed unimportant right now. "No. How about you clue me in, Raine. Hm?" He was readying himself subconsciously.

Tybalt wouldn't react externally. He stood there, plainly. The armor had already spread over his right hand. Taking a few breaths, he summoned his self-control, fighting against the armor's desire for blood and war. Instead, he eyed the woman carefully. If he shouted, members of the Royal Guard would come. They wouldn't be enough. Even with his current strength, he wasn't convinced he could have fought her. That was assuming that this was even Raine to begin with. "Okay..." He didn't argue with the statement. "So who are you then?"

Another grin. "I'm her better half. I'm the beast that dwells within her. The one currently making her look far better than she did when she was all fleshy like you. I don't yet have a name, perhaps you'd like to give me one? I'm sure Raine would love that."
Then she chuckled. "She's still here, you know, she just doesn't know about me. Prone to blackouts, that's what she's thinking. But I can hear her, I know her thoughts. Soon, however, she won't exist anymore. I just need to weaken her further."

Tybalt was confused. That much was true. He didn't quite know how to react to what Raine was saying. He believed her though. There was something within the armor which just seemed to tell him that he was maybe in some danger right now, that the woman he was with wasn't the one that he knew. "The dragon?" The captain spoke, guessing more than anything else.
He frowned upon hearing her words. If Raine was still in there though, he took that to mean that he might just be able to rescue the woman or at the very least draw her out. "You must want something, if you're scheming around like this. What is it? Control? Power? Destruction?"

She put a finger on her nose and said nothing more on the subject. "I have always been here, waiting for the right moment to make my move. When Raine's heart was broken, it weakened her spirit. I have been slowly chipping away at it, feeding that hopelessness so she would shrink away and hide within herself. She began to rely on me more and more, and my confidence only made her want to be me more often. She got shot with a poison arrow in the eye, you know. And it was all I needed to break free. I have no mercy. I have no regrets. By removing the collars, you only paved the way to my rise to power."
She leaned back once again, looking at her half claw nails. "I bet you want to see Raine, don't you?"

The man listened carefully to what the dragon said. He didn't know if it was true or not. It sounded like a disease, a bug just waiting to take hold of a body as soon as it became weakened.
Tybalt did whatever he could to remain level-headed, to not let any of these revelations get ahead of himself. He was quite certain that the dragon could have torn through the entirety of the castle and most of its occupants. Even if the other Eldouir chipped in to bring the beast down, the captain of the Royal Guard wasn't convinced that they would be able to do so before there was severe damage done and certainly not before many, many were killed. "Yes. I would quite like to talk to her."
Maybe if Raine came back, maybe then he might be able to speak with her and find some way to seal away the beast.

She chuckled once more, crossing her arms. "Be sure to tell her goodbye, as I will have complete control of this body soon."
With that, she fainted, collapsing to the floor in a heap. She'd remain still for several minutes, before seeming to wake up. She'd rub her eyes and look around, confusion on her features. "Now how the hell did I get here? I swear I went to sleep in my own bed." She huffed. "And that's why I had stopped sleeping the last time."
Once her gaze fell on Tybalt, she smiled, getting up to hug him, if he allowed. "I'm so glad you're okay. I was really worried when you didn't return before the end of Hiem. How did you get back? Were you a prisoner or did your plan work?" She had many questions.

As soon as Raine collapsed, Tybalt would rush over to her side. If she was still unconscious by the time that he reached her, the man would begin to pick her up, moving to place her into a chair if it was needed. For a few moments, the dragon's warning was forgotten about. He would wait anxiously, wondering if he might not be better off calling for help. What did he know about schizophrenic dragon gifted and the wars between their split personalities.
When she woke up, Tybalt wouldn't resist the hug, returning the gesture briefly. It was probably a good thing that Felicity Zane didn't see. He knew that she wouldn't appreciate such a show of affection, innocent though it might have been.
"The plan failed. I would be dead right now if it weren't for Cassian-" In familiar circles, the captain of the Royal Guard dropped all pretenses of rank and title. "-and his witches, I'd be dead and my wife..." He stopped himself, it was still a subject that he didn't want to dwell on for too long. "You came looking for me. Thank you."
