The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
"I can say the same for you Lady Prowze, but when I was a boy my Father told us boys that a true swordsman dances with his blade as if he were on the ballroom floor," he commented with a smile, "Some say that is silly, but look at me," he joked and then answers her question, "I do suppose I am, might even say this is a tad bit better than an evening alone with just my thoughts."
He was looking her in the eyes and had a soft smile on his face, Keir was perhaps secretly glad Norah had called out to him, after all she was a beautiful woman and he was a strapping young man who needed his Mother to see just enough to think this was potential courting. It would buy him a month or so, not that he was only doing this for the clout of course.
"Might I ask why a young lady such as yourself isn't married yet, I'd say a fair amount of men should have fallen on a blade for your hand," he ask earnestly.
Oh, she remembered those days out on the training fields well. While Norah was more known for her curse craftsmanship like her mother, her father had been a captain in the military for a very long time. He had served the military well and made sure his children were not incompetent either when it came to using a weapon. And while Norah chose that weapon of words lately, she could still swing a sword if you put one in her hands. "An evening alone with your thoughts sounds a bit more complicated than dancing with a Prowze." She teased.
Yet his next question had her laughing softly under her breath. "Ah, perhaps its because normally, men are too afraid of a witch like me." She flashed a wicked grin as they moved through a spin in the dance. She certainly wasn't some blushing. shy noblewoman that hid behind her fan and just hoped her feminine charm would get her far. "They don't quite know how to handle a powerful woman." She tightened her grip just a touch on him before she turned that question on him. "And what of you? Surely you don't have a shortage of ladies vying for your attention, Lord Delaney?"

She was an equally skilled dancer as they both seemed to just glide as a pair who had made dancing their art. Keir was a hard person to get out of his shell much harder to get him to stop working but he was having fun, he could almost feel a smile breaking across his face again but the dark and curly haired Delaney had returned his focus to the dancing conversation. Perfectionism.
"Far to busy with duties to marry, trying to get my Mother to understand I can't be a dutiful husband or Father while being a dutiful soldier. Not me, wouldn't be fair," he spun Norah once more out and without trying brought her back a little closer than before...just a small hint of something fragrant...it was a alluring smell....pretty...came off her which made him hold her there a little longer than he should. It was intoxicating and Keir liked it.
He broke suddenly when someone stepped on his toe, he had totally stopped causing a bit of a blockage, Keir promptly readjusted into the proper hold. Continuing quickly, "Sorry about that, I couldn't remember if I had signed out properly for my shift," he damn well knew he had, "Anyways...if I can't find a hand to marry by the end of next season Mother said it'll be an arranged marriage," his body shuddered at the thought, "So, maybe this little dance will buy me some time," he joked, "But you're right, dancing with a Prowze woman is fat less complicated than Keir'ing it up...as the twins say..."
Norah had to admit, she liked dancing with this Delaney. He clearly had paid attention growing up. And by the sounds of what he told her about not being married, the man was a perfectionist. That sounded awfully familiar to her. She had been raised to be just that. The perfect cursemaker, the dutiful daughter, the poised and witty witch. But there difference between her and Keir? Norah had finally learned to live for herself. “I think you look at this wrong then,” her tone was light and teasing. As he spun her out, she came back to him closer than before. Lingering because, well, he didn’t push her back and he certainly had a nice face to admire up close.
“Wouldnt that just be the next best challenge? Balancing a wife, relaxing,” she squeezed his arm a touch before his hand moved back to its proper place. “Being the best Delaney out there. We all know the best soldiers are Delaney’s as it is.” she laughed just a touch.
She almost tossed her head back and laughed. She was the distraction. Wasn’t that exactly what another Delaney had just done at another party? Grant had told her to be careful to not talk to his mother but was glad to be seen with her because… it looked like he was trying. Apparently she was a good pawn for that. She couldn’t blame them. She had a pleasant face, she came from a good name, and she was not some shy woman in the shadows. She could make a lot of men look good. “Yes, well, I am glad to assist in holding off mother’s and keeping you from… Keir-ing it up? Though a part of me would love to know and see this phenomenon.” she gracefully turned in his arms with the others. Her hand gently grazing his cheek with a sly smile before she was back into her appropriate place.

The wheels were turning in Keir's head, what miss Prowze had said made a load of sense because the young Delaney hadn't ever thought about marriage setting him a part from his siblings and cousins all pretty hell bent on playing the field. While Keir had fought to keep a highly decorated military career that we thin a part from siblings and cousins they were all doing the exact same thing. His thoughts were cut short with the stroke of his cheek, he felt a little heat touch at the collar of his uniform.
"That makes for a compelling argument lady Prowze," he finally answered pushing the 'Keir'ing up' down, "Would you mind a date, with me? I won't be to intimidated of a fine young witch to get to know you..."
She wasn't surprised to hear him admit that she had a point. Of course she did, she knew that, that's why she had said it to him. She almost shrugged just a little with her shoulder until he asked his question. Her steps in the dance almost hesitated, though really only Keir would know that they had faltered under her by her having to make quick steps to fall back into line with him. She had made it that compelling that he actually was asking her for a date? She stared at him for a moment, catching herself back into step with him before their dance came to an end.
Her hands still rested on him as their steps slowed and she couldn't help herself. "You want to call on me? And not just for show?" She asked him, to make sure she heard him correctly. Her dark gaze locked onto his.

"Aye, I do," he answered confidently and without hesitation but the dance was over too, he stood there with her but let go, "I can make a fine meal too, I'm the cook Delaney," he said with a smile, secretly hoping she accepts.
Her eyes searched him for a moment. For any sign that he was just joking with her or that he really didn’t mean it. But he seemed sincere. “The cook Delaney huh?” she ask with a smile. “I can’t miss out on a home cooked meal from Keir Delaney.” Norah stated, accepting his invitation.

"Then it is a date Lady Prowze," Keir gave a bow and smile, "I look forward to it..."
Keir with a bit more of a step in his step decided to end their absolutely positive conversation and time together by stepping to the side and allowing Norah to make exit as the party was soon to be over, "Thank you for keeping me from leaving...."
There was a small smile as she dipped into a curtsy to say her goodbyes. "And thank you for not running." She teased before she wondered off, ready to head home with a strangely optimistic idea of a dinner that was prepared by not staff, but of a nobleman himself. What an interesting idea...
