The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.
New gifted family of Lorendale added to the Families of Importance, the Decarlos!
At the beginning of February 2022 the site will experience a 5 year time jump! The IC year will jump from 822 to 827! This gives us about 8 months to prepare our characters for that jump. We plan to host very intentional planning sessions to help everyone get their plots and characters ready for this! As of this moment, one thing you should all start considering is making sure the threads your characters are in are furthering your character's stories.
The regent of Lorendale was on the move. Politics were changing, and soon all would hear of it. But first, the actual conversations needed to happen.
Count Hugh Wyndham had been summoned to the King of Nevermere's office. He would likely assume it had something to do with the previous matter they had discussed, but he was incorrect. Cassian had an entirely different affair to bring to the man. Had he been unable to set his personal preferences aside, he never would have arranged his meeting. As it was, Cassian knew how to put a kingdom before everything. That's what this was about.
"I'd like to put you on the royal court." They'd worked through the expected greetings and now Cassian was jumping to the point. He had places to be and business to handle. This wasn't a social event. "You've been serving as the Palace Steward for some time, which leads me to believe you have the necessary skills to become the Lord Steward. I'm removing the Duchess from the post following your acceptance." Cassian's hands were folded on the desk before him, his eyes fixed on Hugh. This clearly wasn't a favor to the man himself nor his family. It was the choice that made sense.

Hugh had definitely thought that this meeting was about what he had last spoken to Cassian about. He had already made sure the official documentation from the doctor had already been delivered so he had everything he could need. In spite of their sordid past Hugh was skilled enough not to let that effect his behavior towards the man beyond basically just avoiding contact with him as much as possible.
Still, the last thing he expected was for the King/Regent to actually give him a...promotion? He did not hide the initial surprise on his face very well but he did eventually recover. He didn't know the reason why Cassian wanted to remove Adelaide from her position and part of him feared possible push back or angry...or angry sex...nope, he shouldn't be thinking about that. In the end, Hugh would be an idiot not to accept this opportunity, to actually have a position on the royal court. Pride swelled in his chest. His family would be so proud to have pushed himself up the ranks so much.
His shock turned to into a smile and he gave the King a grateful nod. "Wow, I- I honestly didn't expect this but yes, yes, absolutely. Thank you for this opportunity, Your Majesty. I won't let you down."

Cassian nodded, fully expecting this response from Hugh. He would have been a fool to reject it. His family needed this. He needed this. Cassian wasn't entirely excited about the idea of having to have royal court meetings with him present, knowing his filthy little lips had dared to grace his sister's face, but he would put aside personal distaste for the sake of the kingdom. There was no denying that Hugh would make a good Lord Steward.
They would exchange very brief pleasantries, something to the affect of 'Looking forward to seeing you work' and probably the proper head nods and bows and all that jazz, and then Hugh would continue on his way and Cassian would move to the next task.
