The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Somehow, Kasper and the rest of the Van Zant clan had managed to pull it off. It turns out the Van Zants were a very scrappy and resourceful bunch who knew the slums of Skia like the back of their hand. It didn’t take much arm twisting or intimidation to get Graham’s workers to realize that being class traitors wasn’t going to serve them well in the long run. Faster than Ravin had expected, Graham relented. Ravin had helped supplement the tenants so that they could buy the buildings outright, and just like that - a landlord down.
Only hundreds more to go.
Ravin owed the eldest Van Zant a debt of gratitude. More than that, he owed him some cold hard coin and another job as promised. Ravin had called him over for a drink. The nighttime antics of the Midnight House were in full swing - the atmosphere full of celebration. He’d wait at the front for Kasper, chatting amiably with Poppy.

Kasper had rescued Lorendale, the clan wore down Graham like a granite counter top (like they did with most people), he'd made connections with another source that just wanted information, and now he was going to be congratulated by Lord of the Streets Ravin Tracey.
Upon his entrance it was clear he had the biggest head in the room and a new swagger in his step, plus a collection of flora for Tulip. When his eyes landed upon his boss he flashed a big grin, "We did it Ravy!"

Kasper was so charmless that he circled back around into being charming again. Ravin did his best to suppress his laughter as Kasper strode in with all the pomp of a king - or, considering the flowers in his hand, a prince charming ready to sweep a damsel off her feet. And Ravin thought he could guess just which one of his damsels that would be.
Ravin rolled his eyes at the nickname, a goodnatured smile plastered across his face. “You did it, Mister Van Zant. I’d make a liar of myself if I accepted any of the credit.” He extended his hand for Kasper to shake, before calling out, “Tulip, my dove.” Tulip, giggling at the attentions of a young gentleman on the other side of the lounge, would come trotting over, eyeing Kasper curiously. Ravin would give Kasper a moment to say whatever he wanted, before telling Tulip, “Mister Van Zant and I have some business to discuss in my office. Come by a little later, with something to munch on, won’t you darling?” Tulip would giggle, nodding before Ravin would usher Kasper to follow him to his office.

Kasper went glazed eyes, slack jawed, and a goofy smile on his face when Tulip came over but after a few seconds of thinking about what to say he just handed her the bouquet of flowers. Stunned perhaps into silence by her radiant and captivating beauty, his heart told him that his brain couldn't find the right words to describe to Kasper what his eyes saw from that woman let alone to tell him what to say, but Kasper told his heart to tell his brain it helps if he didn't end up looking like a dope.

Tulip was a little perplexed at first, perhaps not quite understanding why Kasper had gone silent, but on seeing the flowers her giggles started anew. “Well aren’t you just the sweetest little thing,” Tulip leaned in a kissed his cheek before sticking her face in the flowers and giving them a big sniff. “Aren’t they purdy Master Ravin?” Ravin just smiled, looking at Kasper as if to say ‘you’re welcome.’
Ravin started off for his office, Kasper in tow, holding the door open and directing him inside. There was a roaring fire in the fireplace with a couple of plush-looking chairs in front of it. Ravin gestured for Kasper to sit, going over to the drinks cart and asking, “Are you a whiskey man, Mister Van Zant?”

The wonder list filled boy waived bye to Tulip, his only gesture since shoving the flowers toward her. However he followed Ravin once again falling into his sure of himself gait. Kasper entered the office and his face kept saying, 'Ooooh this is nice! Ooh damn nice!'
The young Van Zant took a seat beside the fire adjusting himself to look like a comfortable gentleman, one leg crossed over the other tapping the air with his dangling foot. At the question of his favorite poison Kasper grinned, "I am whatever you are boss! That's how I work."

Ravin chuckled, pouring both Kasper and himself a generous portion of fine whiskey. Smile sparkling, he went back to the fire, handing the glass to Kasper and sitting in the seat across from him.
“So, Mister Van Zant,” Ravin took a sip of whiskey, savoring the taste of the liquor on his tongue, “How’s the rest of the Van Zant clan? I must say, Mina is a delightful young woman. We are very grateful to have her as part of our little family.”

Kasper was copying Ravin as incognito as he could sipping his own whiskey versus just downing it as he would alone, 'shots! shots! shots!', "They are good, I've been able to stock our pantry for the first time since I was a kid and the youngest are receiving some tutoring. They want to be like me," Kasper beamed before pressing on with the conversation, "As for Mina, she's a treasure and I'm glad she's working for you now Ravin. Which brings up something else, I know she's safe here but as something my Father told me before he was caved in and trapped in a mine I always gotta look out for her... I want to help do security on the days she works...I'll do it for free because she's my sister and it's my duty. I'm a decorative soldier now, with the situation in Lorendale, yup I was there."

Ravin smiled, eyes sparkling as the Van Zant described their newfound fortunes. Though Kasper had more than earned his reward, Ravin still remained a benefactor at heart. There was nothing more heartbreaking than the state of Nevermere’s poor, and any way he could help alleviate suffering where it existed, he at least wanted to try.
“As they should. You’re providing for your family, Mister Van Zant, and that’s more than a lot of men can say for themselves.” Ravin sipped his whiskey, looking at Kasper with a kind of fascinated delight. He approached his next request gently.
“Very impressive,” Ravin said, still smiling but becoming a touch more serious, “I’m sure you’d be quite an asset, but I’m afraid I have very strict guidelines about staffing. Divine’s husband has worked security for us for years, but I never allow them to be on the floor at the same time. I need cool heads, Mister Van Zant. And when it comes to family, our protective instincts sometimes make us a little…trigger happy.” Ravin smiled softly, taking another sip of his whiskey, “But just as I trust you, I hope you can trust me to keep little Mina safe. If there is one thing I take pride in, Mister Van Zant, it is that the health and safety of my doves come first - always.” Ravin considered the matter closed, but would hear anything else Kasper had to say before moving on. “Besides…” Ravin’s smile brightened again, “I’ll hope you’ll be far to busy for such things - as I have another job for you.”

Kasper understood what Ravin meant, he would definitely grow quick to anger if someone tried something to far with Mina. She was his rock and kept him grounded, needed her more than he let on or that he would tell her in fear of her having the big head about it.
"I understand and I trust you," he really did more than Ravin thought, "But another job? Hell yes! What's the mission?" Kasper sat at the edge of his chair downing his glass of whiskey.

Ravin grinned, taking another drink before standing up and heading towards his desk. “There’s something I need you to find for me,” Ravin took a framed picture down from the wall, carrying it in one hand and the bottle of whiskey in the other. He put the whiskey bottle down on the table, indicating that Kasper was free to pour himself another glass.
“I need you to find this,” Ravin lay the framed painting on the table with a flourish. It was the Wendigo painting, or the recreation of it that Norah had given him before she left for Lorendale. Even though it wasn’t the true article, it still had an otherworldly feel to it.
“This is a replica of the painting in question. While this one holds sentimental value, the other one is far more valuable than everything I have and more. Not in terms of coin, but in terms of power. It belongs to a dear friend of mine, but was taken from her family long ago,” Ravin leaned back in his chair, finishing the last of his whiskey, “And I need you to help me get it back.”

Kasper sat his empty glass down and put his focus on the painting which he thought was pretty cool! But he wasn't a art guy, when it came to art or homemade crafts he valued their weight in coin over the skill involved with their creation.
At Ravin's mention of needing Kasper to help him get it back lit his face up like a dog with a new bone six sizes to big.
"I am so fucking in, you have my axe! Where is this thing at? And you mean you and me? The dynamic duo? Am I going to get to see you in action Ravy?"

Ravin chuckled, whisking the painting away as he worried that Kasper might get over-excited and spill whiskey all over it. “You and me, Mister Van Zant. And,” Ravin turned, quirking an eyebrow with a smirk, “I hear you have a twin that might be useful in a pinch as well.”

"Ah yes my co-pilot, Katerina Winters, she's a bit like me minus I guess my good looks and slight temper," Kasper joked as he sat back in his chair arms behind his head, "I figure she'd be down for the job, are you wanting to include her? It'd help, she's a pretty talented fighter and a decent witch. We could use the power, but what's the plan? For her safety..."

Ravin nodded, smirking. “Yes, I’ve gathered as much. We’ve actually had the pleasure of meeting, and I found her very,” Ravin furrowed his brow, choosing his next word carefully, “intense. Which is exactly what we need for this kind of job.”
Sitting back down, Ravin took a sip of his drink before leaning forward, face set and serious. “I used to be something of a fixture among the art collectors of Skia. A broker, you could say. Though those days are far behind me, I managed to pull a few strings to find out where the painting - the real painting - is being held.” Ravin took another sip of his whiskey.
“It is in the possession of a collector named Cornelia Deinhart. I say collector; really the woman is more of a hoarder. She protects her hoard well, however, and our job is going to be like finding a needle in a very well-guarded, underground haystack. One might say it’s impossible, but it is that very fact that works in our favor.”
“Cornelia has gotten old and sloppy. She’s passed on most of her business affairs to her only son, Izaius, who doesn’t have the same…sharpness of mind that his mother once had,” Ravin swirled his drink, eyes narrowing as he watched Kasper. “Izaius is our in. He and I have something of a…history. A history that would make him very eager to indulge me and my associates with a tour of his mother’s collection.” Ravin sipped, “When I steal him away for a more…private part of the tour, I’ll let you and Katerina get to work. I want the painting lifted without them even knowing it is gone. As for my…methods…” Ravin’s eyes remained narrow, as close to formidable as they were capable of becoming. “I trust you’ll keep those particular details to yourself.”
In Nevermere, disdain for ‘non-traditional’ relationships was still very much at a high. He hoped Kasper was not one to judge, and if he wasn’t, hoped he also had the common sense to keep such a fact about Ravin to himself.
