The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
After the news from her uncle and the meeting with the family, Calanthe hadn't been sleeping all that well. Mostly because she didn't give herself the time for it. Between studying, working with the ambassador, feeding information to Evander and getting some lessons in return, as well as keeping up her sword skills? Calanthe was starting to see why all these adults were focusing on one thing, especially when it came to enchanting. But that wasn't stopping her from trying, there was far too much at stake in her young mind.
Today she didn't have anything slated with the ambassador, and all her lessons were done for the day. So she was heading home with plans to change and maybe do some training. Of course as soon as she made it home everything hit her like a pound of bricks all over again. She was trying to do everything, and part of that was because she didn't want to be in the empty house. And it wasn't like Cyrus was there all the time usually, but to walk home with hope everyday and find it empty? It was slightly crushing.
So she pulled out her notes instead, sitting outside in the nice Aestas weather to think about the next enchantment she would craft.
Calliope wasn't quite sure who in the family, of the family that was in the know, had stepped in to help. But she'd learned rather quickly that assuming someone would do something didn't mean that it was actually being done. That it was falling to her, it was damn weird. She was the least gentle one of her siblings, if any of them could even be called that, but she was pretty sure that Keion would be much better at this than she would be. But he was busy and Evander was busy and Uncle Dio was Uncle Dio.
She was close to Cyrus's home, looking for her niece to see just how her and her brother were doing. Seeing the young woman, cause she certainly wasn't a teenager anymore, outside and quiet tugged at her gut. Calliope let her steps be heard as she approached @calanthe, offering a slightly awkward wave.
How the hell was she supposed to comfort her niece when she had trouble comforting just one of her brothers?
Calanthe didn't notice her aunt right away. She was wrapped up safely in her thoughts, away from any feelings or the fact that she was sitting outside of her rather comfortable house in the Aestas heat. No she had things to do, notes to write up, ideas to come up with for the next time she met with her uncle. She wouldn't be unprepared, she was learning, but she wanted to impress.
But eventually the steps made her turn her head sharply, smiling as she saw Calliope. "Auntie Calli!" The smile on her face wasn't forced, she truly loved seeing her aunt, despite the fact that she looked like the man who was missing. They were siblings so it made sense, but she couldn't quite bring herself to spring up to hug her favorite aunt.
This was one of the few situations where Calliope's go to method of dealing with problems that hurt her loved ones wouldn't actually help. There was no specific person she could go after and have a talk with them about talking behind her brothers' backs or use a spar as a method of the occasional intimidation to make someone back off. There was no single person, that they knew of so far, that was responsible for Cyrus's disappearance. And it was like a repeated punch to the gut that she had no idea how to help with it.
"Hey there Calla-lily." She lowered herself to sit on the ground next to her niece, gently knocking her shoulder against hers. "What're you working on?"
Calanthe knew that her aunt must have also been feeling the gap of her father missing, but that didn't mean she knew what to say about it. She preferred not to think about it herself as was apparent from sitting outside her house and working. The gap was also driving her forward though, propelling her into anything and everything that she could. "Mhmm enchanting of course."
She thought about mentioning the lessons from her uncle but decided not to, leaning her head up against her aunt's shoulder. "I wish I could snap my fingers and just know where he was. That would be a nifty enchantment."
There was a snag in her chest as she looked down at her niece, reaching up to run her fingers through the ends of Calanthe's hair in a way she had faint memories of her own mother doing when she was a little girl. Calliope wasn't the gentle one of her siblings but she sure as hell was going to do her best for Calanthe.
"It would be, wouldn't it. Then we could rain down the whole Blackwood family on them to bring him home."
Calanthe closed her eyes as her aunt's fingers ran through the end of her hair. It was nice, calming, although still a little sad. Because Calli was usually the rough and tough one, and now Cyrus was missing and all her aunts and uncles seemed to be trying to fill the void.
"Of course we would, Blackwood strong." Leaning off her aunt's shoulder she looked at her with a more assured smile. "Speaking of strong, maybe you could tell me more about Cambria?" Giving her aunt the most hopeful eyes she could come up with, Calanthe was probably a little too curious for her own good.
Calliope couldn't help the fond grin as shed looked down at her niece. "So, you want to know more about Cambria, hm? And why do you think that I would know so much about that country?" She raised an eyebrow but it wasn't mistrustful or suspicious. More teasing, than anything. A little pride, given that she'd only talked about her visits there more with @keion.
"Come on please! You know I love learning about literally everything!" Calanthe was far too curious for her own good at times, but that was something she thought was important while learning. It had ended well for her so far, and so she would continue to do so. "I know their women are fearsome as you are on the battlefield!" That was incredibly bad ass as far as she was concerned. And without the amazing Arynn Frey enchantments as well.
That brought out a very amused laugh out of her and she gave a light tug to the end of Calathe's hair. "Alright, alright. I suppose I can tell you a little bit about what I know." Calliope grinned at her niece. "If you can ask the right questions."
Calanthe clapped her hands together in excitement and turned around to face her aunt. Considering what she wanted to ask would take a minute of course. The question needed to be just right, because otherwise it was pointless and she didn't want to waste her or her aunts time.
"Have you met their priestess? And are horses really such an important thing to them?" Two questions, oh well, she was just a touch excited.
Her grin turned a bit sly, because she had definitely met the High Priestess more than once. And not always for business either. "I have. And she is certainly strong. Watched her climb a sheer rock wall with just her arm strength alone." And it was definitely hot, but that was not a thought that her niece needed to hear.
As for the horses... "So most of my visits were more... indoors, but yes. Their horses are important to them, from what I can tell."
"Wow that's crazy! Just arms alone?" It was baffling how strong the women of Cambria was. Incredibly interesting though, something that needed more investigation. Of course that meant she would actually need to have time, and honestly there were a bit too many things piled up already.
Still she pouted a little at the mention of only being indoors most of the time. "But it's so beautiful there, why would you stay inside the whole time?"
