The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
While usually Calanthe preferred to study alone and in a quite place deep in the Library of Elysium, that wasn’t entirely possible today. She had seen a grimoire that interested her being returned and instantly made her way over to get her hands on it. Unfortunately it was on hold by someone, but that didn’t stop her from pleading her case, loudly at that. Eventually the woman relented that she could pour through it while the slave went to notify whoever had it on hold. So she took it, sitting down at the nearest table and beginning to leaf through it right away.
It was a shrine enchantment specific one, mainly focused on weapon enhancements. She was getting plenty of instruction from her uncle, but that was very specific and she wanted to keep herself rounded. With her busy schedule there wasn’t a lot of time she could dedicate to general learning and she was going to use every second of it. Especially with an upcoming trip to Nevermere with the ambassador looming later that week. Figuring the woman would alert her when she had to return it she payed little attention to anything else.

The Crowned Prince and his guard were on the way to the Library of Elysium, Akagi had his usual cool and calm demeanor hands clasped behind his back and a warm smile on his face. He shook hands with his people and had a few passing conversations. He wore a emerald green suit with gold trim, his small bag of holding was of course slung over his shoulder full of the usual day to day enchantments and scrolls and grimores.
Upon their journey a passing slave gave Akagi the message about a book being held at his request and that someone was currently in dire need of it so the librarian had allowed this person to skim it until he was notified. With a gracious smile Akagi dismissed the slave and continued on to the Library. Entering the Library Akagi headed to the desk where he returned his previously checked out books and asked about the curious party that was using the reserved grimore. The librarian of course pointed out the young woman sitting at a table, again he gracious departure was given as Akagi instructed his guard to remain at the desk as he walked over to the woman.
"Excuse me miss," he whispered as he pulled a seat up next to her placing his feet on the seat in typical Akagi fashion and squatted beside her, "Call me curious, but what is it that you are working on?"
Calanthe was deep in focus by the time the Crowned Prince made his way to the library. She didn’t have time to look up, and it’s not like a hush fell over the place. It was a focused and quiet library so it just stayed quiet like usual. She was writing some short hands notes as she went, getting through with the little time she knew she had. Flipping through page after page she didn’t look up as someone sat next to her, or the odd nature of his sitting.
”Shh. Trying to work here.” She kept working as she spoke, eyes not leaving the pages of the book. ”I only have so much time, so no offense, but can’t talk now, I’m sure you’re a nice guy or whatever.” Flipping a page she continued, turning her notes page over to start some more.

Akagi couldn't help but smile, he admired a focused scholar and enchanted, so he folded his arms on the back of the chair rest watching her, "I do hope I come off as a good guy, I have worked awefully hard to be," he rambled on, "You take your time, I'm on the reserve list for this book and I would hate to be the reason someone missed an opportunity at a enchanting breakthrough."
Calanthe was mid-page flip when he mentioned he was the one who had a hold on the grimoire. Yet he didn't want it right away and was going to give her a chance to continue gaining the knowledge. Despite clearly wanting it himself, so she decided the least she could do was offer the man a smile and thanks.
Looking up made her cheeks flush slightly though, and she bowed her head again. "Many apologies Prince Llwellyn, if I had realized I never would have been so presumptuous. Well maybe I would have, this is fascinating stuff." Her finger held where she was on the page, her eyes skimming across the page while half-focusing on the conversation. She couldn't help it despite wanting to have good manners.

The prince held his hands up waving off her apologies and chuckling, "You have nothing to apologize for dear, nothing at all," Akagi waved the sorries away with a jovial chuckle, "Please continue, I'm afraid I don't know your name?"
He held a finger up as he studied her face, she looked very familiar especially the eyes and the hair when it clicked, "Calanthe? @cyrus daughter? My goodness you've grown!"
Calanthe's eyes continued to flick over the pages and she was about to supply her name when her eye caught the finger. She honestly didn't expect the Crowned Prince to know, so she kept going, waiting to need to interject.
But all of a sudden her world fell out from under her all over again. Her finger skipped off the page, a rushed breath leaving as she tried to keep herself composed and poised in the middle of the library. "Ah, yes, that's me. I shot up about six years ago, taking after the rest of the family." Tucking some hair behind her ear the focus was gone.
Her eyes moved away from the grimoire and to the prince. "Do you mind if I ask why you have this on hold?" Because that had to be interesting.

Akagi knew a great deal, or what he felt was a great deal, about the Blackwood family because after all the prince was close to Cyrus a protege of sorts he felt. He saw the focus leave the young woman's face when he brought up her Father a same distant pang hit Akagi as the two hadn't talked or seen each other in quite sometime, he was close to his Mother but Cyrus he definitely felt closer with.
However Akagi had carried on the conversation and replied to the question asked about his interest in the grimore, "If you have the time," the way the prince moved from his squatted position in the chair was graceful and trained like a Peacekeeper and a Prince all meshed together, as Cyrus had instilled in him, the chair turned on one leg to a normal position to which the prince sank into the seat like a normal adult quickly sinking into the small bag on his side.
To them, to others the bag looked small and like it couldn't any possibly way carry all of what Akagi seemed to have to rummage through, "Ah here it is," pulling a scroll from the bag he laid it down upon the table, "I don't know where this will fit in, defense or offense, but it will set the bar for protection within or outside our walls," the blue print was of a humanoid shaped creature, it detailed that it would be made from stone, at full height it stood at over twelve feet tall, "Imagine a force that didn't require rest, food, water. A force of these Stone soldiers...it's just an idea for now but I believe this will be my next project."
Calanthe had always seen Akagi as the hot older brother of one of the coolest princesses ever. Well more than that, extremely badass, so the fact that he knew her name normally would have made her happy. But he'd brought up her father, and so she was only focused on not thinking about that. Which was like not thinking about an elephant when someone said to not think about elephants.
"I've got the time." Even if she didn't she would have said the same thing. But luckily it was the truth, at least for the next two hours. After that she was on her uncle's time, which would be a totally different story. So she was going to focus up and learn the most she could in the mean time.
Looking at the plans eagerly, her knowledge-hungry eyes roved over the pages. So many thoughts entered her head, but she waited until he was done explaining to even think about starting. Taking an extra minute to look over everything she started to nod her head. "They could have listening devices and a way to see what they see too yes? Easy to add last minute too." Pointing to the best spots she continued on. "Maybe a few can even be enchanted with magic warding?"

It seemed the two brains were working very similar, Akagi wore a proud smile on his face as he suddenly found himself building off of her idea, "Oh! Oh, that's brilliant and we could even," he removed his bag of holding and laid it on the table thay Akagi just claimed as a work table, "We could bypass having to give this enchantment sentient like thought this creature would need," Akagi was rummaging once again removing item after item until he found his sketch kit and a new sheet of paper which he laid against his current design, "What if we link this creature to a Peacekeeper from inside the very palace? Full control."
The Prince began to sketch out the new development right there, he started with a Peacekeeper inside what looked like a warding circle, the uniform on the sketched Peacekeeper seemed to be lined with attachments that he drew lines to descriptions of the attachments: one was detailing the listening device, another was a visor of sorts lined with soul gems that gave the user the ability to see what the stone soldier would see, and other various lines of things meant to give the user control.
What Akagi hadn't noticed was how much excitement was shown on his face as he worked, it had been rare lately for him to have another mind like his sharing in his passion of enchanting. When he looked at her she would see the smile and how his eyes were hungry for more. It seemed the Blackwoods had passed on their genius and oddly Akagi felt that was extremely attractive, not that she wasn't absolutely beautiful of course but how her mind seemed to work was...
...he was blushing. His eyes darted back to their work in progress, "...those were great ideas Misses Calanthe, if your own project doesn't keep you busy perhaps you'd like to work with me?"
This was Calanthe’s favorite part of enchanting. She enjoyed working with others to come to an even better conclusion than she ever could have alone. Than either could have alone, because despite her near novice abilities compared to others the young Blackwood had plans. Plans and overflowing ideas that sometimes she couldn’t even keep up with. She was learning to focus some of her ideas better, but this brainstorm was fascinating.
Looking at the plans, she nodded her head in thought. ”Maybe dual gloves and boots? For more connected control? And maybe only a few like this yes? So you have a mix?” Looking up at Akagi with eager eyes she was so glad that she’d decided to use this book while she waited. This was far more interesting than studying the texts. Learning by doing was always the better option in her opinion.
”Really?!” Her excitement was obvious a smile spreading across her face. ”I’d love to, it would be a privilege.” She probably had too many things on her plate, but a joint project with a far more talented enchanter was amazing. Especially since it was Prince Akagi.

Akagi matched her enthusiasm and happiness with his smile and the way he rocked back in his chair to look at her through happy eyes, "Absolutely! Arynnite history speaks for itself, some powerful and life improving enchantments were born from joint enchantments," the Prince went back to his sketch, "So tell me, what projects does that brain of yours currently have?... if you don't mind my prying," he asked humbly.
Looking over at Akagi she noticed the excitement matched in his eyes. It looked good on him, although she blushed as the thought crossed her mind. Focusing on the enchanting instead she nodded her head, joint enchantments sounding more and more interesting as they worked together. Just in one brainstorming session the original idea had changed so much, absolutely fascinating for someone still learning her way in enchanting.
”Its not nearly as well thought out…” Pulling a piece of parchment out she passed over the rudimentary sketch. ”It’s early stages hence the reading, but a crossbow with arrows imbued with electricity of lightning...” She was still working on the logistics, but she had been trying to keep up with other things besides what her uncle was teaching.

Akagi instantly connected to her idea, "Oh! Would you like to follow me to my workshop? I have something that could perhaps inspire you," the Prince was already collecting his things, "We have like an hour still before you need to go, if you want of course, no pressure that I'm the prince either!"
Calanthe's eyes widened with excitement, her head nodding eagerly, although she realized how ridiculous she must have looked a slight blush creeping into her cheeks. Taking a breath her smiled remained. "I'd love to, thank you Prince Akagi." She picked up the book before realizing it was his, passing it over. "Would say you've given me a lot more than just a little extra time with this." She'd get her hands back on it, she was sure of it.
