The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
It had been several days since she had left. While Myla had left before, it was normally only a day or two at most. But Myla had heard the Dresmondi who roamed the lands tell tales of a Lorendale army on the border. No army really, not like what Myla knew she could handle.
The tight ball of energy was handed off to a few ice Dresmondi who trapped them within. She would leave Eirwen & Yule in charge of them as she made her way back towards the family home. Immediately calling for a warm bath to be run for her when she entered and making her way for her room. Quick to untangle her hair and strip down when she entered her room. Making her way directly for the hot water and sinking into it.

Oh, no. There would be no getting home and telling a servant to do anything for Myla. No bath drawn. In fact, she wouldn't make it to her room. Those she passed and tried to order would not look at her. They shook with fear, yes, because she was a terrifying woman, but the Eldouir obeyed the head, and Hiram had given explicit instructions: Myla was in trouble.
Any other year or month, even, and he would not have noticed. Since his run in with the Allemeades, however, he had been spending more time at the Eldouir Estate than he had ever. So he was around. He noticed Myla wasn't. No one seemed to be able to account for where she had gone and what she was doing. She very well could have been off on some loyal task for the good of the Eldouirs. Hiram doubted it. She was a child throwing a tantrum, and he had a very good feeling he knew what she was out doing.
Hiram was in the throne room. It was actually their mess hall but with a platform and two thrones, one for Elena and one for Myla. There were no tables and chairs in there currently, just the thrones and Hiram. He sat on the edge of the platform, arms crossed over his chest, waiting. He'd been waiting for Myla for some time. Never had the man been so patient.
If Myla didn't figure out where Hiram was, a scared servant would surely point her in the right direction.

When no one listened, she found herself stilling in the hall. Staring off after a trembling nameless who was scurrying away. Those bright eyes staring down the hall with a faint, almost in disbelief smile on her face. At first, she said nothing. Then a small laugh left her. Another one. Until she was a giggling mess in the middle of the hallway. Her side in stitches as she realized that in her absence, in her getting a tribute for Hiram that was now carefully guarded within ice... he had stripped her.
No longer Queen Myla. Or so it would seem. Something in that moment snapped in her mind. Another wave of manic laughing filled the hall as she turned and watched everyone scatter. Red heads... dresmondi... nameless... they all ran for they had never heard such a noise from the woman. Sobs echoed for those who couldn't move fast enough as Myla suddenly pivoted and turned. "Where is he." she demanded, and all she got at first was a trembling body bowing before her.
It wasn't what she wanted. With a quick movement, that humming in her hands flared and slammed the sobbing blob of a person into the wall. She moved forward and with fake, wide caring eyes, she asked in a soft voice. "Where. Is. He." There was only one he she ever asked for. Wide grey eyes flickered towards the throne room. Or meal hall. Depending on what was happening. The body fell in a heap as she turned away and moved down the hall and toward the very place where Hiram rested.
Her heart beat was even, yet the soft look of amusement never failed to fall away from her face as she turned into the room and caught him sitting on the stairs. Her steps almost echoed off the walls, making her audibly announced into the room. "You were looking for me?" She said almost nonchalantly.

Hiram knew the moment Myla returned. He teleported using blood, and ever since developing the skill he was virtually aware of every pocket of blood throughout Terra Nova. Not at all times, of course, but with a little bit of focus he could single out strange occurrences, specifically large gatherings of people and blood loss. He felt the way a mass of blood moved supernaturally across the Dresmondi land. Only Myla and Elena had the power to do something of that nature, and Elena had been naked in his bed when he'd sensed it. Upon drawing nearer, he'd discerned the mass to be dozens of people, and then he'd tracked the form of one particular individual, with the blood amount of a woman, to enter into the estate. So, no,
"I wasn't." Hiram said simply. He didn't need to look. He'd been feeling her all along. If she drew closer she would notice the white around his irises was actually red, as if the vessel in his eyes had broken. Perhaps, in his far-reaching senses, they had. As his gaze fixed on her, however, the blood would begin to recede, returning the space to white.

His answer was simple. And while he didn't look up she had stepped further into the room, letting her steps bring her within a few steps of him. Far enough that he couldn't directly reach out and snatch her, but not so far that he couldn't launch himself to do just that. "Oh," she said it as if 'silly me' was going to follow it. Yet she fell silent instead. She noted that Elena was not there... in fact no other Eldouir was.
"Well, you have a gift for tribute," she said, turning to walk away, offering the small piece of information to him as if she was simply stating what was for dinner.

Hiram's golden eyes followed Myla's approach. Her nonchalance. Typical Myla, really, but it was boiling his blood. She was the only member of the family that didn't seem to know her place.
"And where did you acquire this tribute from?" He asked. Why she had gotten something at all made no sense. Tribute was for all Eldouirs. What was this really about? He likely knew but he wanted to hear it from her.

Myla believed it was Hiram that didn’t know his place. He had lost his touch. A woman who used to shut her mouth with a simple look… or lift her skirts for the man… that woman was not necessarily gone, but she was harder to find now.
“You told me to rule my kingdom.” Her answer even, her eyes leveled on him. She could feel the hum inside of her start, the familiar movement of her gift. “A threat was at our border. I reminded them who we are.” What she really meant was she reminded them of who she was. It had been too long. “The tribute is from the Dresmondi who helped.” Even if she had been the one to carry them. They had helped.

Hiram appeared patient. He appeared contained, and mostly unbothered. It wasn't true. Not entirely. He appeared this way because he had already roared and spit fire from his eyes.
"Did you forget," he asked her slowly, "what I told you about leaving?" She was going to play dumb, he could tell already. Like her, his own magic was stirring. It always was, always reaching, always aware.

”You told me that I was not to accompany you and the rest of the Eldouir’s outside of the kingdom.” She didn’t back down. Myla always pushed the limits. Because she knew she was one of the few who could. “You told me to rule my kingdom.” She took a step closer to him. Still just out of reach, but she knew that wasn’t the reach she had to worry about.
“And I am. A threat was at my border, my Dresmondi border. I got them to go away. It should make it more fun for the rest of you when you leave me here. To rule the scum and children.” Her voice remained polished, but those eyes were hard. Hiram had always been someone she idolized (and deep down she did). Because she knew that tingling running up her back was fear. Even if she didn’t show it.
Hiram was the only person who could make her feel that.

Myla talked. She said a lot of things, making a case for herself, but both she and Hiram knew that she had deliberately done what he had told her not to. It was too bad she wasn't standing by it. Hiram would have preferred outright rebellion than this half-assed cowardice.
"Well, I've made a decision." Hiram didn't bother addressing the points she made. "It isn't your kingdom anymore." He made a 'come' gesture with his hand and one of the doors to the hall would open. A servant did it, bid to move by Hiram's manipulation of their blood. Just beyond the door was @adeline, having been summoned. Hiram's timing was perfect because he'd sensed her blood moving. Her delicious, magical blood.
"Adeline will become queen in your place." He hadn't asked Adeline. It didn't matter whether she wanted this or not.
Adeline had been in the middle of re-reading one of her favorite books when she had been summoned. A bit annoyed at the interruption to her quiet time, she had sauntered slowly down the hallway towards their throne room where Hiram was apparently waiting for her.
She reached the door and raised a hand to open it, only to have it swing open before her. She raised an eyebrow and moved forward, only to freeze mid-step as Hiram's voice rang through the room. Her eyes widened, unblinking as her mind raced through what she had just heard. He was making her queen? She had been present for Elena's rebellion, but she had been handled quite well. And Myla had not seemed so against Hiram at the time. Perhaps there was more going on than she knew about.
But it didn't matter, because what Hiram said was law. And he was showing favor to her over the older women. A pleased smirk replaced the shock on her face and she tossed her red curls over her shoulder before striding into the room, head held high. She side-eyed Myla as she passed, moving to stand next to Hiram.
"Hello, Hiram. Myla," she offered, her eyes roaming over the fallen queen.

His decision didn’t come as a surprise. Not by the way she had been ignored when she entered the estate. Though she was surprised by who was taking over. Her lip curling slightly at who she considered one of the weaker Eldouir’s. But Hiram clearly saw something in her.
She didn’t look to Adelaide at all when she entered and strode to stand next to Hiram. Her eyes level on him. She wanted to spit at his feet. Could feel the hum rising higher in her as she stared at him. Everything she had given him, everything. And she still was questioned and pushed and shoved and tossed aside. “Anything else you wish to discuss?” She couldn’t hide the strain in her voice, but did her best to keep a neutral face.

And that there was Myla's weakness. She was held down by the order of this world. She pretended to embrace the superiority of the Eldouirs, but in fact Hiram had seen time and time again that she truly just craved the simple life led by the average man of Lorendale. It disgusted him. She was a goddess among women, a power house among men. She could have blown Adeline away if she chose to. But instead she bit back her competence, squashing it under a farce of willing submission. Hiram was disappointed. He'd been disappointed for some years now, actually. Ever since Myla had willingly taken the throne to play queen. She was so much more than this.
His lips pressed into a line. Perhaps she'd see his disappointment. Perhaps not. Either way, he didn't respond. He simply looked at her. She could take his silence as waiting or she could take it as a dismissal.
It was no surprise to Adeline that she was ignored, but she kept her own gaze trained on Myla, watching her closely. Elena attacking Hiram was still quite fresh in Adeline's mind, and she had ruled alongside Myla since the beginning of Elderkeep. If one of them had been so willing to lash out, surely the other would be as well.
Adeline mentally reached out through the room, searching for any source of water she could find. A left over cup of water on the dining tables, an old bucket of cleaning water. Whatever it was, she pulled a small piece of ice from it and slid it across the room to hover just behind Myla. Waiting, just in case.

Disappointment was nothing new, but it still stung seeing it. She had gone to prove she wasn’t worthless (she was never worthless), and Hiram was pissed? She used to think that perhaps if she was as stunning as Elena that she’d get an easier hand. That she wouldn’t have had to reach for some bar that Hiram constantly pushed out of her reach. He didn’t say anything, and of course, the humming picked up as she turned on her heel.
Only to see the piece of ice dangling in the air.
An explosion of red burst from Myla. From her body and pushing outwards, shoving everything back with force and rattling the walls. The ceiling above cracked, and she turned quickly. Her hand reached out to slam down a tight wall of pulsing energy around Adeline’s form, seeking to pin her arms where ever they were. “Don’t test me, girl,” her own body glowing red with that protective shield around herself.
