GOVERNMENT & MILITARY
GOVERNMENT
There is no established government in Dresmond. There is, however, a sense of organization that can be found in the form of caravans. All citizens are born into and raised as a part of a caravan. Caravans are essentially traveling towns, made up of wagons, wherein the people of Dresmond band together for the greater good. Every caravan has a Driver whose responsibility it is to direct the caravan. This individual functions as a leader within the caravan's community, as they decide where the caravan goes (with input from others). Drivers are elected by the members of a caravan, usually because of some accomplishment that bolsters the community's confidence in him/her.Beyond caravan leaders, there is also "The One." The One is the individual in possession of the Dresmond Medallion, a sacred object within the kingdom that plays a key role in helping citizens find their dyrs. The One comes into possession of the Medallion by way of earning it from the previous One. Earning it looks like battling the possessor and causing him/her to yield. The One is the keeper and protector of the medallion, and a beacon of good fortune within the kingdom. Because of this, The One has no home caravan, and instead travels between caravans every season, spreading good luck and empowering the people.
There is also the Conclave, a meeting of the whole of the kingdom held twice a year. At the beginning of winter and summer the caravans converge at the Cave of Names to preform the Naming Ceremony, to settle any major disputes between caravans, and to make decisions that are relevant to the kingdom as a whole. The One acts as a facilitator during the Conclave. Drivers are responsible for gathering the preference of their caravan, and all Mother Caravans submit a vote for any major changes to be enacted in the kingdom.
* Under Eldouir rule Dresmond is now technically a monarchy; The One is no longer a title, as the Medallion is missing, and Drivers are mostly irrelevant because the Eldouirs have forced the people to settle in one place so that it can act as a city (though, it should be noted that there are some Drivers who gather and influence the people yet, though secretly). The Eldouir monarchy consists of two co-ruling queens. There isn't much order under this monarchy, thus the city is riddled with poverty, crime, and chaos.
The Eldouirs use a favor system to aid in ruling the people. Click here to read more.
MILITARY
One of Dresmond's greatest weaknesses as a kingdom is that they have no organized military. The people who fight Lorendale and Coheed at the borders are either citizens of the Adoi caravan, or rogues inclined to linger at the borders. The Dijila make intentional efforts to train their people to be prepared for battle, though they aren't always around to help, depending on their traveling route.* Under Eldouir rule, there is now an organized military in Dresmond. Despite the family's chaos, the one thing they know how to do well is train up killers. Upon the start of Eldouir rule in Hiems 821, one of the first tasks they set to was building up a military. It was not done in a standard way; they recruited using fear tactics, and those that joined found themselves broken down and built up the way all Eldouirs are.
Dresmondi in the Eldouir military are savages, much like Eldouirs. They've been beaten black, blue, and bloody throughout the course of their training, and put through tests that have broken them mentally. The Eldouirs break them so that they can rebuild them. In this rebuilding their soldiers are trained to tear down their enemies viciously, follow orders mercilessly, and to be loyal to Eldouirs above all else.
The queens, Elena and Avalon Eldouir, are the official heads of the military, though Hiram Eldouir as the head of the family has pull if he ever chooses to express it, which he doesn't. Practically, [OPEN POSITION] oversees the training and conditioning of the military, and is who Dresmondi recruits answer to.
