The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
How did one fix this. That was a great question that Kat didn't really know the answer too. Not that is was surprising, she didn't really have friends.
"I don't know, maybe the expert and master mind behind all this has some answers to that." Looking at Octavious she wasn't sure what all of this was about but would try to keep her claws back for now.

Octavius had expected to set the scene and then sit back. Currently, however, he found both women looking at him. Gulp.
“Well…” His gaze flickered between them, lingering on Kat a little longer each time, “I’ve spoken to both of you about the…what happened. I think you both might be interested to hear the other person’s perspective on it. On what really happened that day…or night…or whatever time of day it was.”

Regan squirmed in her seat, clinging to her pint as if it were a life raft. She breathed deeply and exhaled through her nose when Octavius finished. Okay. Fine. A perspective.
“Alright,” Regan started, keeping her tone cordial but struggling in the awkwardness of it all, “I don’t think I’m the one you should be pissed at.” She directed her attention fully at Kat. “I apologized for my part in it, yes, but you know very well it takes two to tango and it seems like Fabian is a very eager dancer. That’s not my fault. It’s not your fault. So why are you making both of us suffer because your husband can’t keep his hands to himself?”
Really, Regan thought grimly, Kat should be thanking her for stopping things before they got too far. But Regan knew that was definitely too much to hope for.
”I can be pissed at both of you, as you said it takes two.” Why couldn’t she be pissed at both of them? No, she had every right to be angry with both of them, and yes at this point it would be better to move on, but Kat had never been good at letting go of mistrust.
Glaring at the other woman, literally and figuratively she bit the inside of her cheek. ”How am I supposed to ever trust either of you?” She had to at least pretend with the man she married, it’s not like she could get a divorce, but Regan, she had no allegiance to.

Octavius felt the weight of this conversation. His cheeks flushed and he sank a little into his seat, almost wishing he could disappear. Despite this, he felt that they were getting somewhere.
“They both wronged you.” He said to Kat, validating her. “I’d be pissed too.” He nodded, glancing towards Regan, his expression begging patience. “You may never trust either of them again.” It was a sad but true reality. “But rather than thinking about trust, Kat, I wonder if you can think instead about forgiveness. Can you forgive Regan? She’s here. She has asked for it. Maybe,” he looked at Regan now, “she’ll ask for it again…” he raised his brows a little. She had promised she’d try. He wanted this closure for both of their sakes…and his.

Regan puffed up like a threatened lizard as Kat started in. She crossed her arms, but after a moment she uncrossed them, making a conscious effort to appear reasonable—at the very least, not combative. Regan didn’t really want Kat’s trust, but she did want this matter put to rest. Mostly because Octavius had asked her to, but that was reason enough. When Octavius looked at her, she took a deep breath, preparing to swallow the bitter pill of repentance. Because there was one reality in this Regan didn’t want to admit to herself. Maybe, just maybe, she was exactly what Kat had accused her of being all those years ago: desperate. And wrong.
“I’m—” Regan’s voice cracked, so she cleared her throat and tried again. “I’m sorry. It was a fucked up thing to do, and,” She sighed, “I’m sorry.”
The words tasted like vinegar, but they were genuine enough.
"It was fucked up." Slamming down her entire drink and squaring her shoulders she sighed. Kat looked at Octavious, the massive puppy that she was partnered with. So she took a breath and looked at Regan again. "But we all do fucked up things sometimes."
Clenching her jaw and her partners hand she tried to be more than slightly mature. A new thing for her. "So lets just forget about it between us and have more drinks." She had no plans to forget the whole thing, but considering they barely saw each other these days it seemed fine.

Octavius was a guy who liked to see things through. He squeezed Kay’s hand back and said,
“A matter like this isn’t one you forget. You may pretend to,” his glance was pointed, as Kat had admitted to him that she pretended with her husband, “but it doesn’t heal the wound. It just makes you a better liar. And you, Katerina Winters, are too excellent a woman to carry that kind of shitty baggage with you.”
Then he looked to Regan.
“Maybe, Lass, you can tell her more. Not just a sorry. A repentance. Not an explanation for justification, but maybe…just a reason. A humanizing one. Like she said, we all do fucked up things sometimes…”

This was an unexpected turn.
Regan thought a show of remorse would be enough. What she’d done was bad enough. The last thing she wanted to do was unpack the why. The why was too messy, too mortifying to be exposed to the light of day. Immediately she turned red, recoiling like a cornered animal.
“Uh—“ Regan’s eyes darted, confidence shaken, “I—“ She glanced at Octavius, pleading, knowing it wouldn’t make a difference. Before she knew it, the truth was tumbling out of her mouth in a tangled jumble:
“You gotta understand, I’m not exactly the belle of the ball or whatever. I didn’t get practice saying no because no one ever asked. And then when someone did, someone I, uh, really cared about and admired, it turned out he didn’t really want me. I was convenient. The person he actually wanted wasn’t around, and I made him feel better until she could be again. And that shit hurt.” Regan shrugged, taking a drink, “Like you said before, I’m desperate. A bottom-feeder. But for a second it was nice to forget that. To feel better. I’m just sorry you had to get hurt because of it.”
Regan wasn’t making eye contact with anyone. She was just staring at the table, defeated.
Apparently Octavius wasn’t done with whatever this was. It was story time, one that she probably should care about. But it was just depressing, and to blame shit on your childhood? It wasn’t something that Kat understood. She had grown stronger and more confident, and it was surprising to hear that the woman who choked her against a wall didn’t have the confidence to say no.
Biting back the urge to ask if she’d managed to grow up and grow a pair by literally biting her tongue, Kat shifted in her seat. ”You literally have a position that only exists for you. Think you’re the belle of the ball now like it or not.” The best she could do for a sign of pity or at least being a better person.
Hopefully her partner had a better way of being kind and understanding.

Regan’s story might not have worked on Katerina, but Octavius was eating it out of her hand. His eyes had grown large and glossy as he realized just how much of his friend he didn’t understand. He could tell she was hurting, and his empathetic heart went out to her.
Kat’s words weren’t what he expected. He looked towards his partner with concern.
“A change in circumstance doesn’t undo a lifetime of memories.” He said it as if Kat should know that better than anyone. “And,” he looked towards Regan, “she wasn’t at the time. I think what you just divulged was very brave. Thank you.” He had a sinking feeling in his chest. Maybe this was a lost cause…

Regan’s cheeks burned hot as Kat spoke. She but back the sarcastic comment that rose to her tongue, instead turning her eyes to a more friendly face. Octavius, whose eyes were as warm as a cup of cocoa on a cold autumna day.
“Listen…” Regan grumbled, looking back at Kat, “I can go if you want. Just tell me to go, and I will.”
Kat recoiled from her partner. From this whole conversation. Neither of them owed each other anything, which had been perfectly fine until Octavius decided otherwise. And with her partners comments she decided she was done being teamed up on.
"No, y'all feel free to stay, clearly you're close pals and I'm the problem." Standing, the soldier didn't need this in her life. Because nothing was brave about making out with someone's husband in the woods and acting like your past explained it.

Both stubborn, but only one of these two women was still clinging tightly to her pride. Octavius rose to his feet when she did, trying to keep hold of Kat’s hand.
“Thats not it at all, Kat.” Octavius protested. She was closing her eyes and ears to the entire conversation, only hearing and seeing what suited her. Regan had never justified her actions. She had apologized for them.
But, Octavius realized, maybe Kat wasn’t ready for this. Maybe she didn’t want to heal yet. Maybe holding the anger and bitterness in her heart towards Regan and her husband was a tactic.
“I want what’s best for you. You don’t have to be ready to forgive her.”

Regan just sat there. She’d done what was asked of her. Now, she was sad and humiliated and ready to go home. Or at least ready for Kat to leave. She decided then she really didn’t care to be forgiven. Clearly, Kat didn’t care to forgive her anyway. Regan just wanted Kat to keep her disgust to herself so that she—and really Octavius—could get on with their lives.
Regan had been hurt too; it was different, but still it hurt. Kat got to keep her man at the end of the day, and Regan wouldn’t pity her that.
