Fischer had requested to go up in flames. But the Queen had made it clear: He'd get no say in any of this. His death would be not his wish, in fact he didn't get a last wish or anything. Iliana had made that clear from the beginning. For the terror and the deaths that he had caused, for every parent left without a child, every brother without their sister, every child without their mother or father... he got no demands. Her mercy had extended to not stripping everyone with the last name Wyndham to nothing. No, Lorendale would handle their reputation on their own. If they truly didn't align with Fischer, they'd work hard to fix it. To prove they didn't share the same ideals.
Iliana had never been a cruel ruler, or an uncaring one. No one had said that about her before, but perhaps now they were seeing something besides the soft child who had been selected to be queen. A woman, coming into her own, and starting to shine as the ruler that she was born to be. With Cassian Rainecourt at her side, she could feel the nerves running through her, something she only let him see as they waited to be brought to their seats high above the crowd that had gathered just outside the palace walls. Guards, those from Lorendale and Nevermere both lined the center, all at the ready just like they had been at the actual sentencing.
The Queen collected herself just before they'd walk out together, always a unit, but today, Iliana felt the weight more than ever. This was her sentence. And she was putting a man to death for his crimes. She felt no regrets as they took to the stand and after a quick squeeze against Cassian's arm, she'd turn to face her people and the awaiting stage where Fischer would eventually stand. She didn't sit. Rather stand in the open so that when everyone had seated and stilled, when Fischer was lead out, he could face the one responsible for this. Titus Huxley was close to her side, as were her new witch royal guard and two others (one gifted, one not).
