Fabian Winters exited to retrieve the woman he knew to be Norah. It was lucky the man was there. Temperance had no idea who she was, and Ber didn't seem to know, either. On any other occasion she might have liked to meet Katerina's husband, but now was not the time for such introductions.
As Ber hurried into the cottage to retrieve some blankets, Temperance was already in the process of mushing the ingredients she'd picked up with he mortar and pestle. Her eyes bounced back and forth to Ravin, but something quickly began to go wrong. She could feel it before it ever pushed forth through his chest.
Hurrying over to look at him, she stumbled back from Ravin as the shadows began to pour out of his chest. "No, no, no," she muttered to herself, eyes wide. She looked around and Edith was nowhere to be found, and she knew Artos was in the house. "Ravin, please, you must--" but as the smoke billowed out of him, all she could do was back up further away and watch. She covered her ears as the inhuman sound bounced off of the windows and walls of the greenhouse. "Ber, I'm here!" She yelled when she heard his voice, and as he found his way to her, she latched onto his free arm. Her other hand moved away from her ear and to her nose instead, attempting to block the smell. She'd dealt in death. She knew the smell well enough. But it was overpowering.
Tables were knocked over, plants were crushed, and the cabinets behind Malsumis's horrid form were rattled so that she could hear the jars of ingredients and pre-made potions tumbling from their shelves and shattering. "It's a creature -- a summoning - it's latched itself onto Ravin. Looking for that woman, for Norah. I don't know how or why, though," she explained quickly, weighing her options.
When it came to big animals, running was the worst thing you could do. They always gave chase, and the hunt always ended in a kill. Ber alone wouldn't be enough to kill a summoning so large. But she couldn't fight it, either. There was nothing nearby she could sacrifice, short of Ber himself, to summon something big enough to combat Malsumis. So, that left only one option.
"Stay behind me, Ber, put your sword down but keep it ready," Temperance said, moving out from behind Ber. "Malsumis!" She called to it as she sucked in a breath of putrid air and readied her will. "You seek Norah, but she is not here!"
