The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

It was days since the king had collapsed. That was dramatic, he hasn’t quite collapsed so much as he had fallen ill and taken to his bed. The castle was quieter, more people whispered, as if not to disturb him.
Odina has been sent for. While the plan had been that she would return to Cambria, following open court, Cassian had requested that she stay on longer. The plan was for her to return and leave her daughters to train and live at the castle, but Cassian had a reason he wanted her around longer.
The reason would be made plain shortly. Odina was let into the king’s chamber. She would find him sitting up in bed, books and papers at his side, color gone from his face but an energy in his eyes.

Tara entered the King's chambers carrying with her two gifts for her nephew, one gift was a get well soon card made by P'ol the seemingly once wild card of the Ellis's daughters but she'd taken a liking to her cousin from a distance. The second gift was a warm chicken broth with noodle prepared by Lyra by hand using fresh ingredients.
Her eyes first went to his face and relief washed over when he didn't appear to be deathly ill looking, the color of his face was off but by the books and papers scattered around she took this as a good sign.
She gave a respectful bow and a light smile reached her face, "How are you feeling nephew? The girls wanted me to bring you these if I saw you anytime soon."

Cassian was glad to see Odina. It might not have showed in his expression, but his eyes on her were eager. He dipped his head when she bowed and motioned her closer. There was a chair conveniently placed by the bed, close enough to do business but not close enough for her to smell his sickly breath.
"I'm on the mend." He lied, and he did it well. He wasn't getting worse, but he was stuck in an odd place. Perhaps this was the result of years of not resting. It was as if his body took a vacation and wasn't coming back until it wanted to, despite broths and even potions. Everything was temporary. One witch even proposed the real sickness might be mental, but she was quietly seen out.
"Thank you." He said, gesturing to the side table for her to set the things down. The soup would be tested by someone before he could eat it, but not now. Right now, he had business for Odina. But first, pleasantries.
"Have you been fairing well?" It wasn't a health question. She'd just told the world who she was some weeks ago. Surely she was experiencing a new side of life here as a result.

Cassian was strong, even in his pale complexion and current in bed state he was strong, already or still working right on through, dedication for Nevermere and Otara admired that. He was even asking how her life was going, she knew he was asking about things since the revelation.
"Well, lots more interest and people have been a fair bit friendlier... talkative really," she was always trying to read her nephew with little success but she wanted to know something thing truthfully, "did I do okay? do...do you believe my dedication to you?"

Cassian’s eyes one his aunt were bright.
“I do.” He said without missing a beat, and she would have no reason to suspect that he was lying. Because he wasn’t. She’s said more than he expected, and all of it had served to convince him that her intentions were pure.
“In fact,” he continued, taking advantage of the natural transition, “it inspired me.”

A smile touched her face and the weight of failure stripped away from her stomach to be replaced with well pride. She had inspired a King, her nephew a man she felt was nothing like his Father.
However, she listened more curious than before, "Inspired you? How so nephew?"

Cassian nodded his head, a slight thing but a sure thing coming from him. He took a quiet moment to gather his words, to choose the phrasing he thought would best convey what he wanted Odina to do.
“I want you to govern Cambria.” His eyes held the same light they had since he entered, and if she hadn’t recognized it for the excitement that it was, surely she would now.

Otara was surprised and it was written across her face, "Me?" she took a minute to gather herself from the surprise before graciously bowing her head, "I mean absolutely, it is an honor and one I won't let you down doing either," she hadn't been in Cambria for almost six years so she was mildly curious about it's state, "Can you tell me the state of things within Cambria? And how has Kore done as Governor? Do you have a goal in mind for my return?"

Cassian was pleased to hear her acceptance, and eager to disclose the answers to her inquiries.
“Kore was killed by the Witch Doctor, Isolde. She then changed her title to Priestess and has been governing Cambria all this time.” He watched for her reaction, giving her a moment to take in what he had said.
“I stood by and let her do as she pleased, determining that a slow transition into the fold of Neveremere would be best for Cambria. Unfortunately, it seems Isolde has been dividing Cambria between those who are accepting of Neveremere and those who are not. There has been strange activity in the territory that must be put to an end. I want to send you there to work alongside Minister of Foreign Affairs Norah Cater. She is well acquainted with the situation.”
He paused again then, closing his next words carefully.
“Cambria was intended to be an asset to Nevermere. The alliance I made with Kore was to strengthen and untie our people groups. This will not be undone by a zealot and those who follow her. I am willing to allow whatever it takes…”

Kore had been murdered? By the Witch Doctor? She gritted her teeth all the things she could imagine being done during a zealots rein those type of people ruled by fear and strife dividing a already weak kingdom with itself was irresponsible.
"We will see to it then," she confirmed and with his daunting yet necessary last statement Otara was willing to do whatever needed to secure Cambria as an asset again, "I am ready to return when you need me to nephew, the two oldest girls have decided to stay behind, P'ol will return for mandatory training if that is allowed...will I be going back as Odina or do I govern as Tara?"

Cassian nodded at her certain words. She would see to it. At first her word hadn’t meant much, but now that she had had an opportunity to prove it, he believed her. He hoped in her.
“I think you will be most readily received in Cambria as Odina. Perhaps a middle ground? Odina Ellis?”

"That sounds just fine," she was content with that and as she looked over her nephew's bed she found now was perhaps the time to get advice from him about what Kennet and her were working on, "can we talk about a few other things? Only if you are up to it of course, I want to talk about what me and Kennet was working on...about finding perhaps my other siblings.." she paused, he was still her King so if he didn't want to discuss such things in his current state or at all she'd understand. But she felt if anyone would be onboard with finding the lost Ellis children to bring them around such as Odina had been.

Cassian remained inactive for a thoughtful moment. That wasn’t a request he was expecting. To find the Ellis siblings. His aunts and uncle. Of course he had thought about them over the years. Wondered about them. Dreamed about them, sometimes. But only in nightmares, because he knew they hated Julius and likely hated Julius’ heir, the man living the life they should have. Especially his uncle.
It was after a pause long enough for her to know that he was conflicted that Cassian finally said,
“I would not deprive you of reconnecting with your siblings.” He thought of Ophelia. “What plan are you proposing to do so?”

"We have been trying to find something from my past to find my brother first, we figured finding him would be perhaps the easiest or hardest to approach first he wouldn't know anything about our family. But we've been using Kennets sight," Cassian would see the glow of appreciation that he had just garnered from his Aunt as it lit up her face, the glow was in her features and not as much in the smile even though she was smiling, "Which... she'll need me just as I'd need her, but a horse ride between here and Cambria plus our positions, which is also I guess a good time to discuss seeing the girls at least...twice a season...I'm open to any suggestions your highness of course."

Kennet. Of course, her Sight could be the key to helping Odina. What would happen when they found the long lost prince? Surely it was not lost to Odina that there were some who would happily put him on Cassian's throne? Well, Cassian wouldn't fret over that now. When the time came, he would be prepared, and he would do whatever necessary to preserve Nevermere and the work he had started here.
"Lady Kennet," he referred to her formally, as was proper, "will take visits to Cambria using the key in my possession. We can arrange for her to bring your daughters for visits each time that she does." They were reaching the end of their arrangements here.
