The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Change in how times flows. Was 4 IC seasons, now only 2 IC seasons per 1 OOC year.
5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

Felicity felt a growing sense of shame blossoming in the cavity of her chest. She was a marshal. She was about honor and integrity. Her husband was a knight. His code was one of chivalry and loyalty. Together they made a fine, vigilant pair, fighting for Lorendale. This...this was a fight, too, but it was done secretly.
This would be a turning point for Felicity. Would she set down her public mantle, so to speak, to take up this private one? To do things in darkness in a way she had only tampered with before?
Even as she questioned herself, she knew the answer. This wasn't just any cause. This couldn't be dealt with just any way. And not just anyone would do it.

“Have your forces at the ready to keep the peace, but make your preparations quietly. I have every hope it will not come to an open conflict, but we should be ready. Just in case.” With that terrifying reality out of the way, Simon moved on. “As for the leaked report…I will see that it’s released quietly. But once it’s out in the open, I need you to keep fanning the flames. Your audience with the queen has set the stage, now we just have to walk on it.”
There was a metaphor in there somewhere, however clumsy.

Felicity nodded her head at his words. They had just lost another fifty or so soldiers. Her people were tired. Disheartened. There was a rumor that the Zak army was cursed. Maybe it was. She would scrounge up who she could to see this through. For Lorendale. For her family.
“Okay.” She said it softly. Was there any other way to talk about…what was this? She didn’t have a word to give it.

Okay. Such a simple word to close a deal that was arguably treasonous. Simon was a patriot, and for so long he'd seen service to his kingdom and to its crown as one and the same. But things just weren't that simple anymore.
But there was one last thing that weighed on him.
"I... trust this will stay between us," Simon said carefully. It wasn't lost on Simon that Felicity's husband had recently taken a new position. That should things deteriorate, Felicity and Tybalt would find themselves on opposite sides of an explosive conflict.
But Felicity was a smart woman. It likely wasn't lost on her either.

Was Felicity a smart woman, though? How could Simon be sure? She wasn’t stupid, but that didn’t make her smart. She was loyal and emotional, often times emotionally led. Was this agreement another one of those times when she would have been better off keeping to herself and letting things pan over?
She didn’t think so. That’s why she had agreed.
“Of course.” She said quietly, a dash of sorrow in her voice. She wished this was something she could share with her husband, but she was sure she would only face his judgement and parent-like admonishment. Unfortunately, Felicity didn’t have Tybalt’s support when it mattered the most. That was just a circumstance she would have to cope with. Silently.
“For Lorendale.” She said it even more quietly, but with conviction.

“For Lorendale.”
Simon’s voice was louder, resonant and full-on certainty. He was not a man of ambition, but one of service. If this was what it took to preserve the future of Lorendale for his children, he was willing to take on whatever personal risk would come with it.
“Forgive me, but I must return to the palace,” Simon said, standing, “but we should talk again. Soon.”

Felicity felt flustered when Simon stood, but she managed to come to her feet with him.
“Yes, of course.” She looked around the room to help him gather his things but there was nothing to get. So instead she moved forward and offered an arm to him to help lead him out.
“Please, come by anytime.” Because she had not intention of going to the palace.

Simon nodded firmly before accepting Felicity's arm. He silently knew that his ability to drop by would be hindered from here on out. Secrecy would be a governing principle Simon typically detested, but would now equip by necessity.
Assuming there was no further business, Simon would be transferred from Felicity's arm to the guidance of his assistant. From there, Simon would continue on, back to the palace, a queasy fear settling cold in his stomach.
They were right. Come what may, they were on the side of the patriots. Of that, Simon was sure.
