The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Izen was confused. He had been for days, weeks, seasons. Ever loyal and rather I confrontational, however, he kept it to himself. At least, he did until now.
It was early morning, early enough that some of the village still slept. Izen went to Kaalim’s hut. His brother was very likely eating breakfast, or perhaps still sleeping, or…well, Izen would wait. This matter was one he had deliberated over for too long now. Too long to let anything get in the way of having an honest discussion with his brother.
He found a comfortable place by a near-dead fire to sit, and sent a child or a wife—whichever found him first—to fetch his brother.

Kaalim had been awake sitting in quiet solitude until one of the wives, showing in her belly that she was pregnant, came to tell him that the youngest child told a slightly older kid to tell the oldest kid to tell one of their Mothers that Uncle Izen was looking for him. Pushing himself up with a heavy sigh the big man made his way to his brother he felt it wasn't going to be a good conversation, no one understood Kaalim and his stepping down as Governor nor did he have any real answers but it was done. Kaalim got them through their near extinction and he felt that was what he had stepped into the role to do after? After he bent a knee in the dirt begging for help and that he got it by handing over his people's land...he fought to keep some tradition...but without war...without oppression...his people didn't know what to do. Women remained timid and men were brutishly standoffish with pent up hunger.
Exiting his home his large brown eyes found Izen sitting by a dying fire, "Good morning Izen," and he slowly made his way over to join his little brother.

Izen looked up when Kaalim appeared. His eldest brother. The one he had looked up to, idolized even, since he was young. He was such a picture of might and leadership, it was hard to remember that he was not the Chieftain anymore.
“Hello, brother.” Izen returned, sincere care in his gaze. He waited for Kaalim to grow comfortable before softly intoning, “I just want to understand.” There were so many things. So many aspects to this change that he couldn’t grasp. Kaalim hadn’t offered an explanation, not to even his loyal brother, so here the loyal brother was to ask.

Kaalim knew eventually he'd have to answer everyone that mattered to him as to why he stepped aside. Taking a seat beside Izen Kaalim slowly picked up a stick to push around the embers of the dying fire taking a moment to gather his thoughts afraid he would hurt the confusion more but a heavy sigh was all he could muster, "I don't know if I can explain it Izen, not enough for you to understand without confusing you more or hurting you, but I didn't know what more I could do...I saved our people, I know that much. I got us to a point we could rebuild but I handed our kingdom away to Nevermere....can you say, truthfully, that you wish to remain under them?"

Izen let his brother sigh. He let him take his time. That was what Kaalim needed from him. Patience. Understanding. When he did speak, Izen's brow was soft over his eyes. He wasn't angry.
"Of course not." Izen whispered, unsure of where Nevermere might have ears. Certainly in Rian's bed. "But you did what was needed. I do not fault you for that." He was looking intently at his brother. "I've never faulted you for the difficult decisions you have had to make. I have understood them all...until now. Because now they aren't your decisions to make." Kalim had handed the mantle, making himself virtually powerless.
"Did..." he hesitated, ashamed to even have to ask, "did I not support you well enough?" It wasn't about Rian. Izen trusted Rian. But Rian wasn't just Rian anymore. The recent appointment of his Nevermerean wife to the role of Chieftess was evidence enough.

Kaalim's mouth actually hung open with surprise at his brothers question, "Izen," Kaalim made sure he was looking at Izen he forced nothing but admiration and love from his earthy brown eyes, "brother you have supported me when I didn't deserve it, when I costed you so much already...you came forward the most out of anyone in my entire life with unyielding support..never question that."

Kaalim's words served to heal an uncertainty that had been eating away at Izen. He nodded, his thick neck moving his near-bald head, glad to hear what his brother had to say. He'd always needed a little more verbal affirmation that some of the other Cyrilsons. It was very good to hear.
"You were good for us, Kaalim." Izen said, because he was sure his brother didn't think so. "I know Rian will be, too...but I have to admit that I am concerned about his wife." He watched Kaalim for a cue that he should stop talking about it. He would if Kaalim told him to.

At the mentioning of Magda Kaalim looked around then stood, "I think it's best we continue this conversation inside?" there were two many ears were present and he'd wait for Izen to follow him, especially if he wanted to have this conversation. If Izen followed Kaalim would enter into his dwelling (a bit smaller than the Governor's home) where children littered around and four very pregnant wives tended them or each other.
Kaalim would pass through the crowd and enter into his fairly large sleeping area. It was entirely lined with furs and in the middle of the room was a pile of furs and sacks stuffed with feathers, he headed for a corner where a wooden table and chairs sat offering Izen a chair.
"....the meeting with Isolde, your same concerns were sentimental of hers. But Rian believes Magda to be less pro-Nevermere than even I know," Kaalim sat crossing his arms over his chest, "and Rian is very certain he can keep her on...our side."

Izen followed his brother into a more secret place. Of course, with enhancements like theirs, Coheedsmen had learned how to insulate spaces for privacy. Some had secrets to share, and others simply liked to partake of orgasms without all their neighbiors knowing they’d just been laid (but, let’s be honest, most intentionally didn’t insulate for that activity).
When he settled again and heard what his brother had to say next, he was confused.
“There is something odd about that woman. She can…” he shook his head. “Have you noticed how she controls others? I am concerned for Rian. Do you truly think he can remain in control?”

Kaalim had noticed early that Magda got what she wanted but he just figured that was part of her charm and position, he himself falling to that charm and we'll figure she was a beautiful woman which Kaalim had a weakness for. Still the angry beast within Kaalim knew what Izen was speaking on and in a sixth sense kind of way Kaalim remember the night Ra'ead was killed when he was the beast the way she had ....
"when Ra'ead was killed and I changed into the beast...she had calmed it and that well that's a feat, I myself can only let it tire itself out before I change back," he sighed, "but he's she certainly has a way to get what she wants, I suppose you haven't took this concern to Rian? You are his second, you hold more power than you think with him, it's a respected position."

Izen wasn't sure what he credited to Magda's control of people, but he knew it was uncanny. Coheedsmen were proud and independent. No matter how pretty or sexually tantalizing the woman, no female had ever ruled them the way Magda did. It wasn't right. She wasn't in her place. And unfortunately, Rian was only supporting that, from what Izen had seen.
"Uhh..." Izen started, raising his hand to scratch at his head, "I don't...I don't think our brother trusts me as he does you. He doesn't call on me for anything. Since the change in leadership I've just been...drifting." He shrugged his shoulders. And what was he going to do about it? Not complain. But Kaalim's words held more power with Rian than Izen's did, that was for sure.
"I think the second is only as powerful as the first makes him."

"and that may be my fault," he confessed heavily, "I can't say I involved you as much as I should or even Rian...it's a learned habit that needs to be broke," and he would talk to Rian about it sooner than later, "but in the meantime it doesn't mean we can't be closer to Rian until then...not to spy on him but on Magda, to make sure her alignment stays in Rians favor....," he then had another thought, "do you think she has her way through her witch magic?"

Izen nodded, feeling numb. It didn't feel like enough, but he supposed this was all they could do. Watch. Wait. Hope. There was so much outside of their hands, yet here they sat, supposedly the ones to bring change to Coheed.
"I don't have the slightest clue." He said simply in regards to Magda. She could just be a manipulative woman--their father had warned them of the likes of her--but Izen felt like there was more to it. Still, he didn't possess the magical object knowledge to deduce that she might be using something on them, and he didn't know enough about witches to know persuasion wasn't exactly in their skill set. So he was blind, forced to trust what he knew (or didn't know), and do what he could.
"But I want to do right by Coheed. We owe it to Bantu Siri. To our people."
Post by Kaalim Cyrilson on Mar 17, 2023 10:59:45 GMT -5
"Yes," Kaalim agreed wholeheartedly with Izen, "yes we do, and because me I owe much more," he had given them over to Nevermere so easily and Kaalim knew getting out was going to be a far more difficult, "We just need to make sure we're more involved around Rian, and training our warriors should be done by Coheed men...in the meantime I believe we need to be more observant of Magda, which I can do, if her intentions are to deceive us again," he half believed she was the reason for the Othello discovery, "we go to Rian."

Izen nodded, liking and agreeing with his brother's plan. Trusting his brother completely. He let a silence fall between them, eyes set on the fire. It was likely that was all that would be said today. If so, he was content.
