The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

(this thread is for @katerina and @faylin )
Their first mission in Cambria or period had been a bit of a bust in Kaspers heart but something else budded that Kasper hadn't expected, his relationship with Faylin. They had talked a little about how that would work when going back home and their day to day, they figured a day by day approach was best. Either way Kasper Van Zant was happy, even with the looming sadness he had to have put aside with Mina's murder.
The pair after debriefing and checking in with their Captain decided it was time to go home, see the kids and relieve Kat for a much needed reprieve. The pair entered the house and Kasper heard laughter and some running, he couldn't help but smile as he gave a little shout, "...oi! Van Zants...weeee'rre hooome."
It went silent except for the closing of the door behind him and then it was the thunder and scuttling of feet echoing through the silence. The youngest twins lead the pack and they shouted so loud that Kasper AND Faylin were home! They flew into the pair with hugs and cries almost knocking Kasper down...
"easy! easy! We've been on a dangerous mission give some warning before more knees hit me in not so friendly places," Kasper pleaded picking up Sanska who was crying happy tears, "missed you shit ass, is Kat with you?"
This made Kasper look confused shaking his head, "She's been here right?"
Home. Faylin never knew she could miss the salty ocean air of Nevermere as much as she had, but her first step outside she inhaled deeply, closing her eyes and feeling the peace of familiarity settle around her. There was only one small difference, and that was her changed relationship with Kasper. She wondered how Kat would handle the news, or if she would have any reaction at all.
She didn't want to wait long to find out, and though she wouldn't admit it, she had also missed the Van Zant kids. Her and Kasper had practically run home to the Van Zant house, and a grin rested on her face as they stepped inside and Kasper shouted for anyone who was home.
Her eyes widened slightly at the silence that fell before the deafening thunder of a herd of creatures running towards them. The creatures being the kids, of course. She found herself laughing as they were swarmed, and it took all of her concentration not to fall over as multiple kids latched themselves onto her legs, holding on for dear life.
Gently placing her hands on top of their heads, her smile died a bit when they asked if Kat was with them. Glancing at Kasper, she waited for the kids to answer him. If Kat hadn't been home with them, where was she? And who had been taking care of the kids?
Coheed had been exactly what Kat needed. At first she had been annoyed, training another kingdom seemed like a poor strategy and honestly boring, but it hadn't been all that bad. And then just when she started hitting her stride it was time to be yanked back to Nevermere. Back to responsibility, back to complicated family matters, back to superiors.
But it also meant seeing her siblings and children, the one part of her life that always made sense. Picking up her kids and leaving a note for Fabian that she'd be with her siblings for the night, Kat made her way through the market, grabbing some food, pre-made as she had no plans on recreating her disastrous cooking attempts. Finally arriving, not bothering to knock with an, "I'm back bitches."
Which is when her eyes landed on her twin and Faylin. "And you are too it would seem. Everyone's getting pulled, interesting."

Kasper nor the children blinked or much less heard Kat talking about the soldiers being pulled, Kasper just wrapped his twin up in the tightest bear hug he could muster as the rest of the children gathered round for one massive hug. For the most part all the children and a great part of the cousins were present, but they had their own news to share once the hugs were over.
Kasper absentmindedly was still holding Kat's hand when he stepped back, "Where have you been? Whose been watching this lot?"
Turning his head to survey the faces he took a silent count, four were missing and Saska stepped up confidently, "I've been handling the lot," she beamed folding her arms, "I watched Kat long enough to know how to cook, better even," the kids laughed in agreement, "Been taking care of the home. I've got things from here, some of the cousins and two of our brothers enlisted...their at mandatory training."
The younger twins who had took a liking to Faylin were looking blank faced and smiling at her and Kasper, her then Kasper, and repeat.
Faylin had remained silent, a hand absently resting on a child's head as she watched Kat and Kasper's reunion. She didn't miss Kat's words as Kasper had and her eyes narrowed slightly though not with malice.
"We were gone for on season and you ran off and joined the military?" she asked, a small smirk lifting the corners of her lips. She remembered faintly the conversation she had had with Kat about helping her rejoin the military if she wanted. It seemed she hadn't need any help in the matter.
But there was something else in what she said that raised a red flag in Faylin's mind, though she didn't voice her concern. Not yet. They had indeed all been pulled from their assignments back home to Nevermere. Something was going on and she had the sinking feeling that they would not be able to enjoy being home for long.
"The triplets were in charge, stop being dramatic Saskia." Rolling her eyes, Kat shoved her little sisters shoulder as the triplets laughed. It's not like she had left high and dry, although it was interesting to her that Fabian hadn't been involved as he had promised to be. Certainly that would have been something Saskia mentioned, and so something she was going to have to look into.
Looking at Faylin with a grin she shook her head. "It was in the works right before you guys left but this one-" Shoving her twin in the shoulder, "decided to just go with just a letter." So now they got to find out this way. Which honestly, tracked with a chaos of the family.
"Now who wants food that I didn't make so the adults can chat?"

With Kats offer of food she wouldn't be making the children and cousins took off to the kitchen leaving the two adults and Kasper alone. When the last triplet herded around the corner Kasper smiled proudly at his sister, "Where did they send you? What do you thinks going on for them to call us all back?"
"I was in Coheed." She hadn't told anyone, but of course she told her twin and thus Faylin. The woman was basically an attachment to the Van Zants whether she liked it or not. "There was a huge fight or something because of Lassiter. Shocker. But no idea." It hadn't seemed like there had been real issues in Coheed, but maybe Cambria? "What about Cambria? Anything that might be why?"
Faylin glanced briefly at Kasper before she spoke. Kat had offered up details on her deployment, though Faylin was quite certain none of them were supposed to do that. "There is definitely a lot of unrest. They are branding the women who have children with our soldiers as punishment."
She grimaced at the shock of anger that lanced through her. They had learned that much, but nothing had been done about it.

Kasper jokingly put his hands on his hips looking between the two, "Statue of secrecy mean nothing to you two?" he was smiling hopefully they would both know by now how he was a jokester, "but since we are all blabbing, no I don't think what's going on in Cambria is the reason to call everyone home, seriously wouldn't take this many to stomp out anything in Cambria....plus why pull us from places if there are potential threats? But I got no idea, shits about to drop though."
He knew he didn't want to talk about it but he had to rip the wrap off the wound, "di...did you happen to invest.... investigate Mina's death?" he couldn't hide his shaken and hurt face in front of his twin nor from Faylin in the light because it was there. Kasper hadn't dealt with it once since, he didn't want to talk about it and this was hard alone. No more excuses for Kasper like he had when he was in Cambria. He was home. The pain and the hurt and the true reality of her death and absence was all there to smack Kasper. And she was casting numbing waves of cold pains.
"Val Delaney mentioned something about Dresmond. No idea why." Shrugging her shoulders, Kat didn't think this was on any of them to figure it out. Eventually. And that's why she had no plans to climb the military ladder like her twin and Faylin had. They could help send all of them to wars they had no business being in.
But then came something she actually had started to gain some ground on. "I had to leave before getting too far. But, it's definetly the same person or thing that took Rosamere Morrigan." And she was starting to figure out how to get her back.
They could debate all night about what the future held, but she knew they would all be waiting around for the Captain Commander or the King to tell them what was going anyway. So Faylin merely shrugged, crossing her arms across her chest. "I'm sure we'll find out soon enough what's going on."
She was more interested in what Kat had to say about her investigation. "A Morrigan was taken?" Faylin's arms dropped to her sides and she took a step forward, a pair of blue eyes she hadn't thought of in a long time flashing through her mind. "Has anyone been assisting you with this investigation?"

"A Morrigan? Well they'll have every noble house and soldiers out looking for them," he hadn't meant to sound so bitter but the Van Zants didn't matter they had chucked his sisters savage murder on something as absurd as a wild animal, "but ..," he was curious about Faylins question so he shut up.
"Well..." Her eyes looked over at Kasper. He was going to hate this, but it wasn't like she had many options when she was leaving for Coheed. She'd needed to act quick. And that had left her with... "Keelan Morrigan has been the only one seemingly interested in helping."
She took a swig of her drink and watched her twin, not sure how he'd take the news. But desperate time had called for desperate measures, and none of the higher ups had seemed interested in helping or doing anything. So Keelan the greedy, blue-eyed merchant was the only option. Booo corny.

"fuckin' hell," Kasper was surprised, "that guy is a major dick head, I say that with all due respect," he shook his head, "I get it, why he'd be helping that's family and if we can respect anything is doing anything for family...but we are here what can we do?"
