The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Change in how times flows. Was 4 IC seasons, now only 2 IC seasons per 1 OOC year.
5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

As both a scholar and advisor, Simon’s profession was to gather the facts, present an argument, and persuade his audience to agree. He’d tried to do as much with Castiel, but the man had been beyond recall. He may think that he’d fallen in love with Annabeth after their marriage, but Simon knew better. Love had already sunk its hooks into Castiel’s heart before they tied the knot.
Simon wasn’t above saying ‘I told you so’ on other occasions, but today he held his tongue. He chuckled along with Castiel, shaking his head. “As long as you’d like,” Simon said without hesitation. It was the least he could do, of course. But the hurt in Castiel’s voice haunted him. He wasn’t a man to forget. Once Castiel purchased a home, moved out, and officially separated in the public eye…it was over. There was no going back. All hopes of salvaging their marriage would be gone. Perhaps there was another way. Perhaps…
“If she did love you, if you could be sure of it, would you stay?”

"Thank you," came the quiet reply. Castiel could see his friend was thinking about something, but before he could ask, Simon answered him. But the question, he wasn't sure of.
If she really did love him, would he stay?
He pondered the question for a while in silence, staring at the bubbles floating to the surface of his drink. In the end, all he could do was shrug.
"I can't honestly say. Even if she proved herself to be loyal, she still broke my trust. She broke a promise to me, right where I could see her. I can't forgive that easily. A man is only as good as his word, but what about a woman? Can you answer that?"

A man was only as good as his word, but a woman? Women had to be more skilled in the art of conversation. They could spin lace with words and men used them as blunt instruments. Right or wrong, women were more liable to be judged by their actions. And Annabeth had been clear enough with hers.
“She should be made to demonstrate her loyalty. To give up conveniences and prove your marriage to be her top priority.” Simon crossed his arms with a sigh. “Confine her to your estate. Give her time to reassess her priorities.”

Castiel rubbed his chin. Simon had a good point, and a better idea. If she really was loyal, as she claimed, she would prove it. Besides, perhaps he'd been too lenient of late.
But his own anger was bubbling at the surface like the bubbles in his drink. He couldn't just go right now. He set his cup down.
"I like the idea, but if I go back now, I'll just lose my temper and be unable to speak to her. Allow me some time here, and then I will return to her, and give her this chance. Would that be alright with you?"

Simon, not a man prone to pity, did feel pity for his friend. His marriage to Romilly had been arranged; one made for practical reasons rather than ones of love. But he’d grown to love her—more deeply than he’d ever thought possible. He could only imagine the pain of having that love betrayed.
“Of course,” Simon said, “for as long as you need. And…” Simon chanced a smirk, “Perhaps you should. I may be a blind man but I can see a thing or two.” Simon sighed, taking another sip of his drink. If Castiel allowed it, he’d let a silence settle between them, filled only by the crackling of the fire.
There was comfort in it. The familiarity of friendship in a time of trouble. There were, of course, arrangements to be made. But that was a problem for tomorrow. Today, this would have to be enough.
