The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

(this thread is for @yeva )
Today was judgement day, for the critter in question it was the last piece to her little demented gift for her friend, @yeva was around her age maybe just a tad bit younger probably three to four years younger by Eirwen's math. The pair had basically been raised in the Eldouir era of Dresmond. They were the weirdos and outcast's in a way slightly twisted way that would just make sense, Eirwen really loved her friends gift all the weird things she could do and the gruesome things she made...of herself...again their friendship made sense.
It was still judgement day. A chipmunk had been getting into grain ruining a fair lot of it with droppings and careless eating. The pair had traced its location to a wrecked wagon and it had already stumped them twice, not today.
"we gotta flush it out Ye," Eirwen was out of breath having just thrown her body on the ground in a dive of failure, she blamed Yule who hadn't been trying hard enough, "do your little thing...produce a hand and send it in there..."

Of all the Dresmondi, Eirwen was Yeva's personal favorite. Delightful Eirwen who didn't mind the things that Yeva got up to when she was bored. The only thing that could make her more perfect was if she'd been born an Eldouir instead of a Dresmondi. That was the only hiccup in Yeva's eyes. She'd decided she had to have her when she killed a small child to get Hiram's attention.
A wide grin, more than normal, stretched across her face seeing Eirwen on the ground. Tilted her head to the side before she tracked the pesky rodent. Mm. Later maybe, as she stalked forward with a weird sort of grace that comes from initmately knowing your own body to the very tiniest pieces.
"Here, here little vermin."
She leaned down, hand forward and stretched her bones and her skin to reach in, made an eye at the end of a finger to see their prey. Then another arm out of her wrist with a hand at the end. All the better to snatch it with.

Having Yeva felt like being complete for Eirwen, they shared a great deal in common and right now in that moment stronger feelings seemed to pull and stir within the Dresmondi girl she just didn't realize. Those stirring feelings she had she credited to the thrill of their hunt and just being with Yeva...she hadn't noticed how she bit her bottom lip and held her breathe to see the creation of Yeva's extra appendages, how she said vermin it was all fun.
"if you grab it don't kill it Yeva! I need it for something I'm making....please," she corrected herself and remembered she was still Dresmondi.
An eye rolled open in her neck, looking at Eirwen as her own tongue peaked out between sharp sharp teeth. "Mmm maybe I should make you ask nicely, Eir."
Oh, yes. Later was certainly going to be visited with that look on the taller girl's face. She wanted and, what Yeva wanted, she got. Which was this little rodent. The eye on her finger shifted, got a dilated pupil to see in the dark better as she reached and reached.
There it was.
The eye on her shoulder sunk under her skin, closing up like it was never there as her focus shifted to a tiny scurrying body and fingers creeping forward. Creeping, creeping, creeping, SNATCH. It squealed as her hand grabbed it, squeezing just enough.... but she didn't kill it. Just pulled back and back and back until she was dangling it in the air by its foot. Just watching it squirm.

Most folk would have felt uneasy when the eyeball popped out the back of her neck, they would have flinched at the sharp teeth and the lingering threat that kindly rolled off Yeva's protruding tongue. Eirwen got chills, even though that was her best friend the girl was still Eldouir royalty and Eirwen boldly towed that line sometimes of just how beneath the family she was. Still...Yeva was there.
The cries of fear that came from the captured chipmunk grew more evident and louder as Yeva dragged the little critter out into the open, and ask nicely Eirwen did almost begging, "oh please please don't kill it ... The thing I'm working on is a birthday gift for you! You'll love it Princess Yeva Eldouir or I'll freeze myself to death where I stand...swear it," there was passion and pleading in every word and with her hands clasped together and a pouty face of a oddly twisted dark haired girl.
She held the critter in the air, moved it between them and watched it as Eirwen begged. She tilted her head, looking at Eirwen on the otherside of the chipmunk Oh, now she certainly couldn't kill the critter now. Not that she'd planned to because she was curious, wanted to see just what her favorite little Dresmondi was going to make. Especially since she hadn't said anything till now.
She lifted the chipmunk out of the way, extra arm stretching and bending forward on an arm that shouldn't bend that way. "No, no. Freezing all of you would be such a waste." There was a dark little hum at the end, almost a purr, as she leaned in. "Though I know you'll give me something lovely. You've not disappointed me before."
The chipmunk squealed as she pinched the foot tighter.

'you are going to show her,' Yule pointed out very dry and suspected because...
"I can show you! Right now," Eirwen wasn't good with surprises so she didn't keep them well from others buuut, this one was special she could have almost kept it secret too, "we just gotta go to my place yeah?"
'oooh a trip, yippie, wait until she sees what we did for her,' his tone didn't convey it well but Yule was actually curious and secretly hoping it was another bonus win for his human.
Eirwen would lead the way at first walking backwards for a bit hands stretched, "can I hold it? Even though it's a stupid animal they are just so cute, you can just tell their alive too! The way their hearts beat so fast," she mused with laughter.
Yeva was very much entertained and amused. The right amount of push and begging to keep everything just the way she liked it. Really. Eir was darling. Like a pet viper trained to bite whatever Yeva put in her general direction. Oh, if only she had Eldouir blood.
"A little trip sounds fun." And she licked her lips as she bent back, twisted herself back upright in a way that would have hurt anyone else.
She glanced up at the chipmink, lowered it just above Eirwen's open hands. If she focused, she could feel its racing pulse underneath the elongated fingers of her extra arm. It's panicky pulse was cute, Eir was right she supposed.
"You'll take care of it, Eir." The chipmunk was put in her waiting hands.

Eirwen took the chipmunk and with the wheel around and whip of her dark hair, provided Yeva did follow, Eirwen took off back towards her solo abode. They both had their youthful energy as they ran, Yule kept up through quick bursts of sprinting into short boughts of low level gliding, all the while Eirwen sang in her head a haunting melody about having this rodents life in her hand.
Her home was on the outskirts of Elderkeep, three wagon blocks in a simplified Eirwen unit of measurement. It was a hobble of three different wagons deconstructed and then constructed into one large something, they needn't worry about a door as there was none so both plus Yule could fly through the open entrance. Inside was mostly empty of anything: Eirwen had one little corner with a bedroll and a small collection of whatever all tucked into that one corner. The rest was open space to large for the one girl but she didn't mind, because if one looked around they'd find critter galore....frozen solid in various places...in fact Yeva would realize that most of the walls were frozen solid too. The room was very cold and Yule even as he pecked around the old wooden floor was continually keeping the temperature down, Eirwen grabbed two thick coats and very worn mittens handing both to Yeva if she wanted them, "okay...so...we gotta go into what I call the freezer...it's super cold but it keeps my gift for you safe," Eirwen would offer her hand so she could guide Yeva through to the only room that had a door, "please close your eyes..." Eirwen wouldn't know if she did or care if she didn't as she pushed the door open a new gust of very cold air would greet them (Eirwen gave a single shiver) but under the two lanterns what she wanted to show Yeva was evident...
Spanning from on wall to another was what looked like the entirety of the Eldouir family skating in ice, only each little Eldouir was represented by a completely frozen animal what she could detail of their gifts created out of an assortment of things, each creature had red hair made from fine cut red fabrics she had found: there was Hiram Eldouir covered in blood at the center played by a frozen red fox, Elena Eldouir who looked like she was lifting a little toad without effort played by a red cardinal, @alistor was blowing something up as he was played by a beaver, @myla was a hedgehog with a red lacy fabric frozen around her, and of course @adeline who was a frozen armadillo and she had a intricate wall of ice frozen behind her...the only piece missing was her best friend Yeva, to which Eirwen held her piece in her hand.
Yeva was content to follow her friend back to the little place she called home. Which, she'd certainly been told that Lorendale had had better hovels. But she wasn't going to pop the bubble of pride that Eirwen had going because it fit her, in its own little way. The critters, frozen and dead around the room, brought a smile to her face. She liked this. Very much liked this, for all the cold goosebumps she could feel creeping.
And of course, it was certainly worth the little bit of pressure she'd put on the older girl when there was a coat and gloves handed to her. So, she put them on if even darling, demented Eirwen was using them herself. Now, if it had been any other non-Eldouir who had asked her to close her eyes in a location that was not the Eldouir home, she'd have a very different reaction than her current one. Which was her grinning up at Eirwen with a raised eyebrow.
"Well since you've been keeping such a large secret you said please..." She trailed off with a dark little giggle but closed her eyes nonetheless.
Whatever she had expected the gift to be, this surpassed it in entirety. Both in scale and impressiveness. It wasn't often that she was surprised in such a manner but this certainly took the cake. Between the critters and the attention to detail, it was practically delightful.
" Oh you have practically out done yourself, Eirwen." There was an undercurrent in her voice, impressed and a little impressed.

As Yeva admired Eirwen's little project Eirwen and Yule were working on the last piece, making quick work Yule froze the little chipmunk while Eirwen held little clay grotesque arms in place for Yule to freeze attached in various places. Lastly they attached the red hair before turning to Yeva, "this one's...you...I still have to make a little outfit but..." and Eirwen offered Yeva the frozen chipmunk.
There was a twisted little grin on Yeva's face as she took in the sight of the now frozen chipmunk. She could take it and twist it and crush it if she wanted. Could take Eirwen and twist her- She took the chipmunk, head twisting to take in all of the details that Eirwen had added to the critter that now sat in her hands.
"What will the final touch be, Eir?" There was a slight edge, that tipped into something else. "And how should I reward you for it?"

Eirwen felt her heart pick up and raced to the temples, she simply stepped and picked up a box and she removed the lid and pulled from it a small little field mouse. It was her. Dark hair and all. She moved to gently take hers and together she placed them together directly in the center on a little hill.
"always you and me," Eirwen bravely reached out to take her hand but hesitated, afraid actually, but she wanted so badly to push a lock of that red hair behind her ears. To feel how soft it might be, to twist it between her fingers.
"...I don't want anything in return, I just want to make you happy."
If she were anyone else, this whole thing would be more gruesome and gut-turning. But she was Yeva, an Eldouir, and she very much loved the macabre and the gruesome and the nasty. Therefore, it was lovely. Even as the little field mouse joined the chipmunk in the center of it all. The center of their own frozen hellscape.
Her grin widened.
Eirwen was so delightful. She grabbed the hand that hesitated in the air and she was so very tempted to just squeeze. Instead she pulled her closer. "And what if I wanted to reward you anyway."

This was a new, the way Yeva took her hesitant hand and pulled her into her was breathtaking it literally stopped Eirwen from breathing.
'breathe child...and uh...I'll be not here,' Yule could feel this too, it was excitement and desire and something else which he felt was intimate something just between them. Yule chicken hopped out of their space.
Eirwen was still holding her breath staring at all the freckles and Yeva's eyes (they had that same glazed look hers often did), the hand that wasn't being pulled and held found it's way to holding the red heads hip pinching up a handful of Yeva's short....
"....I wouldn't turn anything from you down Yeva Eldouir..." she waited on baited breathing and nervous energy...
