The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Warren watched with bated breath as Othello completed his, admittedly impressive, demonstration and awaited the King's acceptance. His eyes were not on Othello, nor on Cassian, but on Regan. He knew how hard she had worked for this moment and when the king finally began to clap, even he heaved a sigh of relief and joined in the applause.
The promotions were next, and while he cared little for the ceremony of it all, he knew it to be an important part of the tradition. He stepped forward, along with two others he knew, Lieutenant Brekker and Grand Delaney, and formed a short line in front of the King. He bowed his head to the Commander as he approached and then gave a proper bow to the King as he was introduced and recommended for the role of Captain.
He said nothing, his expression giving way to no emotion as usual, while awaiting Hadrian's introduction and recommended promotion of the other two as well. Then they had only to wait for the King's (hopeful) acceptance of their new roles.
Bex stepped forward with only two others and felt the pressure and, admittedly, the pride of the moment. She quite liked those descriptors of herself. Relentless, resourceful, and unyielding. There were rather apt she thought and appreciated that her Commander saw in her those things that she worked so hard for and believed so strongly in.
She had mixed feelings about her upcoming time in Coheed. She was honored by the chance and knew it was an opportunity to continue to make a good impression, but she would have much rather stayed with her people than to go to the barren wasteland with the woman abusers. Regardless, she wouldn't disappoint her Commander nor her King. She stood tall and professional, her face steady and lacking much emotion other than devotion to Nevermere.
It was the Captain part she was most thrilled by. She would be replacing Ellison. The two had gotten rather close during her time serving as Lieutenant and she would miss serving under her, but she was looking forward to the opportunity and challenge that the new role would bring.

Othello Allemeade might have done any goddess-damned thing on Terra Nova and Grant would be impressed. He knew Regan Lassiter was holding the leash, and he had mixed feelings about that. Partially because he helped abduct liberate Othello, and partially because he was still lacking a partner, something he'd been very happy about.
It didn't exactly matter, though, as several others and himself were nominated for promotions. @warren and @bex.
Grant Delaney was honored to be considered for any position at all, really. It showed how much Hadrian Usher had faith in him--doubly so if Grant was correct in hearing Hadrian talk openly about the Ranger program, just there?--and so he was thankful. Control and fealty were the chief values of Nevermere. Of the Delaney family.
He would do his best to be a shining example of Nevermere--of everything good and proper and right on Terra Nova. If nothing else, Grant would do anything in service of the Kingdom. Just as self control was the ultimate expression of Nevermere, self-sacrifice was even stronger. To show that one had mastery over themself and still choose the Kingdom.

Cassian listened and looked as Hadrian presented those to be promoted. A formality indeed, as the king personally knew little of each individual stepping forward, and had no intention of refuting any of it. At the mention of Grant Delaney, his head tilted towards his Right Hand. His expression didn't change, but she knew Cassian well enough to understand the look in his eyes. The pride. They were Grant's achievements, sure, but he was her family, and he had no doubt that she was feeling it, too.
With his full attention restored, Cassian rose from his throne. The black sword at his side was drawn and he, one by one, set the flat of the blade against their shoulders. When he finished the action, he spoke,
"Rise, Captain Woodwick. Sergeant Brekker. Sergeant Delaney." They would rise then, and when they turned to face the crowd of soldiers they would be met with applause.
The procession had reached its end, which would have been fine except that Ber found himself stalled, with the rest of the newer and lower ranked soldiers, on the street leading up to the castle. That also would have been fine - he had no particular interest in listening to whatever speeches the officers were giving - except it meant that he had to stand there, under the weight of a thousand eyes, and awkwardly stare ahead at a castle he saw every day. By now, the novelty of marching in a parade had worn off, the uniform had grown uncomfortable, and he was getting hungry. When a few rounds of applause traveled down the lines of soldiers, the welcome break from the monotony drove him to join in despite having no idea for whom or what they were all clapping. It was all really quite boring.
Later on, when word of the promotions would trickle down through the assembled ranks, there would be a horrified conversation:
“I’m sorry, he’s what now?”
“Captain. Of the unpaired soldiers.”
A long silence, then: “Why.”
“The Captain Commander apparently said something about ‘steadfast service and dedication to excellence’.”
“More like dedication to being a pain in the ass.” A long-suffering sigh. “You know he’s gonna be even worse now, right?” Another wordless noise of distress. “I’ll be surprised if any of us even make it to Dresmond at all.”
As the parade came to the end and promotions was given out, Zarha stood there clapping where needed, staying neutral in expression and feeling. It wasn't her place to have feelings or opinions on the promotions. However, Woodwick being promoted to Captain, he is dedicated to making sure that te soldiers do well, so he deserve it. Clapping is all she could do, she wasn't cheering she just clapped and that all that she was to do.
When they was dismissed Zarha went to do training not really focused on getting something to eat.
Kasper is young enough to fall under the werewolf curse, yet it is dormant. Should the curse be activated his wolf form will be that of a white shaggy fur color keeping his smallness even though he is still rather large for a werewolf. His eyes also retain their green color.

"good on them," Kasper whispered to Faylin and truthfully he was glad for anyone receiving a promotion but if their assignment hadn't been so dreadfully boring and lackluster, he wasn't fully turned in the head just his eyes as he looked over at Faylin, she would have gotten a promotion for sure.
In the big and growing world of Nevermere Kasper had never felt so big and so small at the same time, yeah the people were cheering and screaming their pride for such a well oiled and tuned military that was the big. He felt small because even down here he was just another face poised on the frame of a commoner, still he was fighting (with Faylin) for every inch of honor and respect and soldiers glory...only if one to were look around more and more Van Zants faces dotted the ranks and branches of this fine Military. With Kasper and Kat responsible for the entirety of the Van Zant family and name they broke them out of the mold that the mines were all they got, they didn't need to stay poor and body broken.
Today! (Kasper held his head a little higher and chest swollen, a smirk just teasing the edge of his mouth) Today Kasper told himself that the Delaney's were old news, it wasn't going to be a Delaney at every turn but a Van Zant! Van Zants were the future. Nevermere was the future and the future (he was smiling now as his head roared that inner 3rd person monologue!) looked pretty damn good.

When the king stood, cheers rang out all across Skia. The rainy city of the sea was bright in a way it had never been before. Alive, breathing as one body. Hadrian smiled as he looked out over his soldiers, men and women, and arms ready to serve their kingdom. He drank it in, savoring every detail, knowing that he’d need the vision in the darker days to come.
