[ For @katerina ]
Warren had finally ventured outside of his office for the day. Most of the morning had revolved around meetings, paperwork, and planning schedules and exercises. The second half of the day would be more of a challenge.
Hiems brought along with it the loss of his assistant. Lady Avelina might have been sassy, sarcastic, and sometimes outright disrespectful, but she was good at her job. Now her eighteen name day had arrived, and out of the military she went. Politics called her name, unfortunately, and Warren found himself with a new assistant.
As they walked the grounds, Warren eyed the soldiers. He saw them in the mess hall, the armory, the courtyard, and the peripherals of the grounds. Not long ago the military wing, and Rainecourt Castle in general, had felt quiet. But with all soldiers called back to Nevermere, the sign on bonuses, training new recruits and retraining soldiers who had decided to leave after their mandatory six, everything was much busier. Soldiers were everywhere he looked, so he took note of every exercise. "That one there, Mr. Witmory, put him down as well."
"Sorry, sir...for...for which group?"
Warren sighed, rubbing his eyes. "The possibilities for witch-paired soldiers, Lord Jasper. That's what we spoke of most recently."
"Ah..yeah, right," the kid nodded, taking the note down. "Witmory, got it! Sorry, sir. I'll pick it up quickly."
"I know," Warren said, taking a breath. It wasn't that the kid couldn't get the work done. He was right. In time, he'd figure it out. But Warren didn't have time. "It's alright. That's everyone from this group, let's move on."
They stepped outside, to the outer yards where a large group of soldiers were practicing group exercises. Warren a few yards away, his eyes narrowed with focus, watching. "I need to put Mr. McVann, Lord Nash, and Ms. Ngo through more group exercises. Make a note for me to add that to their schedules, please."
The new assistant wrote that down with a nod, and Warren crossed his arms, still watching.
