The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Today, Regan and Othello wouldn’t be arriving together. He’d likely know she was up to something, ducking out just after breakfast to “set things up.”
They wouldn’t be meeting in the training yard. Regan had commandeered the cleared field that had served them during Ranger training. She figured that for today’s “lesson,” they’d need a little more space—and room for error. Proximity to the castle provided neither of those things, so a change of scenery was called for.
She waited for Othello. When he arrived, he’d see her smirking with her arms crossed, looking infinitely pleased with herself as she stood alongside an assortment of goodies that had been laid out across a blanket. As always, there were two soldiers handy—not so much to guard Othello now as to provide any support Regan might need. They’d stopped feeling the need to stand at attention. Instead, they hung about casually, which Regan allowed.
“Got some new toys for ya,” Regan would say proudly, waving a hand at all the assorted goods across the blanket.

Today was odd for several reasons the most prominent for the Gifted man was Regan exiting breakfast without him, he hadn't even finished his bacon before she scarfed hers down and was gone. Eating alone was weird. Being alone was weird. So he quickly ate his own, grabbed his uniform, and alone once again set off to his destination.
Coming up on a smiling Regan made Othello feel one of two ways, one being fear and the other was how nice a smile made her look, soft perhaps nice but also fear. The usual two accompanying soldiers stood idly back, Othello sometimes still felt their lingering eyes of mistrust, but he knew them well enough now even first names. Casting blue eyes from them to Regan he offered her a smile, "Is this why you scampered so quickly after breakfast?"
He joined her curious blue eyes immediately drawn to the steel battle axe and the large weirdly designed hunk of metal, "All of this...you got it for me? ...I...uh..well," for the second time in his life Othello had been given something from someone and the gesture always seemed to punch him in the little black ticker they called a heart, "what is this?" his interest and wonder was a silent thank you if Regan knew him well, and she seemed to, "the weird shaped thing?"

“Yep. For you. Well, us.” Regan declared, putting her hands on her hips. The brow furrowed when she registered the expression on Othello’s face. Whether he noticed or not, he had softened too. He was…touched? Whatever it was, it was an expression Regan hadn’t yet seen from the Coheedsman, which was something she’d file away for consideration at a later date.
For there was work to be done.
“This…” Regan said with all the glee of a showwoman, “Is a little something we’re going to try out…” She went to it, tilting it so it lay flat before stepping on it. “Put your feet here.” She said, indicating so that Othello would stand on it like a surfboard.

Othello observed what he assumed was stirrups, like those for a horse rider (which he hated, Othe loathed horses) but he did as Regan instructed stepping on the board adjusting his feet into the footholds. They were close, and they basically roomed together, but they were never close enough that Othello felt the warmth of her body, "Seems big enough for the both of us," he observed, she was warm and she had a scent a smell, he couldn't pin it and his head debated if he liked it or not, "what do you want me to do?" he could guess but he'd need her to let him use his gift to try what he thought the board thing was for.

Regan grinned, stepping forward without hesitation. “That’s the idea.” She slipped in front of him like a nesting spoon. She steadied her feet, took a deep breath, and then nodded. “Okay. See if you can lift us.”

His grin marched hers and soon that connection to his gift to the steel beneath his feet erupted, the board lifted easily enough under his control over it but his frame and legs weren't entirely ready as he struggled to balance the board. Hands instantly wrapped around Regan's hips as he fought that mix of physical balance and controlling his gift...but he didn't want to spill them both off...it began to even out under them.

Regan kept her feet steady. She was a little surprised to feel Othello’s hands on her hips, but she didn’t shy away. Seemed silly to cling to propriety when they’d been sharing the same room for weeks. She felt the board lift from the ground and a broad grin spread across her features.
“Alright then. Let’s see what you can do.” There was a touch of apprehension in Regan’s voice as she kept her feet squarely balanced on the board.

The board just hoovered above the ground slightly for the longest time, "er right," he was processing the whole thing in his head, he wasn't afraid or anything because Othello had done something's that had took him very very high into the air (rode on a dragon...his enchanted ship...his great escape from Lorendale) so it wasn't the climbing up that he was stuck on. A small jolt and the board shot forward a little, "okay forward...we want up," then they immediately shot up! Fast! They climbed rather impressively putting a good sixty feet between them and the ground below, "don't want to run into anything right?" he chuckled just as they came to a smoother stop.
"hold on?" and they launched forward! A nervous gut of laughter that carried away with the wind that whipped around them his grip tightened for a bit before let go, he found with his fist clenched out as his sides there was balance.

Regan had experienced a great many thrills in her day, but this one was new to her entirely. There was a lurch of terror in her stomach as Othello directed the board upward and the ground disappeared beneath them. She stiffened against him before reaching a hand to steady herself.
“No, preferably, no.” Regan squeaked. She held on, and away they went. Eventually, Regan’s terror moved into complete, blissful joy. She hollered as she held fast to Othello, letting the gifted work his magic.

This was freedom. Othello chuckled in their speedy flight like a child opening a present and getting exactly what they ask for, he'd had this feeling before when he'd rode on the back of Raine Eldouir in her dragon form very much also in a collar like he was now. It was a blessing how well in control of his gift he was and how nothing much scared Othello Allemeade not heights, the sea, dragons, or men. He did have his fears: loss of freedom and the fiery spirit of a woman currently soaring with him in the skies.
Their forward path was slowly gaining a incline just before whipped the board around using his own strength and his gifted manipulation it turned on the dime then it felt like their was a nothingness to their decline towards where they started... because there was nothing...Othello was using his gift now and was in a free fall of sorts. A grin still on his face. All he could hear was the whipping wind.

Regan might have screamed, but her unbridled joy and the rush of the wind against her face wouldn’t allow it. It was terror and exhilaration all wrapped up into a terrifying euphoria that had Regan grinning from ear to ear. When the board dropped, she yelped, holding on to Othello as her eyes bugged out of her head.
But they didn’t hit the ground. They were weightless, climbing and diving as the world fell away beneath them.

Othello had only saw it once from a window and he wanted to see it from this view, "hold tight," even though she was already Othello casually put a arm around her waist as they propelled up and out again. He went high enough for them to clash with lingering dark clouds until the broke free if one end just above the black sandy beaches that melted with the endless body of water.

Regan squealed, counting on Othello to steady her as they flew out over the water. It grew peaceful then, the waves calm despite the dark storm on the horizon. Her mind when blissfully blank as the cold salt air blew past her face, hair whipping in the wind.
“Yeah…pretty…” Regan murmured, looking out over the black water to the horizon beyond.

"....I don't know what a Champion does after saving those Dresmondi and wiping out those cherries but I figure when I come home I want to go fishing," he chuckled still keeping Regan, the board, and himself steady, "fishing and drinking. Shit faced....you too, all hard work and patience. You deserve it. More than most."

Regan laughed.
“Never been fishing before,” She said, “But the shift-faced part sounds nice.” That Regan had more than a little experience with. The mention of the Dresmond did ignite a small spark of fear. But, like clouds on the distant horizon, she managed to ignore it and take in the shimmering beauty of the water.
