[ Two nights after tribute | Following Bloody Noses and Cracked Crowns | For Hiram Eldouir ]
Xanthe and Savi navigated the dark streets of Elderkeep by way of stumbling legs, groans of pain, and the irritation of twitching muscles. The only thing leading her for most of the way was the faint glow of lanterns that accompanied the outer grounds of the Eldouir estate. They might have been able to use their element, but they thought it best not to. If they ran into any of the soldiers on the way, there was no promise that they'd take her where she wanted to go. They didn't need any more attention on them than they'd attracted by the fire with the fight.
"I don't feel well, Xanthe," Savi said, doing his best to keep up with her. She slowed her pace somewhat. She didn't feel good either. There were pits in her stomach, her chest and head ached, and the adrenaline still had her blood pumping way too quickly - much faster than she could move after the electric shocks she'd received from Taz and Rikki.
I know, but we have to keep moving. We're nearly there. It was difficult to push him to move forward when she herself wanted nothing more than to stop and take a break, but they had no idea what was going to happen back where she'd left Embric, Aine, Kasni, Ermir, and Ciel. The longer it took them, the more chances Taz had to regain her composure, if she could, and the more likely the other soldiers might happen upon them all and do away with Embric and Ermir before she could ever reach her destination.
When they finally broke through the sea of wagons and headed up the path toward the gates of the estate, the guards lifted their hands to stop her. She held her own hands up, shaky as her arms felt, and stood as still as she could manage on trembling legs. "I need to see Hiram Eldouir," she demanded.
"It's the middle of the night. Come back in--"
"No, I need to see him right now. Go wake him, do what you have to do, please. It's urgent. It's about that woman he had with him at tribute. She's hurt...maybe even dying," Xanthe didn't know how else to get his attention. She had no idea if Hiram would even care about Taz, given how her face had looked. But it was the only thing she knew to say. "Please! I need to see him now!"
