The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

Rhedara takes option 2
Rhedara pauses only a moment when she sees the creature and who is fighting it. Instead of helping the trio, she continues on, creeping forward as quietly as she could. If there are any darker shadows for her to sink into to hide from the lantern's light, she will do that.

(Othello is taking option 1)
Othello wasn't the type to wake up so happy, witch magic, he grumbled as he collected his shield again and his axe before continuing. When he saw the first tentacle Othello stopped and surveyed the victim the creature was dragging, the other boy he knew from the excursion in the woods. Fuck. First Othello would let his shield would fly from his arm and fly into the creatures face, hoping to stun the creature. At the same time his axe would always leave his hand violently spinning end over end with intent of slicing the creatures tentacles, but it wouldn't stop there if the creature was surprised by the attack, the axe would under Othello's gift hack cleave and attempt to shred the beast indiscriminately. With the axe and shield combo attempt this left Othello the hopeful freedom to rescue Tor.
Glad that she had illuminated the summoning, it didn't give her a lot lot of time to react. They were tricky things, one of the reasons that she liked them so much. Now it was to her disadvantage though, but Kat wasn't going down without a fight.
Quickly attempting to send another fire incantation at whatever webby thingy was flying towards her, Kat would then try and pulled her knives off her belt if successful.

Octavius had tried to stay in the front, still with his trusty dusty lantern in hand, but Katerina stepped in front of him to spit her incantation. When he saw the way it ripped through the darkness he sure was glad she did.
At the sight of the creature he instinctively positioned himself in front of her—not extremely close, but if the thing started coming at them it would hit him first. He drew his king sword just before the spiderweb came their way. He would attempt to raise his sword, hoping it would slice through the web. If he was successful he’d remain at the ready, doing his best to deflect any additional attacks so that Kat would be left unhindered to cast all sorts of nasty witch magic at it.
Kasper is young enough to fall under the werewolf curse, yet it is dormant. Should the curse be activated his wolf form will be that of a white shaggy fur color keeping his smallness even though he is still rather large for a werewolf. His eyes also retain their green color.

dammit. Kasper couldn't be seen and his feet wouldn't carry on, he could have easily tried to make it past the creature but yet here he was pulling his dual hatchets from the loop in his belt. If that creature charged at Kat and Octavius Kasper would charge and attempt cleave as much as he could into the beast and tell them to run but if Kat's magic did it's just damage he'd hang back invisible.
In the maze, fortune was a wicked mistress. Your luck could turn on a dime, something that @torsten was just finding out. His rescue came in the form of Othello Allemeade , who mightily freed him from the tentacled beast. It squealed, black blood oozing from its detached tentacles before it crumbled into nothingness. Now, both of them would be back in the action, ready to proceed.
2) Continue straight and veer right toward a distant light
3) Take a sharp right through to a snaking path
Turning into the light, @faylin ’s path would be perfectly illuminated. Down a long corridor, she’d see a room beyond, where the maze opened up into something unlike what had come before. But her view and the way ahead would be blocked by a large, damned creature that was stalking the hall. Faylin had not yet been seen, but her options for sneaking were few. The hall was not wide enough to bypass the creature, so there was only one way forward unless she decided to go back and forgo the temptation of the room beyond.
@faylin must fight or flee:
With this beastie, we are entering good, old-fashioned combat narration. Narrate what, if anything, your character does to try to bypass or combat the monster.
Though Faylin’s fight had yet to begin, @katerina , Octavius Wulfbrand , and Kasper Van Zant were grappling with a creature of their own. Kat’s noble partner stepped in front of her, taking the brunt of the creature’s web. Notoriously strong, the spider creature’s silk wouldn’t be easily sliced by a blade. The web would be blocked, by would tangle around Octavius’s blade and upper body.
Though he found himself in a bit of a knot, Octavius Wulfbrand was successful in freeing his partner to unleash her witchcraft on the beast. The scuttling creature scuttled to doge the fire incantation, but shrieked as one of its legs was torn off by the blast. It would reel for a moment before refocusing and lunging toward the group.
Distracted as it was, Kasper Van Zant had still not been spotted by the monster. That was until it started to lunge for the trio and the invisible soldier came forward to hack into it. Kasper would take off another of the creature’s legs while it recoiled with a shriek, indiscriminately spitting webs in Kasper’s general direction.
@berengar would finally be free from the curses’ tickle (though in what state, it was difficult to say). Reoriented to the maze around him, the soldier would see a thorny vine winding around the bend ahead. A rose would bloom enticingly at its end.
@berengar would have three choices:
1) Go toward the rose and see what is beyond the bend to the left
2) Wait where he was to see what happens next
3) Turn back and take his chances elsewhere
Rhedara Shannon would continue straight. Without the lantern that Octavius Wulfbrand held, she would not see the trap that the others had been able to spot. The witch would fall down into the pit, coming to a soft but frustrating landing at the bottom
Rhedara Shannon has failed the saving throw and is out of the tournament.

Faylin came to a full stop as soon as her eyes fell upon the creature. She watched it for a moment, assessing, before quietly swapping out her sword and Naginata again. The things on its back would pose more of a problem than its teeth or claws, and she would need the range of her polearm.
But she wouldn't rely on just her steel. An incantation fell quietly from her tongue, sending forth a giant fireball that filled the hallway wall to wall. She took off in a sprint after the fire, hoping that if it didn't take out the creature, it would at least knock it off its guard and give her the upper hand. She raised her Naginata in front of her, prepared to take a swipe at the appendages on its back.

(Othello is taking option 2)
With the beast gone Othello smiled through gritted teeth as his shield and axe returned to him, "everyone gets one," a clap on the young man's back. Ripping the sleeve of his long shirt off he tied it around his face covering his nose and mouth before moving slowly and cautiously toward his new route toward the light, avoiding darkness was his goal and the snaking path was draining. He used his axe every so many feet to poke and sweep the ground before him, when he wasn't checking the ground blue eyes swept the walls of the maze for any kind of triggers or creatures.

He could feel the black ichor of the creature spray his face and the moment it began to spit more webbing Kasper dived on the ground just behind Octavius hoping it would plaster his twins partner, a sort of barrier. If he avoided the webbing Kasper would quickly climb back to his feet and on the opposite side of Octavius Kasper would cock back with his hatchet and sending it sailing hopefully splitting into the creatures face.
The clap on the back had Tor standing a little taller after his mishap and he said to Othello, "You should've kept going Sir, but thank you. I owe you a life debt."
Torsten looked at the choices and decided to go toward the light, but this time he walked, keeping himself toward the edges of the maze instead of jogging on blindly. But now his priority had changed because of the rescue and he turned his attention to literally guarding the Champion's back instead of winning the maze. His sword in one hand and the flask in the other, Tor followed a few paces behind the blond man.
Kat was, sick of this creature. He had coated her partner in webs, and she wasn't planning on letting this continue. Nope, it was time to use some magic. So while the creature had seemed to focus on an invisible attacker, she pictured the start of the maze.
Kat would open up a portal, attempting to aim under the remaining legs of the spindly creature. If part or all would go through then she would close the portal, not her problem anymore.
When Ber could finally catch his breath, he very quickly became aware of two facts: he was covered in wet mud from collapsing to the ground under the curse’s effects, and the wetness seeping into his pants was too excessive and too warm to be solely from that first observation. Fucking— At least no one had seen, and as Ber climbed to his feet, he checked to find that sitting in the mud had obscured the worst of it. Suddenly, he was even more grateful that he had not rescued Haider from the pit, lest she bear witness to this particular humiliation. It was bad enough that he had to bear witness to his own humiliation.
Darkness. Pit traps. Someone unseen quietly casting curses. If there were curses, there were probably summonings, potions, and incantations as well. He glanced up, squinting, toward the tops of the walls before peering at the walls around him, trying to find if there was any place where a hidden witch could lie in wait until an unsuspecting soldier wandered by - and if he found anything, he noted it and proceeded to keep an eye out for the indicator in the future.
Then Ber turned toward the path ahead. At best, the thorny vines that blossomed into a single rose were highly suspicious. If the vines spread across the floor and the walls such that he would likely come into contact with them, he would take a rock a toss it at a patch of them far from where he stood. He would throw one at the rose, too, in an overall attempt to see if touching or jostling anything would spring some sort of trap or alert some sort of creature. Provided nothing happened, he would carefully sneak ahead, still tossing and retrieving the stones and wary of other traps. Like before, he would pause to look around the corner to gauge safety, eyes and ears peeled for signs of danger or trouble.

Octavius struggled against the web, like a small man trying to escape the clutches of a larger one, he grunted and twisted, clumsily waving his sword, his objective to free himself and then it of the webs.
If successful, he’d remain where he was, standing at the ready, sword still held before him. He knew better than to get in the way of a witch’s incantation.
Teamwork makes the dream work—or at least, it saved @torsten from elimination from the tournament. Othello Allemeade ’s helping hand brought the soldier back from the brink and allowed them both to continue unhindered by the monster. They’d weave along, their path unobstructed until…they would hear a distant noise. A shriek down a path to their left. To the right was a quieter path, but one that would most certainly send them, at least for a stretch, back the way they came.
Elsewhere in the maze, @faylin was playing a careful game, and the odds were ever in her favor. The creature spotted her just as a blast of fire ripped down the straightaway, knocking it back into the room beyond. It was far enough away that its failing tentacles couldn’t hope to reach its attacker. It was now very much on fire, shrieking and rocketing around the room in a destructive blind rage.
Faylin would see them then: three flags in the center of the room. The center one was on a high pedestal, a large banner of Nevermerean navy. The other two flags were smaller and silver, embroidered with blue, one on a lower pedestal and the third on ground level. First, second, and third place: clearly, Faylin was the first to reach the center.
Her objective in sight, @faylin has two choices:
1) Enter the room and focus first on killing the creature
2) Ignore the creature and make a mad dash for the flag
@katerina ’s hidden ability handily dealt with the spider creature. It disappeared, swallowed up by the black void which slammed shut behind it. The power was cause for raised eyebrows from the witches on the walls. They’d never seen such a thing before. How was it possible?
Whatever dark magic this was, it was effective in neutralizing the threat. Kasper Van Zant , having ducked behind Octavius Wulfbrand was spared the sticky web. His hatchet was still lodged in the creature and now in another dimension, which was a bummer. But no matter. More axes where that came from. Octavius Wulfbrand had almost freed himself from the webs but would benefit from a little help from his friends.
There was a moment of silence after the creature disappeared—everything going still. That silence was broken when a loud shriek echoed down the maze hall, followed by sounds of general mayhem. The sound wasn’t far. It was just beyond the bend.
1) Help Octavius free himself and then continue on their path forward
2) Carry on toward the source of the shrieking noise
3) Double back, putting distance between themselves and the noise.
@berengar was right to be suspicious. Certainly, nothing in the maze so far had proved to be what it seemed. His stone would not hit the rose but land nearby, skipping a little ways across the ground. There was a moment of stillness before a horrific creature burst into view. Its roaring maw dropped down to Ber’s level and bellowed.
@berengar must fight or flee:

(Othello is taking option 2)
The shrieking noise immediately gave Othello his answer, "fuck no," he chuckled shaking his head as Tor followed. The other choice however wasn't much better with it being darker but a lantern burned above the second path and it lifted itself free from the holder and floated down to him where it hoovered just above the pair. Othello once again cautiously entered the second path but not before sending his shield before him low to sweep for traps.
