The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

Another little nasty creature, if it wanted his shield Othello was going to feed it to the damn beast, instinctively the axe would tear from the grip Tor had on it coming to it's master but not before it would attempt to sever that beasts whipping tail! Jumping from the shield it would zip right at the creatures face brutally and with no regard to the things feelings and wouldn't stop smashing the things face until IT knocked it away. A fit of laughter escaped Othello, the steel bracers on Othello's wrists and ankles were manipulated to suspend Othello in the air, if the axe had hit it's mark it would be in his hand just as Othello came down hoping to split the creature in half!
She reached the pedestal just in time to see the hand appear out of a small portal and snatch her first place prize. After a few expletives that no one ever heard uttered by a noble lady, Faylin reached over and grabbed the second place flag.
If Kasper continued his trek and ended up beside her, she would attempt to reach over and grab the third flag to shove into his hands. While she waited for him to arrive, she would let the curse on Kat end.
Kat would have grinned and laughed as she felt her fingers close around the flag, but all of a sudden the smile was frozen on her face. Her eyes flicked up and she saw the only other witch in the room. Bitch She would have shouted it but alas, the insult remained in her head. Unable to do anything but stand there, the soldier suddenly felt someone touch her. If they even tried…
But it was her partner, her wolf, Octavius. If she wasn’t frozen she might, just maybe, have given him a hug. But instead she waited, hoping that when the last flag was pulled it would be the end of this dumb ass curse. Rude. All she could do was hold open the portal in hopes that Octavius could grab one for himself and then pull them both out.
Kat will attempt to hold the portal open until Octavius gets a chance to grab at a flag and they are both safely out.
Ber is trying to get the monster to attack Kasper so that he can get past the creature and enter the room. If successful, he will attempt to sprint for the flags himself.
Slowly, he was making progress. The monster moved into the room with the flags like Ber had wanted, but it still stood in his way. Gritting his teeth in frustration, he glanced past it to see the other contestants in varying proximity to the pedestal. One witch he didn’t recognize was practically on top of the pedestal - too late - but he recognized Van Zant opposite her, further away. Taking advantage of the monster’s distraction, he would quietly move to get as clear a shot as he could and try to throw a few rocks at him in rapid succession. An attempt to direct the monster’s attention at Van Zant specifically, the rocks were intended to hit him - to make him cry out more than cause injury - but if they landed around him instead of making contact, the noise they would make meant it would hardly be a loss. Ber would then attempt to quietly move into the room and put some distance between himself. If the monster was focused on Van Zant, he would try to make a mad dash for the pedestal, attempting to dodge or defend himself from any vines as he did so.
Kasper is young enough to fall under the werewolf curse, yet it is dormant. Should the curse be activated his wolf form will be that of a white shaggy fur color keeping his smallness even though he is still rather large for a werewolf. His eyes also retain their green color.

With the creature entering the field of play and Faylin acquiring second place Kasper had to lock down to his fastest speed ever. He was zigging and zagging right for Faylin his hand stretched out so at the last second he could leap forward into a tuck and roll dive to grab the flag in her hand...

Having successfully helped his frozen partner is retrieving her flag, Octavius' next and immediate action would be to go for the next closest flag at hand.
"Bitch." He muttered in regards to Faylin freezing Katerina--they spent too much time together. If Faylin managed to grab the flag at the same time as him, a tug of war match would ensue, one the stronger man wasn't afraid to win, even if it meant pulling the other woman through the portal and onto himself and his frozen pair. If she reached it first, fair and square, he'd dive right through the portal, coming in at a clumsy roll atop the pedastals, and attempt to secure the third flag.
The rose monster, now fully inside the room, started to spread its vines out to detect its assailant. As skilled of a rock thrower @berengar might be, both the obstruction of the monster and the distance between him and his target were enough to make the rocks ricochet in random directions. This did add to the creature’s confusion. It spread more thorny vines, seeking to wrap itself around anyone it encountered.
@faylin would, unfortunately, be the closest.
The creature’s thorny vines would start to ensnare her just as she snatched the second-place flag. Kasper Van Zant leapt with abandon, snagging the flag from her hand just as the thorn monster started to drag Faylin away.
Octavius Wulfbrand would, unobstructed, would be able to secure the third flag before being quickly snatched up by the rose monster. @berengar would watch from just outside the room as the last flag was snatched away and the soldiers were wrapped up in the vines. Everything was overgrown with green, until….
A loud trumpet sounded from atop the wall. The rose monster started to shrivel up, disintegrating until it crumbled away.
Othello Allemeade ’s flying axe would easily slice through the creature that burst in an explosion of gore and intestines. @torsten ’s valiant efforts would find him torso-deep in the water as it started to turn black with the creature’s blood. There would be a breath of silence before they too would hear the trumpet. The final results were in:
And with that, the tournament was over. The remaining contestants would be guided from the maze by flaming bat-like creatures that lit their way. Some would leave in victory, others in shame, others with the knowledge that they’d done themselves and their kingdom proud.
POSTING NOTES
- You are encouraged to do a final post of your character's reaction, but it is not required!
As long as Falyin released her from the curse, Kat would follow the ushering creatures, otherwise she would have to be carried out. But either way she had the flag in her hand, and she could see one in her brothers and in Tavi's hand. Perfect. Even better that Faylin didn't who she would stick her tongue out at if able, otherwise she would be content with her partner having sworn at her already.
And while she didn't want to admit it, she should probably thank Tavi. But she'd deal with that later, for now she had to think about what she wanted as a prize.

Octavius could hardly believe it. He had only participated because it was expected of him, and he would have been content with only Katerina winning. But, well , when presented with opportunity he had struck, and came out on top. Third…but that was still something. He was a little irritated that Kat’s leech of a brother had managed to hide in their shadows and pull a second place win, but it was no matter. To see the first place flag in Kat’s hand was victory for Octavius, too.
He was smiling as the thorny creature claimed him, and in the aftermath there was nothing that could shake his goofy grin.

It was over the trumpets played loudly, Othello would clap his new friend on the back aggressively but in brotherhood laughing as black goo ran down his face. In games there was always winners and losers, Othello didn't care for all of that as he followed the bats.
"good job today guy," and with his new friend he exited the games head high.
Torsten, for the first time in public since he was a child, laughed loudly. He was covered in black ichor, soaked to the bone, but man that was awesome! He smiled at Othello and this time, stood squarely for that 'gentle pat' on the back.
"You killed a monster, so damn well done, man!" he answered happily. He might not have won a prize, but he'd had a great time anyway. The Champion was alright in his book. Tor left the maze with his chin up and a smile on his face, walking proudly beside his new friend.

With some satisfaction, Ber watched as his plot with the monster worked, but it was too little, too late. A trumpet sounded and the creature that had given him so much trouble disintegrated into nothing, just like that. He looked over at the three victors, two of which were nowhere near the pedestal despite having somehow claimed flags for themselves. To be so close, and yet— Even if there wasn’t anything he thought he could’ve done better, the disappointment still stung. A request for anything from the king. How often did a nobody like him get a shot at something like that? Once in a lifetime, maybe, and that had just been his.
As the adrenaline rush gave way to an unsatisfying silence, Ber rubbed a hand over his face and took a deep breath. Right. Whatever. This was hardly the first time he’d gotten close to success only to lose at the very end. He knew how to weather failure, and really, because any sort of change was predicated on victory, everything was the same as it had been when he’d walked into the maze. It would be fine. He would just keep doing what he’d been doing. It wasn’t the end of the world; it just… would’ve been nice to have received anything he asked for. Ber took another deep breath, then a third, as he began to follow the glowing bats. He would feel better once he’d gotten out of this maze and found something to drink.
And, he remembered with a grimace, changed into clean pants.

Still invisible Zarha didn't stay behind long enough to see who won, so still invisible went to the barracks before she just sat there for a while unable to be seen by anybody who walked in. Why can't she learn to slow down? She felt disappointed in herself.

Kasper stood dumbfounded for the longest time, flag in hand and one second Faylin was there then she wasn't, pulled away from her win. It wasn't until the sound of the horn that pulled him back, he spun looking for Faylin mouth dry and heart pounding...he was happy for Kat and for her partner Octavius even if his win was also leeched off Kat's little portal trick....he gripped the flag tight before smiling at his twin. First and second belonged to the Van Zants, not a Delaney or Morrigan but two street thought of as good for nothing street kids.
It would seem her attention had been too focused on the flags as her feet were ripped out from underneath her. Now shouting whatever expletives came to mind, she reach for her sword to slash the vines off of her, but before she could bother they disintegrated into nothing.
She didn't need to look to know there were no more flags left. She stood and brushed herself off, finally lifting her eyes to the pedestals. Well, at least Kasper had won. She caught the tongue @katerina stuck out at her, and after a beat raised her middle finger at her, imitating something she had seen Kasper do time and time again.
