When she suddenly embraced him, he held is arms out slightly above her, freezing in place awkwardly. Nobility weren't the kind to display such affections outside of immediately family, and even then, more often than not the only people who embraced him were the youngest of his nieces and nephews. The older kids had gotten too 'cool' to hug their uncle.
When she pulled away and apologized, he released the breath he'd been holding and nodded once to acknowledge her. He straightened his jacket, noting the slightly damp splotch from her hair, and looked to the boy, and then upward when she said her siblings would be upstairs. "I cannot say that the younger children will be allowed in the castle. If the woman caring for them now is someone you trust, we can have her moved to somewhere safer for the moment. An Inn somewhere, perhaps. I'll handle the cost until this is sorted, but let me make something clear, Ms. Sliva."
He laced his hands together in front of him, his voice stern. "I am agreeing to help you because it equally benefits me. I've been investigating certain crimes in Skia as of late, and your mother and fathers involvement could lead me to some answers. Not only is this improper, but a military official should not be getting involved in the lives of their subordinates. Should any more trouble be caused outside of this investigation, I will wash my hands of it and you will be left to deal with your troubles on your own. I am sympathetic to your plight, but I have my limits."
With that said, he motioned around the house. "I suggest you pack up anything you need for the time being to take with you to the castle. Neither you or any of your siblings should return to this house until your parents have been imprisoned. Bring the children along as well, we'll get them set up in an inn on the way. I'll step outside and wait for you."
With that, he exited the house and closed the door behind him, then opened his umbrella and waited in the rain for them to get ready.
