The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Magic Detection: The ability to detect magic. The user can judge magical aptitude, pinpoint magic being used within a mile vicinity, and even detect when potent magic has formerly been used in a space. The magic may originate from a living thing or from an object, it does not matter. There is no restriction to the kind of magic that the user can detect. The weakness is the spatial awareness limitation, and while the user can detect the presence of magic, they cannot detect the specific kind of magic being used.

Even though Florina had just met Scout Kane, she wasn’t going to be so rude as to refuse an invitation. It was a time to deepen friendships and to see who was allies—if not friends- with who.
The sight of the children had Florina smiling as she squashed down the bittersweet feelings swelling in her breast. Some nobles found it distasteful to include children in celebrations, and she was glad to see that the Lady Steward was not one of them. Weddings brought families together, and it was only fitting that children also witness such happy occasions.
The sight of the king (Cassian Rainecourt) at the reception would have had her gaping had she not been taught to keep her emotions in check. The king himself being in attendance was a great honor and she was sure it would be talked about for months.
Se would need to remember to greet the King later.
She found Scout and her husband in the middle of the room, a familiar blond man (Anslem Ellery) already speaking with them. She would wait quietly for him to finish his own well-wishes before she approached the couple and curtsied before speaking.
“Congratulations to both of you on this happy day. Such a beautiful day for a wedding,” she smiled sweetly at her new acquaintance as she presented her gift. Florina had sent for two crates of the finest wine that had been brewed at her vineyard. She had her maid send all but one to the kitchen. Florina currently held the remaining bottle which was tastefully wrapped up with a pretty bow, “One of many,” Florina said as she presented it to the couple.

Remiel had been invited by @astor to the wedding, he wasn't sure how the high and mighty Scout Kane would take it but that didn't matter because Remi was already there. He had gotten them a simple little gift which had been left with all the other wedding gifts and as much as he wanted to congratulate them both the rush of people kept Remi rooted, even more so when he saw Cassian Rainecourt and his guard the latter of which he didn't mind she had been kind enough.
It was seeing Tybalt Zane when Remi decided to uproot from where he stood and he made his way over to the new Commander (it was a little itch in the back of his head that after the attacks Tybalt had got a promotion while Remiel was stripped of his job), "Commander Zane, congratulations," he extended a hand to Tybalt he wasn't that miffed about the other man's success because Remi had a lot of respect for Tybalt, they hadn't spoken since after the attacks but Tybalt wasn't mistrusted as Remiel had seemingly become over the one day.

Cassian dipped his head at Scout Kane and her warm reception of him.
"Congratulations." He murmured to her, not engaging in conversation so as not to keep her occupied. She was, after all, the belle of this ball. He steered Cass along a bit to get them away from the new couple, away from the center of the attention. Cassian would actually have been a wall flower had circumstance allowed him. As it was, it was inevitable that another noble approached him, and he began quietly conversing with the man about politics, as usual.
Arynnite armor: The armor have two states: active and inactive. When inactive, they look like little more than ornate metal bracers, easily ignored. When triggered, the armor covers Tybalt and serves as an exoskeleton. It will protect its wearer from physical damage and is practically indestructible.
The armor has a certain "preprogrammed" purpose which is to protect its host. To do so, it reacts to heightened emotional states such as fear and anger, at which point the armor will trigger regardless of whether or not Tybalt wants it to or even if he's immediately aware of the threat. It has some degree of awareness and sentience although very basic and one which struggles to differentiate between enemies and friends. Whilst not actually in possession of a will, the armor can guide or direct its host in a specific action, much like a reflex.
The armor needs to be "fed" as Tybalt has discovered meaning that he must hold and absorb through touch certain metals such as steel, copper, iron and tin, a process which takes a few minutes. Without which, the armor will begin to weaken and become less effective until no longer able to manifest.
Perhaps its greatest weakness is that if being consistently bashed or beaten, it would begin to repair itself by using parts of the armor from elsewhere. For instance, if the wearer is being consistently hit in the chest, the armor will begin to pool away from other parts of their body such as the feet and hands, leaving them vulnerable.

Tybalt was content to sit back and relax for a little while. In the space of a few moments, a strange feeling took hold of him. There was the sudden realization that his little niece was getting married. This would be her embarking on a new stage of her life. He was proud, most certainly but equally, there was an odd sensation in the pit of his stomach. He was feeling it increasingly these days, every time Tobey surprised him, Trinity's growing confidence or Thaddius' steadily increasing vocabulary were the usual culprits...
The man was stirred from his thoughts by the arrival of a face he was somewhat surprised to see. Remiel was a figure of some shame for Tybalt. The man shouldn't have been stripped of his position. Granted, he could have handled the situation a bit better... But equally he had saved their lives. Something would have to be done about it and now, the commander was reminded that he had the power to do so.
"Feeling old..." The man couldn't help but note with a wistful smile. "I remember when she was only knee high playing with wooden swords. Now, she's getting married."

Being near young Cass and Cassian at the same time made her edgy. It was like her attention was torn in two places when usually it was so incredibly clear where it needed to be. Regan never thought she was one with maternal instincts, but she supposed that she was wrong. For surely that’s what this was. Some misplaced need to protect what wasn’t hers.
So, though Regan guarded Cassian, she did so in silence and at a respectable distance. Her eyes remained decidedly fixed on Cassian, though she did smirk as the precocious child delivered his little speech.

Remi couldn't imagine what Tybalt described about Scout Kane but he faked a smile nodding simply in understanding about Tybalt reminiscing. Remi had been surprised by who Scout was marrying, @astor, a man with whom Remi was good friends with. Two opposites that was for sure.
"She lucked up if you ask me, Astor is a good person I'd vouch for him," for however far that would go these days, still he steered away from that, "You don't look a day over forty honestly Commander," Remi joked, "but I'm fine, been working on getting the farm back up."

Annabeth smiled at Scout Kane "just breath, you are doing great. Just stick to white wine though, red is so hard to get out of a white dress." She smiled as she hugged her new cousin-in-law. It is strange that they were in a way family. She then watched the interaction between her and her sons. It was truly adorable and she was living for it.
Ronan gave Scout a wide smile when she complimented his picture. "Thank you I will." He than ran off to place it on the table which of course made Annabeth laugh slightly. Arturo followed his brother at a calmer pace. They look the same but she could tell which one is which b their personality right away.
As she looked around she noticed Remiel Allemeade talking to Tybalt Zane and she walked over to the familar man. It is strange that they are in-laws now. "I hope I am not intruding, but I would like to thank you Marquis Kane for allowing me and Astor's sister to come. I promise my cousin he not like the rest of them" She knew that those two were the only family members that were allowed to come to the wedding.

Augustus was happy to attend Scout Kane’s wedding. He didn’t know @astor personally, but he hoped that he deserved the bright woman on his arm. The prince had grown rather fond of Lady Kane, regarding her with something between fatherly affection and professional admiration. She was a credit to her kingdom; a true woman of Lorendale, something that was rare and worthy of recognition.
Augustus arrived after Cassian Rainecourt. The prince’s eyes lingered for a moment on the king before he turned his attention to the happy couple. He had brought his two eldest sons with him, each polished and looking every bit the gentlemen Augustus hoped they would become. They dutifully followed their father as he approached Scout Kane and @astor.
“My lady,” Augustus said, seeking to kiss her hand and exuding infectious mirth befitting the celebration, “You are a vision, as to be expected.” He turned his eyes to Astor, a mischievous sparkle twinkling in their blue depths. “I hope you deserve her, young man. Though I’ve learned Lady Kane is quite the good judge of character, so…”
There was so much to take in. Gifts, people congratulating them, and all Astor could do was smile. He was surrounded by friends, this was one of his best days ever. Maybe he should get married more often because this was great. Maybe just throw some more parties now that he was out of his father's shadow. That would be fun.
But in the meantime he had to focus on the now. Thanking everyone who came up to them. Shaking hands with the other lords, bowing to the king, shaking hands with the prince, wait a second...
Was that? "REGAN!?" It seemed like ages since he had seen Regan Lassiter that one time, but like the golden retriever he was, Astor was excited that she had come. Not even thinking about the fact that she was in fact on duty.
Post by Regan Lassiter on Mar 21, 2023 17:17:05 GMT -5
@astor’s exclamation caught Regan by surprise. Her eyes darted between him and Cassian Rainecourt, unsure just what to do. Regan wasn’t here as a guest. She was to be seen and not heard, a role she was more than happy to play. She smiled awkwardly, glad but uncomfortable as Astor bounced toward her.
“Uh,” Regan said in a low voice, “Hey, long time no see.” Her eyes darted to Cassian once again before going back to Astor.

Weddings were far more exhausting than she had expected. But with a smile plastered on her face and with good manners, she thanked everyone who came over to greet and congratulate her and Astor. She put in even more effort in being nice and polite when Anslem Ellery came over. The last time they saw each other, she had offended him. Scout curtsied when he approached her. "Thank you, lord Ellery. She looked at the parchment he handed over and brought a hand to her mouth in surprise. "My lord", she said before looking up at him from the parchment. "This is an absolutely beautiful gift. Words can't describe how thankful I am." Thinking about how she would best react, she curtsied again. She started to realise that she had forgotten about a lot of her upbringing. If she could have chosen, she would have hugged the man, but instead she decided to keep it formal and polite. "I hope you enjoy yourself at the wedding." With that, she would have to move again. More people wanted her attention.
Florina Bellerose was the next guest to approach her. Scout returned the curtsy with one of her own doing and smiled at the woman. "Lady Bellerose, I'm happy and honoured you're here. Thank you for the gift. I'll cherish the wine and think of your kindness when we eventually drink it."
And on she went, for Augustus Rainecourt was next to congratulate her. He kissed her hand and she greeted him by, you guessed it, bopping a curtsy to him. "Thank you, your highness. I must day this dress is a nice chance of pace." She chuckled lightly. People were always surprised to see what she looked like all dressed up, because most of the time she was just wearing her usual outfit, pants and a blouse.
Soon after Astor had shaken the prince's hand, he yelled out for someone Scout didn't know. She saw how he went over to the king's guard and talk to her. A feeling came over her. What was this feeling? Jealousy? The guard was a very pretty woman. The blonde shook off the feeling and turned back to the prince. "Is your wife also present?" she asked, curiously. She hadn't met his wife yet, but knew she was Florina Bellerose's aunt.

Count Ellery soon found himself about to go in search of a drink when he saw the most beautiful woman standing there so close by. Anslem bowed elegantly and genuinely smiled at her,
"Countess Bellerose. Such a delightful surprise to see you again-and looking quite lovely as always."
A passing waiter paused and offered drinks to each of them and Anslem accepted, smoothly taking the champagne glass in a white gloved hand. His blue eyes admired the elegant Lady before him and he couldn't hide the expression for long. Her dark hair arranged in luxurious curls and adorned in glittering jewels, Countess Florina Bellerose was an exquisite example of feminine refinement and beauty. After what was only a brief moment, Anslem recollected his composure and said,
"You're looking positively stunning this evening My Lady!" he walked beside her to stand near a column and be courteously out of the way of people walking to the happy newly married couple to give their congratulations. It would be quite rude to block the receiving line, and the Count was well aware of it.
Well dressed servers circulated with finger foods among the champagne and snippets of conversation were volleying from the corners in carefully voiced whispers of the latest hot gossip. Count Ellery made a conscious move of turning his back on them and focused solely only on Florina Bellerose instead.

To be clear, Astor didn’t bound anywhere, he stayed next to his new wife. He wasn’t actually a bounding dog, but did wave at Regan Lassiter in an excited fashion. He was not about to leave Scout Kane to fend for herself. This was going to be a long afternoon but they were going to get through it together.
And he of course had by now realized that Regan was in fact with the King and was in fact the King’s guard. Whoops. ”Im great!” Reaching over to Scout’s hand he would squeeze it unless she pulled away.
Looking back to Augustus Rainecourt , he kept his goofy smile. ”Usual fashion or not you look beautiful as always.” That’s something a madly in love man said to his new wife right? It was very weird trying to be something he wasn’t, but he at least found it easy to compliment his friend.

Florina smile at Scout Kane and offered one last curtsy before leaving the line herself, not wishing to obstruct the people behind her. She was already away from the line by the time her uncle by marriage (Augustus Rainecourt) approached scout, so she had not spotted him or her two cousins yet.
She hadn’t gone far when she heard a familiar voice call out to her. She turned and saw Anslem Ellery. She offered him a polite smile that turned a little warmer at his compliment. A blind woman could see his interest in her, and she would be lying to herself if the attention didn’t please her a little bit, even through an unease that had become more reflex than true trepidation, “Thank you, Count Ellery,” she gave him a pretty curtsy, “It’s a pleasure to see you again as well. I trust you have been well since I saw you last?”
She also took a glass of champagne from the waiter, but she did not sip from the glass yet, though she wondered how it compared to the spirits brewed at her own vineyard.
She followed him when he lead them a little further away from the receiving line and his second compliment to her beauty had her cheeks turning a light shade of pink, “You’re too kind, my lord,” She cast her eyes to the ground shyly before meeting his eyes again. She thought she should compliment him too, but could not think of anything to say that did not seem insincere or too brazen.

Augustus chuckled, blue eyes still dancing. At the mention of his wife, an almost imperceptible ripple of annoyance crossed his features. Phaedra Rainecourt-Marx was not yet with them—perhaps she would be, perhaps she wouldn’t.
“She’ll be along, Lady Kane. My wife certainly keeps busy; she’s quite the woman.” The love in hsi voice was enough to be believed, but not felt.
