Rhedara Shannon
Raff decided to spend the first bit of his sign on bonus with a large meal and all night drinks at the tavern. He figured he could either browse the fresh meat here or go to the brothel just around the corner if that didn't pan out. He sat back in the farthest corner, where it was a long bench with a few tables in front of them so they could pack more butts in the seats. It was also a great vantage point to see anyone and everyone who entered, but strategically left him a backdoor opening directly to the kitchen door behind the bar.
A mounded platter of assorted meats before him and an enormous pint of beer beside his hand, had Raff feeling pretty good. There was a lot of new faces around the barracks and he wasn't the only one who'd jumped at the sudden money incentive. Granted, he wasn't a paired soldier anymore nor was he ever going to see Merk alive again, but at least he could have a full stomach and a steady place to sleep. The only downsides to that were far more labor than he'd ever want to do and getting packed in with large noisy, smelly crowds drilling the same stupid shit over and over. It had been nearly a decade since his first training and if there was one thing he didn't want, was to repeat it all.
Fortunately for him, they weren't quite sure what to do with someone who'd been previously paired for so long after a year long hiatus. So they gave shit jobs to pass the long hours. No brain required, just an idiot who's strength was silently yoked, like any other stupid male soldier. It had its downside though too. Raff knew he was different from the ones who hadn't had the Curse released. The excruciating agony and all consuming bonding was non existent and totally dormant within them. A ticking time-bomb that was just waiting to go off. Maybe it was for the best that they didn't know. Absently he considered getting a date for the upcoming ball. Whoever he picked, she'd have to be better than average if he planned to spend a whole formal event with her.
With a large lazy hand, he ate the food in front of him and watched the small tavern gradually fill up before he'd realized it. The increased noise and smells were an insult to his senses, but he tuned it out, his blue eyes roaming the ever increasing crowd. A sleek looking brunette with dark curls and legs for days, walked in and his gaze rested on her for several minutes. Oh she smelled damn good. Mmhmm..fresh meat...
