The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
@elletta How the hell was he supposed to do this? His sister Cady was turning fourteen and she desperately needed clothes. But what do chicks wanna wear? Raff wasn't a damn seamstress and they sure as hell weren't rich. He had the sign on bonus but the idea of walking his six foot self into a Ladies' dress shop was just flat out weird. And wrong. And really awkwardly weird.
He paced in front of the store some more, unsure of exactly what to do. "I miss ma." Raff muttered under his breath and tried to think of what he could say to some snooty shopkeep about a dress for a little girl. They'd think he was a creep. Or a liar. Or both. He lifted both hands to shove the hair back and rubbed his face vigorously. Ok it's just a chick's dress shop, no big deal right? Raff paced as he scratched absently at his beard lost in thought. Maybe if he could find a chick that's already going in there, he could ask her help? Yea, that sounded sketchy even to him, even if it was the truth.
"Cady you better love this fuckin birthday present." he murmured again, his voice low enough to growl his frustration. A stunning honey eyed woman came walking into view and he stopped pacing to smile at her.
"Hey there."

Elletta was feeling a little frazzled. There was a ball for the soldiers which meant wearing a dress, and she didn't have a dress so she had to go shopping for one. Which was not something she normally did. Not for a formal dress anyway and the few times she did wear a dress? Well, she wasn't normally out in the public since it was usually for cleaning day around her little shack, since it needed a good cleaning when she'd returned to it.
But she was in a plainer blue and brown frock now since it was easier to layer to stay warm in the hiems weather with slim breeches underneath. Skirts were damn fine for keeping the warmth around her legs whenever the wind would kick up, though it seemed to be pretty calm today. Still she pulled the wool scarf a little closer as she approached yet another shop. Goddess be, she hoped she would finally find something here.
She'd entirely missed the fact that there was a man outside the shop until he spoke. "Oh, er. Hi." How she'd missed him, she had no idea. "Can I's help you?" Elletta might not look like a soldier right now but she still carried herself like one even out of uniform.
"I'm hopin ya can help me. I got a problem with trying to pick out a dress for my lil sister Cady. It's her fourteenth birthday and I have no idea what chicks that age wear so I--"
A young girl with long brown hair the exact same shade as Raff's, came barreling around the corner at full pelt and threw her arms around his waist to hug him and looked up at him with big brown eyes.
"Ewan ripped the head off ma doll and Brent and Alan are playing keep away wif it!"
"What'd I tell ya 'bout snitchin so much?" "Snitches don't get new britches..." "That's right. Now go smack Ewan and remind him he's shorter than you." "Are ya buyin me a--" "I ain't buyin anyone a damn thing if they're yappin at me instead of doin what their told. Go Cady. Now!"
With an impish grin and a big smile she ran away shouting her head off at her brothers, her voice heard up and down the street long after her foot steps were gone.
"Fuck. I'm sorry, she's uh. That's the birthday brat I need to find a dress for and I could really use a girl's help on this." Raff tugged up a corner of his mouth in an embarrassed grin.
"Help me. Please?" Raff held out both hands in an honest appeal for assistance.

Elletta went from confused to amused as she watched the apparent siblings go back and forth before the girl ran off. If it tripped up something bittersweet in her throat that there was genuine and obvious affection between them, well, that was no one's business but her own and she was pretty good at tamping it down so no one ever saw her thoughts about it.
"Well, I reckon I might can help ya out." She shifted, posture more relaxed than it had been moments ago. "M'name's Elletta, by the way."
"Thanks Elletta, I'm Raff. Nice ta meetcha." He put out his left hand to shake and smiled at her.
"I know Cady needs some britches under the dress, but other than that, I don't know where to start." He said, walking beside her toward the store and ducked his head under the arch.
"She just needs something new and not patched like a quilt. Sturdy but I dunno what, coz she wants something that's pretty too. That's where I'm stuck. I've dealt with buying all the other stuff just fine, but a pretty dress for a fourteen year old girl? I got no clue on that."
His blue eyes looked over her clothes, taking in the details.
"What yer wearin looks alright ta me. You were fourteen once, so what do ya think Cady might like?"
The six foot tall shaggy guy looked around him in stunned amazement. Laces, frills, pinks, tulle, yard of satin and silk draped across every square inch of the perfume infused room with pretty flowers and the shop was filled with small groups of ladies that suddenly stopped talking all at once.
Elletta had to resist the urge to grimace because at fourteen she was more focused on her training as a soldier. She hadn't cared about dresses or anything like that. There was a lot she hadn't been very worried about and definitely didn't have the money for much.
Still, she looked around the shop and thought about the girls who she was in training with. "Nice to meet ya, Raff. She got any colors she likes more'n others?"
There was just too much to look at in such a crowded space and he could feel the many pairs of eyes boring into him that a man had broached the sanctity of such a feminine place.
"She likes uh... blue and green, I know that. But Cady fights tough as any guy so I don't think she'd want lace or nothin like that."
Awkward. He was still slightly hungover and absently he scratched at his beard, trying to think which one of these would be best. Elletta seemed as ill at ease in the place as Raff did so his doubts tripled.
"I can git boy's britches at the tailor's easy and she sews 'em to fit. At least that part's easy." He stepped aside carefully to let a fancy Lady and her chaperone pass by with their noses in the air, looking like they were walking by a steaming dog pile.
After a lot of work and no little amount of crazy, he finally got the dress he needed for Cady's present.
