"That's mostly true. I don't think Warren is snobby per se, but he does keep up a strong distance between himself and others--excepting the King's Huntsman of course." Tor didn't even finish the rest of that comment in his thoughts. Maybe he shouldn't even have said as much as he had out loud. There were some things that simply needed to stay silent. Now he wished he hadn't been so free with his mouth and his thoughts. But Shannon reminded him so much of Nora that it was exactly like talking with his sister again. She'd never scolded him for not speaking or acting perfectly and had always encouraged him to speak out instead of standing by and letting bad things happen.
"Maybe, maybe not. You were being stupidly bullied, not trained, so you lashed out defensively in temper. No one likes a bully or to be bullied. My sister always said to stand up for yourself and others against a bully. While I agree strongly," he paused to look down at Shannon sternly, "..that you shouldn't be cursing anyone for any reason, he did need to be confronted and stopped immediately for excessive, ego-driven behavior like that. You're very brave for a new recruit."
The whole incident was a subject that was impossible to ignore, all things considered. Tor looked around and lowered his voice to a whisper before he ventured another opinion.
"The biggest part of the problem is that as just lowly soldiers, we can't even call out a ranked soldier despite blatant bullying. While the cursing was wrong, you just wanted to defend yourself against obvious unfair treatment by some guy's higher ranked ego."
There. Torsten had said it out loud. Quietly. Just like when he and Nora would talk for hours. His dark eyes watched Miss Shannon's face worriedly to see her reaction at his thoughts put to bluntly honest words.
