The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
As the party resumed its tumultuous merriment, servants were sent for the three tournament winners. The king would await their arrival along with Hadrian Usher . Once the three were summoned they would stand before their king as Hadrian introduced them in turn, starting with Katerina.
“Your majesty, may I present to you our first prize winner, Lady Katerina Winters. She’s served us well both here and in Coheed. Her victory is a testament to her skill and commitment to her kingdom.”
He indicated for her to come forward as the other two stood by.

Cassian hadn’t taken more than a sip of the punch, yet still it worked it’s magic on the unsuspecting monarch. He was a closed book, a man with many secrets and much to hide, all of him constantly always under lock and key. It was only in his wolf fur that he gained a sense of freedom from it all. He started to feel that familiar release. The full moon was swiftly approaching, and he considered that to be the cause of the feelings that rushed over and through him.
His eyes followed his entourage as they departed, lingering especially on Regan Lassiter and the dress she was in. She looked the part, and he was pleased. From her his attention moved to who Alys Delaney had decided to seek for her company. That was when his eye fell on Zevran. The Dresmondi…attending a military ball?
Cassian waved the closest attendee over.
“Find my huntsman. Have her escort the Dresmondi out. Someone like him does not belong in this company.” His mouth snapped shut. He hadn’t…he should not have said it that way. It was a blunder. Perhaps the fault of his simmering anger. Why was the outsider here in the first place? There weren’t even no military nobles here. Who did he think he was? Not Nevermerean, to be sure, as the creature constantly at his side reminded everyone of.
His attention moved away, a sharp cutting of his eyes, irritability flashing across his face. It would be good to get this award ceremony over with.
Despite her loud mouth and general penchant for having the biggest attitude in the training ground, she was still (slightly) nervous. It wasn’t like seeing the king was a normal thing for a commoner, let alone getting a gift from him. So she as she was guided to her prize, despite the amazing buzz from the apparently amazing drinks, Kat was sweating a little. Of course she’d play it off that the dress was uncomfortably stifling, but her pulse said otherwise.
Waiting next to her brother and Octavius helped a little, but knowing she’d have to ask first was a slightly daunting task. Luckily she had the confidence of a Van Zant. And so when Hadrian ushered her forward she dipped her head in respect only to find a rather pissy looking King. Had they already offended him with their presence? Maybe he had hoped for less unsavory winners, but that wasn’t her or Kaspers fault.
So she took a breath and forged on. ”Thank you for the opportunity to represent Nevermere your majesty.” Maybe some pleasantries would help his foul mood, although Kat was pretty sure he wouldn’t go back on his word. Unfortunately the next words were just about the opposite, but she felt like speaking her truth. ”There are a lot of things that I want to ask for, someone to actually look into my sister and Rosamere’s death, but I don’t plan to waste my time on that. So instead for my gift I request to work with one the best Arynn Frey enchanters to tailor fit an enchantment for me.” She didn’t want some plot or land, some money or some position. She wanted the best that enchanting had to offer as was her right.

Was Cassian the only one on the platform who had had even a sip of the magic-spiked elixir? Surely not. Perhaps the effects were just taking longer for some than others.
Her request was…complicated. Cassian couldn’t guarantee that Arynn Frey would agree to it, but he could ask. It was a lofty request, surprising coming from a soldier of Nevermere, but perhaps she had witnessed an enchanted item in action and wanted what she saw.
“I will take your request to the queen of Arynn Frey.” And from there, it was out of his hands. Maybe she should have done some research before making her request. Nevertheless, it was made, and now was the time for the runner ups to be presented with their rewards.

Kat’s request, though difficult, was a good one. What soldier of ambition wouldn’t want an enchanted weapon or armor for themselves? Whether she realized it or not, through her performance in the maze, Katerina had caught the captain commander’s eye.
Once the festivities came to a close, a meeting with @katerina was the first thing on Hadrian’s agenda.
For now, Hadrian dismissed Kat and beckoned the other two forward. The commander was feeling jovial, perhaps caught up in the excitement of the celebration. He could hardly wait to get to the dance floor and have this matter dispensed with.
“Your majesty, I present Kasper Van Zant and Octavius Wulfbrand , who claimed second and third place respectively. Now—” With a sign from Hadrian, two waiting attendants stepped forward, one with a gleaming longsword lay flat across their hands, the other with a shining silver bracer word on his arm.
"Both of these items are of Ayrrnite make. The sword will never dull and never break. Now this bracer..." Hadrian nodded to the soldier. Pressing something on the item with his free hand, a half shield sprung into existence. Hadrian grinned before turning back to the soldiers.
"Both will serve you well in combat. Now, as the second-place winner, you, Kasper Van Zant , will choose first."

Kasper is young enough to fall under the werewolf curse, yet it is dormant. Should the curse be activated his wolf form will be that of a white shaggy fur color keeping his smallness even though he is still rather large for a werewolf. His eyes also retain their green color.

Kasper felt no different than he normally did, he had the slight jitters from being so close to the King he'd never been this close to royalty before was all. He thought Kat's request was a fair one better than he would have requested that was for sure, but luckily he didn't have to worry his reward came in the offer of two gifts: a sword that didn't dull and a bracer that wasn't a bracer at all but an enchanted bracer that turned into a shield! It was his lucky night. How odd everything seemed to be going just so well.
"Both will serve you well in combat. Now, as the second-place winner, you, Kasper Van Zant , will choose first."
Some force moved him as he approached both his Commander and King bowing perhaps to deeply than one would, "Thank you for the opportunity to compete in such a grand tournament your majesty, truthfully," and he turned to the Commander opting to take the bracer, he had his axe (he still had to replace the other he oddly remembered), "this...this is the greatest treasure I've ever seen your majesty, I again... truthfully... respectively....thank you..." another bow and he stepped aside.

Octavius felt out of place here. He didn’t think he’d deserved the win, but here he was. Also, it felt awkward to be standing before two very important men. He never aspired to be in close company with the king.
He beamed with pride as Katerina made her request, and when presented with his reward he was more than thankful.
“Thank you, your majesty.” He murmured humbly, accepting the remaining reward of the sword with a bow.

Cassian dipped his head to first Kasper and then Octavius, eyes lingering on the second man’s nose, noticing something eerily familiar about it.
“You do our kingdom proud, soldiers.” He said to them, words of affirmation that seldom left the mouth of this man, his eyes encompassing Kat in that compliment. Their show had truly been impressive, and their teamwork had undoubtedly been a part of it. Perhaps Hadrian’s reform of the system within the military had been the right call after all.
“Go, enjoy the drink, dining, and dancing.“ It was a welcoming dismissal. The bracer and item would be held for them until they decided to leave, for surely they didn’t want to walk around with gear while in this social setting.
