The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

When Aldrich Abbott explained that would come down to the captain commander there was a slight ache in her heart. She looked at @elletta, there was a ting of sadness and anger in her eye mainly to the witch who turned Octavius into the wolf. Like some people would possible blame him however he couldn't be blame he didn't turn willingly. He didn't ask to kill that boy. He didn't want to hurt the Huntsman, he didn't ask to hurt Ber. "I feel like a lot will change after tonight." Her voice says trying to keep calm. Calm within the madness.
She has a feeling that Hadrian will possible will keep a closer watch on training with the witches. Trying to keep a closer look on what sort of magic the witches are learning. However even thought she wouldn't blame him, at the same time with the magic witches have in them they cannot be tammed and their magic is dark so they always be some uncertainty with it.
"Well I ain't yer ma, so what you do is totally up to you." Raff answered Rhedara Shannon on both her comment and later question. If she wasn't sorry, then he didn't see a need for her to apologize then. A sorry should at least be sincere. He shrugged a shoulder at the whole thing and carried on being a spectator at the crowded place. All he knew for sure was that he'd gotten Red outta the throne room fast, but it had sounded and now, looked like a lot had happened inside. Murrmurs filtered through all of the different conversations, but what he caught of them ranged from impossible to silly to downright ugly.
"And the King ignored his guards, fearlessly walked up to the werewolf, just looked at it, and it changed right back that instant!" "The werewofl killed a hundred people and heads were flying off bodies!" "Every guy there was putting the moves on Lassiter, but the King walked off carrying her!" "Someone might have spiked the punch with more than just alcohol!" "The Champion of Nevermere juggled a hundred swords at once while singing!" "A pregnant witch got trampled and started giving birth to werewolf triplets right there in the thone room!"
He shook his head in disregard at all the crazy comments flying around and waited until he could find out some actual facts. And that girl Elodie Atwood looked like she was gonna pass out with shock.
"Good idea." he answered Red.

Rhedara only made a noise in response to what @raff said. She wasn’t sure if a “sorry” would cut it with Abbott. The man hated her, after all. However, it wouldn’t hurt to do it. She’d try and remember to do it when she had her little meeting with the drill instructor the next day.
“I’m going to go check on Elodie Atwood,” she told Raff before getting up to speak to her tavern friend.
"Hey," she would say it gently to the noble, not wanting to startle her, "Are you okay? You can come and sit with me and my..." she hesitated, not sure what to call her relationship with Raff. What did you call someone that you kissed in a tavern the same night you met him, then kissed in the middle of a crowded ball? After a beat of hesitation, she said ”my friend. If you want, that is. This is no time to be alone.”

Elodie startled when Rhedara Shannon approached. It was as if she’d altogether forgotten where she was and slipped into another place entirely. That place was cold, and no thing existed there but the cold eyes of the boy’s lifeless body.
She’d never wanted to go home so badly.
Her eyes, shining with tears, turned up to look at Rhedara. Elodie wanted so badly to be strong. To be like the other soldiers she saw milling about, discussing what came next in hushed but serious tones. But though she tried to draw on her inner courage, Elodie found that well empty.
If she started to speak, Elodie thought she might cry. So she only nodded at Rhedara’s question, forcing her muscles to move so she could pull herself from the ground. She go wherever her friend would lead her, enormously grateful to have someone else managing what she couldn’t seem to manage herself.

When he felt someone place a hand on his shoulder and speak the large Gifted one stopped pacing, head snapping just enough to listen, he recognized the man as the one who jumped up to sing with him at the ball. The drooler.
Othello didn't act brash but he did let a 'hmph' escape as he looked back over at the accused Witches all of them being suddenly ushered away.
"Yeah and I hope whenever is found they cut their fucking head off," he spat bitterly, "and they make their family watch...and then just drown them in the gushing blood of the unattached head..," he was speaking in his head or so he mostly thought but in the brain of Othello Benjamin Allemeade that silent filter for intrusive thoughts just wasn't there. Catching himself he just ignored everything he himself said, "no I didn't get a chance to check or see the Huntsman, she's a tough bird, I'm sure she'll be fine but the other guy," he growled shaking his head, "he's fucked...," now Othello did turn toward the man, "speaking of fucked, what the fuck was that? Those beasts, they weren't summons?"

Even now the witches had departed and the entire messhall was just the innocent bystanders, tension was still in the air. Othello had his mind made up about what he hoped would happen to the witch responsible, and Aldrich couldn't blame him one bit for what he wanted. However, he just nodded along to the words instead of really saying his own piece of mind. His head wasn't clear enough to decide what he wanted to happen to whoever had caused this chaos. And apart from that, he was just worried about Regan, so he did the only logical thing he could think of: ask Othello if he knew more. The man's live consisted of staying close to her, for as far as the officer was aware. That's what she had told him anyway, that night at the tavern. Aldrich nodded again. Berengar had had quite a fall, but the dark haired man didn't care much for the soldier. He had bored him to death, some other night at a tavern. He sure seemed to spend a lot of time at the tavern.
He was slightly taken aback when Othello asked him about what had happened. Aldrich blinked slowly. "You don't know about the werewolf curse?" he asked, to make sure. Depending on the answer he would then explain.
"King Julius III took the throne from Urion and during this chaos, a lot of people died. Among them was Urion's wife Sarilla Morrigan, or well, Ellis. She cursed all the men of Nevermere, relying on some goddess or something she believed in. I don't know if that goddess did something, a curse is a curse, y'know?" He paused a moment. "Anyway, she cursed the men born of a witch with a werewolf form. I'm too old to have one." He chuckled stupidly. "But the men can't control this form. Paired witches got taught a spell to bring out this form and well, someone thought tonight was a good moment."
Kasper is young enough to fall under the werewolf curse, yet it is dormant. Should the curse be activated his wolf form will be that of a white shaggy fur color keeping his smallness even though he is still rather large for a werewolf. His eyes also retain their green color.

Kasper had been given permission to investigate the contents of the drinks served at the ball, just as long as he steered away from the witches that were paired. Easy enough that meant going to the kitchens, did it really matter at this point? To Kasper it did because that meant some idiot or idiots had caused a huge problem and that made them all look guilty. All involved he thought should be punished.
He made his way to the mess hall where he found Aldrich Abbott, a Officer, but Kasper didn't know him personally or well enough except at the tavern. Everyone was hazing the guy, Kasper didn't remember if he had maybe he might have wanted a free round ?
Didn't matter now.
"Officer Abbott? Captain Woodwick wants me to investigate the contents of the drinks served tonight before it's all dumped," he scanned the crowd, "I need two witches to help...pick'em for me?"
Post by Aldrich Abbott on Mar 18, 2023 5:26:17 GMT -5
Before Othello was able to respond to his questions, one of the male paired soldiers said Aldrich's name, causing the man to turn around and look at him. Kasper Van Zant. The mention of Woodwick made him feel angry inside, but he pushed the feeling away. Investigating the punch? The officer raised an eyebrow. The punch being tempered with would make sense...
"Of course", he responded before scanning the crowd himself. "Take Zarha Sliva and Rhedara Shannon with you." He cupped his hands around his mouth. "Sliva, Shannon, duty calls. Come here."
Once the witches had joined them, he would nod towards Kasper. "You'll help Van Zant here investigate the punch. You listen to him until the task is completed, understood?"

Zarha was minding her own business trying to understood the events of the night. It was a lot to take in indeed. However, her mind was pulled out when she heard Abbott call hers and Rhedara's name. Yes work!! However, she can't show that outwardly. So she stood up and headed over to Abbott with her hands behind her back. Standing to attention.
She looked towards Kasper Van Zant when Aldrich Abbott explained that she would be going with him to investigate the punch. "Yes sir." She was intrigued about what they find, thinking about it, there most be something going on with the punch because even she was saying stuff she wouldn't normally say. Like complement Aldrich.

Rhedara lead Elodie Atwood back to where she had been sitting with @raff. She introduced the two of them before sitting down with Raff on one side, Elodie on the other, and had a comforting arm around the girl.
She didn’t know what she was about to do next, but it didn’t matter, Aldrich Abbott summoned her for some task that needed doing. What bad timing! She was hoping to be there for her friend, but couldn’t. She bit her lip against a scowl.
She stood and looked at her two companions, “I’ll be back,” she said before approaching Abbott and Kasper Van Zant. She arrived about the same time as Zarha Sliva and she nodded after listening to what was needed of them. She’d heard the whispers that the punch had been spiked with a potion or something. It would explain her boldness with Raff in the ballroom, although she didn’t feel much embarrassed about it at the moment. Whether that was just a lack of caring, or the lingering effects of the punch, she did not know.
“Yes sir,” she said neutrally and waited for direction from Van Zant.
Raff nodded respectfully to Kasper Van Zant remembering him. He was a good guy and had earned people's respect. He looked to be actively helping just like Red was with Elodie. Why were Sliva and Haider drooling on Abbott? Must be the punch.
Hmm. Well that was strange as hell. That Abbott guy had both @elletta and Zarha Sliva talking to him, standing near him and literally right next to him, but he suddenly ordered out Rhedara Shannon when she was in the middle of taking care of a very in shock and upset Elodie Atwood . Why? The soldier was actively working on the scene already, in the process of helping someone and he called her away from it? It didn't make any sense. The military Raff knew, is about discipline, order, precision, regulations and efficiency. But Abbott seemed to simply do whatever he pleased outside of all of those normal orders. If he personally had two recruits standing right next to him literally doing nothing but talking, those are the two he'd use. It must be a personal grudge as there was no logical reason he could fathom for what Abbott did. Shit happens and it wasn't up to him to babysit Red.
"He don't make any fuckin sense ta me Red, but orders are orders. I'll be here unless we're ordered to leave. Good luck." He put out a hand on her arm to reassure her.
The main thing Raff wanted to know was why wasn't anyone setting up hot drinks in a mess hall for people in shock? Why had no one gathered blankets? Where were the people taking statements for investigation? What the hell kinda meatball lack of procedure dumbass hell was this?! The soldier now sitting at his table was in need of a hot drink, a blanket and a week's nap. While neither he nor Red had been hurt, they were still exhausted from such a long night. Why wasn't anyone in charge doing anything productive or following standard procedure?!
He turned his concerned attention to the woman in front of him who seemed ready to fall over.
"Hey Atwood" Raff said to Elodie in a calming voice, trying to keep her attention focused. "What's yer mama's name? How old are ya?" He reached out a hand to place a couple fingers along the underside of her slim wrist as he spoke. Yikes, he couldn't feel much of a pulse. With a frown he looked closely at her face.
"Elodie, can you look at me? What color's my eyes?" he asked her, noting that her skin was cool and clammy, definitely showing signs of shock.

Elodie didn’t notice Rhedara Shannon leaving until she was already gone. She started to protest, wanting the familiar presence to return. Rhedara had a sweet quality about her. A soothing presence. The man she’d left her with had a different air about him entirely. @raff looked gruff and intimidating on his face, but his intention to be calming was noticed and appreciated. Elodie blinked back tears as she let the man take her wrist without protest.
“I’m—I’m twenty and Mama’s name is—is Demelza. And—and—” She looked up at him, searching for his eyes. She softened for a moment, managing a half smile, “You have nice eyes. I’m sure you’ve heard that before.”
Her words would barely move past her lips.

The courtyard had settled into a quiet, anxious simmer. Soldiers whispered furtively to one another, some in fear, some in anger. Others sat in shock; others stunned by sheer exhaustion.
The training yard’s stillness was broken as a guard of three witches and two soldiers marched onto the scene. They were clearly not partygoers, but soldiers who had the misfortune of being on duty that evening. The witch who seemed to be their leader looked like she was on the warpath. Her brow was furrowed, and her mouth hardened in a scowl.
She searched around the courtyard for someone who seemed to be in charge. The witch decided on Aldrich Abbott , who she approached with a swift marching step, instructing the others to stay and stand guard.
“The paired witches have been gathered,” She reported sharply, “All other partygoers are to go to their bunks or go straight for their private residences and plan to report here first thing in the morning. Outside of this hour, anyone not on duty found wandering the halls of the castle will be detained.” She raised an eyebrow, looking at Othello Allemeade who she just realized was standing there.
“I trust that won’t be a problem?” She redirected her eyes back to Abbott.

Rhedara and Zarha left with Kasper to go and investigate the punch. Moments after, Aldrich was approached by a soldier. She explained that the paired witches had been gathered and that everyone else was to return home.
"Yes ma'am, consider it done, no problem at all", he responded. Only now he realised how exhausted he was. The officer turned around to face the group of people present, before once more cupping his hands around his mouth to bark orders at them. "It's time to go home. Return to your hunk or private residences, but be aware that you must report back tomorrow morning. If you're found walking around the castle, or in the halls, there will be consequences." He removed his hands from aroun his mouth and clapped a few times. "Chop-chop!"
He would wait a moment longer until people started to move. Then he would head over to the kitchen to let Kasper Van Zant , Zarha Sliva and Rhedara Shannon know about the orders.
We won't call it quits. We'll call it the start.

Interruption after interruption kept Othello from sorting out his feelings about what he had just been told. Then they were being dismissed back to their homes or wherever they all slept which meant Othello would be going back to his temporary residence, alone, well Benji was there but he'd be asleep and the old maid would leave. Regan wouldn't be there and he wouldn't know about her condition! Was she alive? What the hell was going on?
And that's when it hit him...
Nevermere was the kingdom of dirty secrets and he was just evidently their weapon, damn how he felt, damn his worry about Regan, and damn him for knowing anything. Fists clenched Othello departed shoving past the little people and the big and the little nasty witches, the taste of bile and anger skimming over his entire mouth.
