Count Ellery took stock of the lovely and lively Lady before him, quite pleased with her sentiments and overall demeanor and countenance. Her subtle agreement in his comparison of children to the animals that they were, very much pleased him. It would appear he was not alone in his sentiment that the vermin weren't even human until they had at least attained adolescence! Lady Snow understood the value and importance of adding to the family fortune rather than squandering their name and achieving nothing. Ambitious and intelligent, the Lady Snow was indeed very impressive, even to his overly discerning eye. Although really, it wasn't a crime to have high standards in life, now was it? He'd say it was more of an excellent mark of character in part with defining one's own station.
When she'd finished her cake she continued to linger over her tea but slipped her hands into her pockets. Coy minx! Technically because she was still drinking tea, it was fine to leave her gloves off. But to tuck her hands in pockets was the most subtle play at flirting with decorum as he'd ever been a witness to. Lord Ellery couldn't blame her one bit though, as her hands were long fingered, elegant and graceful as any lady's could ever be. He knew many ladies were vain about their hands and the Baroness Snow was most certainly no exception to want to display them to their best advantage.
He nodded his sleek blond head in agreement.
"Indeed, taking the country air with family is essential for health and regaining one's vigor to restore equilibrium. I consider my own cousin, Count Wyndham as more of a brother, myself. Family connections are essential to improved mental well-being, I've always maintained, Baroness Snow. "
Baroness Snow's comment had Anselm assuming that she was in agreement with him on the delicate political topic and she handled the subject as a proper Lady should.
"The entire situation is most disagreeably distasteful, I whole heartedly concur My Lady Snow!"
He listened quietly and attentively, hearing her understated nuance in proper caste decency and his smile was complete. It was the denouement in exactly why he was irrevocably drawn to her. The Baroness understood the most important deal breakers for him. Breeding and decorum above all, the Gifted were so disgusting that they shouldn't even be mentioned around food, that children were vile disgusting vermin that no one truly liked, good breeding was essential and that to love your family was important. In that precise moment, Count Ellery set his cap for the Baroness Snow, finding her an exemplary example of proper and potential wife material.
"Madame, I do find that the credit for this most enjoyable tête-à-tête is credited entirely upon your sharp wit, impeccable manners and admirably agile intellectual skills."
While the compliment was smooth enough, Anslem felt he'd made his point clearly that he was interested in her without breeching either good manners, propriety or etiquette.
