The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Change in how times flows. Was 4 IC seasons, now only 2 IC seasons per 1 OOC year.
5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

The Prince had stayed with Regan through the night, but he hadn't been sitting idle. He had poured over enchantments after enchantment, back and forth through stocks of medical enchantments (under the guise of the invisibility pin he had yet returned to his brother (he wasn't under much speaking terms with Sylas at the moment)) extending every bit of accessible and available enchantment. The Prince had done everything for his friend and for his brother in law, now all they could do was wait for Regan to wake.
He worked, with no sleep, at his workbench the enchanted crystal moon on his desk turned into the sun indicating it was now early dawn. It was almost time for Regan's next observation and Akagi would switch out her pain button, so stopping his work the Prince approached the healing tent quietly entering nimbly the same.

Things got worse before they got better.
Once the flow of blood slowed to a stop, the full extent of the damage was clear. In some places, Regan had been slashed to the bone. In others, her flesh hung as if she were a wrapped gift torn open by an over-zealous child. While the prince worked diligently, Regan drifted into a cold place of semi-consciousness. She swam through nightmares—both real and imagined—murmuring requests for Cassian (and once or twice one for Othello).
But after a time, as her body started to clumsily knit itself back together, Regan stilled to sleep with the calming stone in her hand. Her nightmares became more like shadows and less like prowling monsters, and so she sank into the blackness.
It wasn’t until dawn that she crossed back into the waking world again.
Regan groaned, asking for the king, not fully arriving at the where and why of the place she found herself in.

Regan had made a noise as Akagi was zipping up the healing tent, he wanted to speak with her and provide a quick check up before sending someone off to notify the King.
"Regan, dear try not to move okay?" the Prince moved beside her where she lay in the cot taking a corner of the clothes she wore and switched out the old pain button, "This will help with the pain, to a degree, but comfort is what you need for now...The King is awaiting an update on you, should I send word or can I explain your injuries and the outcomes?"
He was as polite and comforting as usual kneeling beside his foreign friend giving a friendly smile, "I can't promise any adventures this time unfortunately," he joked lightly.

It was a lot to process.
Regan did try to rise but found she really couldn’t. So instead she sank back into the cot, turning her hazy eyes toward Akagi as he knelt down beside her. She started to smile back, but the smile quickly faded. Something felt different in the way her face moved. Regan’s brow furrowed.
“What do you mean outcomes?” She reached her hand up to touch her face. Her fingertips dragged along the roughly scarred skin, and her heart dropped.

It was soon written on his face when she realized through touch what he meant by 'outcomes', it actually shattered his heart to look at the her mostly shame, "I swear I did everything but...some damage can't be fixed you understand? I am so so sorry Regan, deeply," the whimsy Akagi was replaced by a strong sympathetic one, and his voice was strained with hurt and pain, "If I had the ability to fix this I would without question but even our magic and its multitude of capabilities can not be perfect."

Regan felt dizzy. Frantically she ran her hands over her face, following the jagged landscape of her skin down to her chest—which was worse yet. She looked at Akagi, equally pained and burning with shame.
“I want to see.” It was an anguished whisper of a request.

"I...," Akagi started to argue but instead he stood exiting the tent with heavy steps to retrieve a little handheld mirror before returning to the tent, "Before I give this to you, understand this, you are still a very beautiful woman Regan, still very beautiful," and he begrudgingly handed her the mirror standing silently one foot kicking back and forth across the ground.

It seemed as if Akagi were gone a lifetime. Regan felt along her chest, up her face again, before she was so lightheaded she had to drop back down again for a moment. When Akagi returned, Regan pulled herself back up again, swinging her legs around to the side of the cot with a groan.
Her heart pounded in her chest as she took the mirror. She had to resist the temptation to snatch it from his hands. To see what had become of her. She angled the mirror, blinking so that her double vision might clear.
Regan froze, staring at the unfamiliar face that looked back.
She wondered if she would have cared had it not been for Lady La’May—the woman who had outfitted her for the ball. She wondered if she hadn’t had a taste of finery, of beauty, of glamour if she would have felt the lump in her throat and the sinking dread that seemed enough to drag her through the floor.
Regan was certain it could have been worse. Was equally certain that Akagi had gone above and beyond; had done everything he could. But the damage was still starling. Angry, dark purple scars twisted across one side of her face; down her cheek, across her lip to her chin, and deeply across the bridge of her nose so that there was a divot cut out of the bridge. One slash started on her forehead, splitting her eyebrow like a trench and continuing down to the other side. All of it made the scar she’d worn under her eye all these years nearly invisible by comparison.
Regan’s eyes dropped down to her chest, pulling the collar of the tunic she’d been redressed in down and to the side so she could see it properly. It was an island of rippled and mountain ranges and depressed rivers from where the chunk of skin had been torn away. There were deeper slashes that could be seen—the same dark purple that lined her face.
Regan was silent for a long time. For how long she wasn’t sure. Her lips wouldn’t move, as if her tongue too had been ripped out. Eventually, she forced them to speak, watching them in the mirror as if to confirm that they were her own.
“You saved my life,” Regan tore her eyes away from the image, dropping the mirror to the cot, “And for that I’m grateful. Really. You’ve done…more than enough.” Her words, though she meant them, sounded hollow.

"oh yeah, yes of course, though," he stopped talking because it was true Akagi had done all he could but to see the pain and hurt Regan was in was stuttering, "no you are right I did all I could, it is what a friend would do for another yes? Anyways, the scarring we can fade with enchantments over time if you would like," he couldn't help but play brainstorm and let's fix this, that was just Princes nature, "I have heard of Enchantments that can hide cosmetic things such as scaring or say a nasty rash, but honestly," he was trying to cheer her up, "I wouldn't hide a thing about you Regan, those scars are badass...respectfully..."

Regan was only half listening. The rusted gears of her mind were starting to unstick, the events of the ball coming back. The words of the Dresmondi, Ber’s defense, Alys’s hand on her arm, and then—
Octavius. The witch. And somewhere, distantly, she could hear Alys’s roar.
“The king—” Regan said, not acknowledging Akagi’s suggestions for she barely heard them, “Have you heard from him? Is he…I need to get back.” She tried to rise.

Akagi stood holding up the palms of his hands, "The King returned to Nevermere, I can send for him but I must urge you to remain under the tent a little while longer," he was firm and soft at the same time in his delivery to Regan, "Some of your internals organs could still be healing and yet still be damaged, I will send for him if you wish."

And Regan believed him. Sitting up so fast had been a bad idea. Regan fell back down to her cot as she winced. There was still damage she couldn’t see. Seemed apropos given the circumstances.
“No, that’s alright,” Regan said with a groan, “He’ll send for me when he’s ready, I’m sure.” She chuckled. “I take orders, don’t give them.” She was somewhere between tickled to death and ready to burst into tears.
She let her head fall to the side so she could look at the prince more clearly. “When I thought about my next visit to Arynn Frey, this wasn’t quite what I had in mind.” Regan wanted a distraction. Something. Anything.

"I admire your resolve, but still I'll send word to him that you are awake," the Prince exited the tent but Regan would still be able to see and hear him as he rambled through his bag for his pad and quill, "as hard as it is to read my brother in law I believe he was deeply concerned over you Regan," the quill scribbled out a message to which Akagi tore from the parchment pad, "Are you hungry or thirsty? I didn't think I'd see you again friend and I wish it weren't under these circumstances.." he wanted to pry, the curious mind of his had looked those scars over and watched those deep gashes heal. Something big and nasty caused that damage.
"...still I am humbled by it anyways. Glad you are alive."

Regan didn’t fight it. Selfishly she hoped Cassian would come. She could feel his absence like a tug in her chest. She was also selfishly glad to hear that Cassian was concerned about her. Even under the circumstances, it made her lip twitch into a smile. It was validation that she meant something to Cassian—and she’d take that wherever she could get it.
“Me too,” Regan whispered, though it didn’t have the same energy or warmth behind it that it probably should. “I’m just tired, I think.” Regan said, “Feels like I’ve been dragged up a mountain by my ankles facedown.”

"Yes," he said in agreement with a dry humorous tone, "A jagged little mountain, a weaker man wouldn't have survived it and if the King hadn't been quick to get you here I'll say you could have been far worse."
Akagi approached the door of the tent offering a comforting smile, "Now, I do believe you need your rest and I'll send word to King Cassian. Again, can i offer you something to eat or drink?" always the gracious host.
