The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
With the wedding coming up, Astor was finally starting to feel a bit more free. He was going to be away from his father, away from his rotten last name. And it was filling him with a happy energy. Usually it was something he dug deep for and plastered on like his cheesy jokes. But today it was a really happy vibration. One that lead him to visit a good friend.
At one time his cousin had tried to set him and Santiana up, but clearly he was destined for other things. And now he was just glad to chat with her about the good news of his future. A future away from his dictator of a father. It had been something that had scared him away from forming any type of romantic relationships, and he was going to have Scout to thank everyday for saving him from that life. Even if it was to cover for her.
So he knocked and waited to be announced a goofy smile on his face.

Santiana was collecting her wits, spending time sitting in the roaring fireplace as she mulled over recent news she'd received. Her brother was gone, well, she thought he was her brother. She was adopted? She was a member of a family called "Allemeade?" She had so many questions, and no idea who to ask them.
A knock came to the door, loud enough she was able to hear it. Immediately, she scrambled from the fire and attempted to wipe the soot from her face. She always wound up covered in ash when she did this. She would spent a few moments to wash her face while the servants answered the door.
Astor would be given a proper greeting and motioned to follow the servant to the study where Santiana was still trying to clean the soot off. Well, guess he would see, and she would simply be embarrassed, this time. Before the servant could announce Astor's name, she'd simply smile at him, attempting to hide her blush with some of her hair, and say, "You seem in unusually high spirits today. What brought this on?"
Astor let himself be lead through the De Carlo home, news of Gideon passing not reaching his ears yet. So all he had in mind was that it was time for a celebration! He, Astor Porter, was getting married and was no longer going to be a Porter. It was great news, especially since he got to save his sister too, maybe her and Santiana could hang out too. So as he walked into the study he practically bounded forward like a puppy.
That’s when the smell of smoke caught his nostrils, odd since he wasn’t close to the fire. But while his nose twitched and he sneezed, Astor was too happy to let it bother him. ”Someone light the wrong kindling I’m here or something?” Laughing he bowed his head towards Santiana before going back to his usual antics. ”You’ll never guess what happened! I’ll even give you three guesses!”

Santiana couldn't help the smile that spread on her features at Astor's energy. It was refreshing and certainly something she needed other than a distraction. She even giggled at his sneezing, which was entirely her fault, not that she'd say anything.
"Not the kindling. I was just poking the fire and the log collapsed into the soot. I know I should have let the servant handle it, but I couldn't help it. The fire is far to beautiful to let them have all the fun with it." Perhaps Astor wouldn't know her meaning behind such words, but she wouldn't give him any hints either.
And speaking of hints... "Let's see...you....earned a promotion?" was her first guess.
"Beautiful? I guess I've never looked at it that way, spend a lot of time staring into fires Sunny?" Laughing, Astor had never much enjoyed fire. It usually meant pain for him, the good memories about reading next to the fire with his mum breaking through on occasion.
Shaking his head, Astor thought she was giving him far too much credit. "A promotion? With the cotton between my ears? Guess again!"

Staring into fires....sitting in them....same thing. Not that Santiana would say as much out loud. At least not now. "I like to watch the fire dance when I need to think," came the honest answer.
Her gaze had been drawn towards the fire briefly as well as Astor told her to guess again. "Well, if not a promotion.....you....had a growth spurt?" That one was more to tease.
Fire dancing? It seemed as though Santiana was absolutely serious on the matter. But Astor had never seen it such a way. Fire consumed and destroyed, but danced? "Dance? What do you mean?"
Astor stepped closer and put his hand on the top of his head, swinging it out gently above her head. "Nah same height difference, but good guess!"

Santiana giggled, then motioned for Astor to stand near the fire with her. She pointed at the logs. "Just look. The fire is not merely a wild animal that consumes and destroys, but it has its own dance, its own job in this world. In nature, it is renewal. Sure things may die, but the diseases they had are consumed along with it, so that the new generation may be even stronger."
She motioned as the fire seemed to rhythmically moved across the log. "And as you see, it has its own best, its own rhythm. Its own dance. The movements are elegant and graceful, and if you sway your body to the movements of the flames, you too would be performing it's dance."
She smiled again. She didn't get to talk much about this stuff with people, usually Gideon, but he was gone now. A bit of sadness was in her eyes briefly, but she shook it off and tapped her chin. "Well, surely there is no way you could be getting married so.....you got a puppy?" More teasing.
Astor moved to the fire with Santiana, but he made sure to stay behind her. Maybe a slightly cowardly thing to do, but he had only felt the pain of it where she saw beauty. He had been the disease that was consumed by fire, at least that's what his father had said. Burn away the weakness.
All the same, he watched as she asked of him. He saw some flickers, but he still wasn't sure if it was a dance or a roaring bar fight. "You amaze me sometimes Sunny, seeing the beauty in just about everything. Well not sometimes, all the times, but not the point." Shaking his head, he leaned away, looking at Santiana and seeing her transfixion with the fire. Interesting...
"You knew!" Laughing he gave Sunny's shoulder a light shove, shaking his head. "I wanted to give you the news though!"
