The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Change in how times flows. Was 4 IC seasons, now only 2 IC seasons per 1 OOC year.
5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

The Lady Steward needed to read more about the history of the kingdom. She must have missed something, somewhere. From history we learn, and we attempt to not let it repeat itself, but she and her fellow royal employees had been lacking. Gifted attacks and anti-Gifted terrorism occurred more and more often, and they had to nip it in the bud before someone turned on the crown again. What the Eldouir had done was not forgotten. The death of lord DeCarlo had been the last straw for her. Now her baby was gone, she needed to focus on work more than ever to suppress the depressed feelings that somehow had taken a hold of her, even though she was happy that she wouldn't have to explain to everyone why her child didn't look like Astor. It was difficult though. Except for Astor, she had nobody to talk to about the miscarriage. Nobody had known but him.
Thinking about this almost caused her to fall from the ladder attached to the tall bookshelves. She hadn't noticed that someone had approached the ladder which had started her. "My apologies", she said as she climbed down to move the ladder, guessing the person wanted to grab a book that had been blocked off.
Coraline had come to the library to look for more books to read to the children when she had seen a woman on one of the ladders looking for something. But when she realized the girl hadn't moved much she had gone over to her to see if she was alright. The woman had ended up nearly falling which caused Coraline's heart to leap in her chest as she jumped, placing her hand over her heart.
"Goodness, I'm so sorry. I didn't meant to scare you. I just wanted to make sure you were alright. You seemed...lost in thought?" she asked, concern etched on her delicate features.

Only when the woman spoke she recognised her. "Lady Gray", Scout said before curtsying one she had climbed down. "I was indeed lost in thought, I suppose", she laughed weakly. "But don't worry, you have nothing to apologize for. I should've paid more attention to my surroundings." The woman in front of her took care of the children, but Scout didn't see the royal children, or any of the council's children around. Thinking about children made her sad again, and she uncomfortably rubbed her arm a bit. "How are you doing, my lady? I hope I didn't startle you too much."
Coraline waved away the younger woman's apology with a gentle smile. "I'm doing well, thank you." Or as well as she could while secretly being jealous of her lover's relationship with his wife. It was a good thing she hid that so beautifully.
"And what of yourself? How's married life treating you," she asked. It was impossible to know the Kane name even if she'd been too lowly to be invited to the wedding.

She smiled softly at Caroline. "I'm glad to hear", she said. She didn't know anything about the woman's affair with the prince, but if she knew, she wouldn't blame her. The prince was charming, handsome and smart. Scout didn't think of him in an inappropriate way, but she surely considered his wife to be a lucky woman -- and that also went for his mistress.
"Very well, thank you for asking! We've recently moved into our own home. I've been so busy with decorating and getting everything in order." She made a gesture with her hands to indicate that her head was about to explode. "It's exhausting! But also exciting."
Scout was a little on the older side to have just got married but she certainly couldn't talk. She was older, had a son, and had still never been wed. She knew it wasn't the best look for her reputation but she would never give up on Augustus. No one knew about their affair, or very few people anyway, though his wife was well aware of it. She still had hope that one day he would choose her instead, she knew he loved her but society made her not valuable enough for a prince. She understood it, but she would hold onto that hope for change until her dying breath.
She smiled warmly at Scout. "An exciting and exhausting time, indeed," she said with a little chuckle. "I hope you take the time to truly enjoy it and to focus on one another during this time. I see so many get swept up in the rest of the world that once they are wed they nearly forget about each other. Do make sure that doesn't happen to you. You deserve better than that."

Although they had never really talked before, Coraline was kind and caring. Her words were warm and it appeared that her intentions were good. "We will certainly try", she responded. She could wish to spend a lot of time together all she wanted, but the truth was that she would always be very busy with her job, and that Astor was also a busy man. He spend long days at the military wing. She was looking forward to practising with him, though. Ever since she left the military, she hadn't been training all that much.
You deserve better than that. She still wasn't sure what she did and didn't deserve. Astor was certainly too good for her, although he and some other people might think differently. She knew he wasn't a Porter like his father was a Porter. He tried to break the chain of abuse.
"What brings you to the library today?" Scout then asked, trying to keep the conversation going without going on and on about her marriage.
Coraline had nearly forgotten why she was there and she turned for a moment to look around the library as if searching for the answer to Scout's question. "Oh, I was just looking for some more books to read to the children," she explained. "I try to come down at least once a week to switch things up for them. Though they still don't have the attention span for much more beyond picture books."
She looked back to the ladder that Scout had been on and back to the woman. "What about you? Looking for anything interesting?" Surely nearly everything was more interesting than children's books.

Children's books. The grief-stricken Scout kept it together and nothing on her face would indicate what she felt inside when she thought about reading her now deceased unborn baby a book. She would have loved to be a mother, but fate was cruel, and it had ripped her baby away from her. Even though it was Dresden's baby, and even though it would have been a hush-hush situation, she would have loved the baby, and it wat a good thing that Scout didn't know that Oriana was responsible for it.
"Lovely", Scout then said with a smile, putting all her might and will into making sure the corners of her mouth didn't tremble. But she was successful. "Picture books sound perfect, though, if you have a good imagination. You can make up stories on the spot and they won't be able to confirm whether it's a real story or not anyway." Scout laughed.
Then she sighed. "I was looking for books on the history of Lorendale. I'm trying to wrap my head around the Gifted issues. Not quite as entertaining as children's books, I'm afraid."

"Perhaps not as entertaining, but far more interesting to be sure," Coraline said with a smile. She knew very little about all of that beyond what had been told her by her parents. For the most part she tried to stay out of the middle of it. She knew it wasn't perhaps the most responsible thing to do, she ought to have some sort of opinion, but as it had yet to actually affect her personally she was far more focused on her son and in her job to those sweet little princes.
"Well, I'd hate to hold you up, Lady Kane on such important work. I hope you find what you're looking for," she said.
