The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
It would be two days after the ball before Hadrian would be able to steal a few moments to go down to the infirmary and see his niece. She was doing well, and her remaining at the infirmary was largely a precaution—one that Hadrian was happy for them to take.
His visit to the infirmary was to assess her condition—and assuage his fears—but he had other business with her as well. A conversation that he was resolved to have, but wasn’t too eager to start.
He’d go to where she was, summoning a fatherly smile though his face was lined with exhaustion.

Valeria was getting rest she promised Keir that she was going to rest but she want to be on her feet helping she heard that there was rumors going around that it was Bex who turned Octavius. She was angry at that woman who put everyone in danger the way she did. That she rather create chaos that think about the impact that it had on people. However, she knew that her dad was getting it sorted.
She heard about the recent updates about the routine which in her opinion seams fair, like with everything that coming, after the shit show that was the ball it needed. She didn't expect a visit from her dad when he came in. Her eyes soften when he saw his face. "Hi Dad." Her face was soft. She straighten up to attention.
She want to ask if the rumors true but she knows not to. "Hows everybody? Have that boy's family been informed?" She know Keir not wanting to not have her military head on, but she was a usher.

If she tried to stand up, Hadrian would hold out a hand, urging her to sit back down. He’d sit, pulling a chair to be by her bedside. An exhausted sigh left him as he sat. Hadrian thought darkly for a moment that he was really starting to sound like an old man. That should probably be of some concern.
“The boy’s family has been informed, yes. That news is never easy to take. As for the rest…” Hadrian rubbed his forehead in obvious frustration, “There’s a difficult road ahead. And I fear all might not make it to the end.” As the ominous sentence trailed off, he quickly added: “Of training, I mean.”
But is that really what he meant?
If Valeria would allow it, Hadrian would reach for her hand. He wouldn’t look at her face, instead focusing on where is hand covered hers. Even now, it was so small beneath his. Like she was still a child.
“Valeria, there’s something I’d like to ask of you.”

She relaxs back into the bed. "Well after the events at the ball it just showed that they going to be changes and with what been in place it make sense. Like with what coming up we can't be slacking." Val eyes was soft looking at her dad, knowing that right now he have a million things on his plate.
"We can't take risk and if that mean cutting people who can't handle it then so be it." Val give her father a reassuring smile.
When he toke her hand in his she gave it a reassuring squeeze and smiled softly. "Who the best Captain commander in the whole Terra Nova? That a easily one you." She know he was trying to be serious "Sure go ahead." Her eyes looks at the man in front of her. The man who raised her.

Hadrian squeezed her hand back, returning his gaze to meet Val’s. It wasn’t an unkind look in his eyes, but a serious one. It was her commander looking at her now—not the father, not the man that raised her. Whatever it was, Hadrian had assumed a tone of certainty. Of demand.
“I’d like for you to resign your position,” Hadrian said, voice low but firm, “For your sake. For your child’s sake. For mine.”

Val looked at her father there was something stuck in her throat, did she do something wrong? She pulled her hand away slowly from her father hand. "I see...." She know the face of the commander. Military have been her life, her blood, she was Usher by blood. Her eyes looked away trying to keep herself composed.
"Yes commander." She was a Usher, she felt like she let her father down. She looked at her father. The look of sorry in her eyes, she knows he only doing this because he care for her and doesn't want to lose her. But still she wanted to be out on the sea. "I don't know what to do if i am not a soldier."

Hadrian’s relief would be evident. He let Valeria pull her hand away but reached for it again once she spoke about what came next. He understood. Hadrian’s entire identity was wrapped up in his position, as Logan’s had been. When Logan had resigned, he’d been adrift. He’d lost everything.
“I’ll request for a suitable position to be arranged,” Hadrian said with confidence, “You’ll not be resigned to a life of anonymity. There’s still much work to be done—not all of it on the battlefield.” He smiled, trying his best to be reassuring.

Val looked at her dad a week smile on her face. "I know. it just. It always been our dream to be out on sea together. When you became commander... I just thought there was more of the world yet to explore for me." End of a era for the ushers in that sense. "I know you only asked because you care dad."

“I do.”
He squeezed Valeria’s hand. Perhaps it was selfish. Perhaps he was denying his niece the career she’d always dreamed of because he valued her safety over her desires. But Hadrian had raised Valeria without her mother. He did not intend to raise his grandchild too, should Valeria be killed in the war.
“I should let you get some rest. I just wanted to…” He smiled sadly, “Ease my mind.”

Val squeezed his hand back, she know if she was in his position she would to. "I should be able to go home soon, but dad... if you need a second pair of ears. Just ask for me." She might not be a soldier but she was his daughter and she want him happy. "Promise me when the war happens try and come home. I want the baby to meet their grandfather." She give her dad a soft smile. She doesn't want to let go but she know she has to he might be her dad but he was the captain commander and he is a busy man.

“I will.” His eyes were soft, looking at her now as if she were still a little girl toddling around the estate. Hadrian leaned in and kissed her forehead before standing to leave.
“Get some rest. Return to the estate when you are able. And please, please,” He paused, almost pleading, “Take care of yourself.” And with that, the commander turned to leave.
