The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Change in how times flows. Was 4 IC seasons, now only 2 IC seasons per 1 OOC year.
5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
He hummed as he considered her question. "Well to be honest with you, I do not perform much enchanting these days. But previously, it was whatever I felt I needed for day to day life. Oh, and also the enchants I could perform on my military gear. You can truly work on whatever you like, whether it be for your own use or as gifts for another person."
They approached the library and started to ascend the stairs.
Calanthe liked the idea of enchanting for herself, but making what others wanted but couldn't perform themselves, that was an interesting option. She liked to talk with people, and giving gifts was always fun. Are the military enchantments trickier? I'd imagine you have to make sure they are secure, can't have a misstep while fighting. That was one of the many reasons she looked up to her aunt. Keeping everything in check while fighting so well.
Climbing the stairs she wasn't sure how long Keion could stay, but she missed this more than studying. For now at least.
He shrugged a bit at her question. "I wouldn't say they are more difficult, just perhaps a bit more pressure to get them perfect. As you said, we can't have any issues come up while in battle." Not that most of the current military members had ever seen a true battle. It had been so long, thankfully, since Arynn Frey had been called to anything bigger than a small conflict. But he feared the day was growing ever closer that they would be called to something much bigger.
They entered the library and he found them an empty table in a bit of a far off corner of the room. He settled into a chair and turned his attention back to her, waiting for whatever else she might want to ask him.
Calanthe was ready for the pressure of making something perfect. She craved it more than anything, but her teachers said jumping in too fast wasn't a good idea. Determination and ambition ran in the family though, so who was she to deny that. She settled into the chair, inquisitive look plastered on her face. So many questions flew through her head, none needing an answer right away, but to here they did. When you hit a road block enchanting how do you get past it? If there were tricks she wanted to learn them all.
A quizzical look came to his face at her question. He pondered how exactly to answer it, his fingers tapping lightly on the table for a bit. "Do you mean a roadblock as in an issue with the enchanting? Or are you asking about something similar to, say, writer's block?" He scanned their surroundings and the people around them as he waited for her answer, looking to see if anyone familiar popped out at him. Nothing struck him as odd at first glance, so he turned a smile back to Calanthe.
Calanthe would have to be completely unobservant to not see her uncle scanning the room. Really though she was used to it by now, especially since he always seemed to be working or on some secret mission. It made her wonder if that was something she would become eventually, head always on a swivel, figuring out the next move. "I think more like the latter, like you are part way through and everything starts getting... wrong?" She'd seen a couple of older students deal with that, and she didn't want to struggle (even though that was part of the process).
He sat back in his chair and nodded a bit at her, "The only sure way to overcome that is to take a break and come back to the enchantment, I think. Especially now while you're still completing your studies, you spend so many hours working on enchants that sometimes your mind finds its own ways to tell you it needs a break."
He contemplated a bit then smiled at her again. "When you're done with your studies, you will find yourself having less issues finishing enchants because you will only work on the things you choose to work on, rather than what you need to work on for your studies."
Calanthe was glad that her uncle had a good way of explaining things. Most of her teachers just told her not to worry, she was a daughter of the Blackwood family after all. Keion at least helped her understand why it wasn't something she had to fret about. And honestly she really wasn't worried, more curious about how to conquer her next step in life. Smiling at her uncle she nodded her head enthusiastically.
"I'm excited to try everything! The starting stuff is cool but super boring. I just want to make something a little more interesting. But patience is a virtue or whatever." She slumped a little in her chair, sighing. There was so much to be done, and making a heating stone was just drab.
Keion chuckled quietly, his eyes shining with amusement as he watched Calanthe pout. "Again, my dearest niece, there is no reason to rush. I understand the beginning of your studies is boring, but you cannot master the harder enchantments without first mastering the easy enchantments."
He studied her for a moment, "Try not to give your teachers too much grief, they know what they are talking about. Now, unless you have any other pressing questions, I should probably get back to business." He smiled, his eyes wandering around the library once more.
Calanthe sighed but she nodded her head in agreement. She hated to see her uncle go, especially since she never knew when he'd be back. He had so many things to do and it really didn't seem fair, but she understood (to a certain extent). "I'll try to be patient uncle, but no promises."
Still she wasn't going to let him get away without one more promise. "When you get back maybe I'll be able make you something amazing! It will be like a reverse birthday gift!" She looked at him with hope and happiness in her eyes, plus it meant that he had to come back in one piece.
He could not help but smile and laugh at her, shaking his head a bit. What he would give to be as young as she, with only his studies to worry about. He stood from his chair, coming around the table and placed a hand on her shoulder. He leaned down and kissed the top of her head, then ruffled her hair once more. "I would really like that. Make sure it's something you will really enjoy creating, okay?"
He would give her some time to respond before he would nod in a goodbye and wander off to a different part of the library.
Calanthe's eyes sparkled with excitement. She was going to make something amazing and cool. Even if it meant spending a couple of extra hours scouring the library. "Of course I'll enjoy it! Because it will be amazing." Smiling up at Keion she wrapped him in a quick hug before skipping off. Maybe she did have another two hours of studying left in her after all.
