"Welcome to Terra Nova, far-traveler." A short, round man with blushing cheeks and a feather waving from his wool cap sets his beady eyes on you and approaches with care. His smile is friendly but also eager, likely for the coin he hopes to earn as a result of his hospitality. "Might I interest you in a tour?" Your willingness to follow is inconsequential; he eagerly ushers you to a rather crude wagon and proceeds to take you on a tour of the land...


The community of Heir Apparent is always sincerely excited to see potential new members (and characters) joining our community! It's important that you know exactly what you are considering getting into, and this guide is intended to give you a glimpse of just that.

Heir Apparent is made up of adult writers, averaging between the ages of 25-30 (in fact, you must be 18+ to write on our site). We have varying levels of activity and involvement, though the average writer posts 1-3 times a day. As you can conclude, that means our threads and stories are moving, ensuring the progression of character development and story arcs.

As a whole, we strive to be organic & surprising, promoting the natural unfolding of stories and relationships by planning less OOC and writing more IC. We embrace the unknown, basking in the surprises, whether they are good for our characters or not.

We have a particular emphasis on character development, and have implemented a leveling system intended to help promote that end. Our plots are almost never forcibly integrated under staff authority, but are instead started and carried by members (acknowledging that staff are members too).

In an effort to maintain realism, some of the content within our stories can capture a dark, gritty writing experience; this isn't meant to be an inch-deep roleplay with cartoonish characters and exchanges. The world is populated by rich, complex characters who are beautiful and messy and tangled up in a diverse, complicated world. Participating members must master the art of separating the OOC writer from the IC character, as too much self-investment in the character or plot can easily spiral.

As you have likely already determined, Heir Apparent is not for everyone. We bend and even break some of the assumed systems of the average roleplay site in our quest to accomplish a more diverse, more detailed, more dramatic, more daring collaborative storytelling experience.

2. Check out our KINGDOMS OF TERRA NOVA to get a feel for the land and what is happening here IC.
3. Join DISCORD to start connecting with the community and to ask questions as you create your first character.
4. After reviewing the CHARACTER CREATION GUIDELINES, begin working on your character via the CHARACTER APP, reviewing our FAMILIES OF IMPORTANCE and CENSUS for inspiration.
5. After you've posted your app, make sure you grasp how TIME AND SPACE work.
6. MEET OUR MEMBERS and tell us a little about yourself as well!
