The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

Of course Sylas was quite and didn't brag about himself, he had always been guarded his entire life except for the company he kept with Kezia. Akagi was clearly proud of his room, he folded his arms over his chest as if like a Father showing off a favored child, his smile said as much.
"I do! All are very powerful and in time I'll let you learn to use them as well of you'd like," Akagi was staring at his collection still smiling, "but first let's get warmed up yes? If you'll join me in the training circle where the dummy is," Akagi would lead his new Dresmondi pupils to the center of the room, "Okay, if you'll observe," he pointed to the same bracers on his wrists and ankles that he gave to Kester, "These fit like any normal bracers," Akagi took a deep breath as he began to shadow strike the around him mixing in strikes with flashy kicks as Kester put her items on. When it looked like she was done Akagi gently took her wrist, "These stones here and here will adjust the weight of the bracers: one click is twenty to forty pounds, two clicks is fifty to hundred, and three is hundred and ten pounds to hundred and fifty," he let go of her wrist and showed her his which was currently sitting at three, "same with the ones on your ankles, click to what you are comfortable with and take a few minutes to move around..."
Akagi’s obvious pride had a smile rising to Kester’s lips while she watched him survey his collection of weapons, impressed not only but the number of them but also the variety of what he had mastered. Some she recognized as relatives of those with which she had fought in Dresmond, but others appeared entirely foreign. “Yes, I would like that,” She said with a nod. “Thank you.”
After setting the quill and parchment aside where they wouldn’t get damaged, she followed Akagi to the center of the ring and listened to his instruction. Head tilted curiously, Walnut stood on his hind legs and watched for a moment as the prince showed Kester his own bracers, but the river otter’s attention soon wandered when his human began putting on his own set. With a flick of his tail, he froze some of the moisture in the air around the dummy into ice, which he then shaped into a mustache and top hat that he stuck to the dummy. Though it looked eerily similar to an individual that he’d seen in the crowd earlier today, the construction itself was all-in-all a goofy one. When Kester looked up from buckling the last bracer on her ankle, she merely gave him a long-suffering looked - so he turned to Akagi for the entertainer reaction he sought.
Standing upright, Kester let the prince take her wrist and examined the stones on the side. She pushed the first button, immediately felt the additional weight, and decided that one click on each of the bracers would be a good place to start. After she had made it so and begun walking around, shaking out her arms and feeling the drag on all of her limbs, the Dresmondi turned back to Akagi, grinning. This would be a challenge that would leave her aching and exhausting, but she craved the fight.

Akagi was mesmerized by the ice forming on the dummy, he looked at her dyr, again boundless enchantment idea clouding his mind. The things he could make. While he thoroughly enjoyed the dyrs magic Akagi enjoyed showing off enchantments so while Kester tested the bracers the dummy moved, circling Akagi as wooden arms folded out.
The Prince took a defensive stance just as the dummy lunged towards the Prince, he moved fluidly as he blocked the dummies attacks: ducking and blocking, he attempted striking punches then kicks that showcased a strong flexibility from Akagi. The dummy seemed to be familiar with the Princes combat, adjusting to the style but even more they were in sync the whole time. It stopped abruptly when both men blocked each other sending them sliding backwards.
The Prince then turned down the setting on his bracers to one, again the dummy came forward. It was different this time the Prince was way way faster, he landed several strikes against the dummy actually making the dummy give ground, it was losing and seemed to be to slow to amount any defense and then the Prince left he ground with a spinning kick that when it connected the dummies head spun three times before folding on the ground. Akagi landed in a squat....
As she finished adjusting her own bracers and began to stretch, Kester looked up to see that Akagi in motion, fighting against the dummy that had suddenly sprung to life to face him. Like stepping through the motions of a dance rather than the messier combat she was accustomed to witnessing, they dummy and the prince wove around each other in synchrony, and the Dresmondi recognized even more the expertise that Akagi held in this domain: only a master could make something so difficult look so easy. Indeed, that opinion only grew as he adjusted his bracers and the second round began, then ended with a kick to the dummy’s head. When he finished and turned back to her, Kester grinned and quietly mimed applause alongside her dyr. “Impressive.”
Once the lesson began in earnest, Akagi would find himself with an eager student. As a born and raised Dijila, Kester was no stranger to fighting, and she would throw herself into this latest challenge without reserve. For the most part, Walnut lingered to the side, entertaining himself with juggling a piece of ice or investigating the little corners of the room, but occasionally, she would call on him to participate, usually in the form of some elemental magic here or there to enhance a blow against a hypothetical opponent. By the time the lesson began to draw to a close, Kester’s shoulders were heaving, she was covered with a thin sheen of sweat, and a satisfying ache had taken up residence in her arms and legs.
Walking a couple laps around the ring to cool down, the Dresmondi tossed a smile in the prince’s direction before looking around for some water to drink. “I know who to come to when I want a workout,” She said, once she’d picked up the quill and paper again. “How long have you been doing this, again?”

Akagi had to capture this he just had to. He retreated for his work station collecting parchment, paint (not just paint but Arynn Frey paints), and brushes the excitement was almost to much he forgot the painting esiel and his stool but he feared not dragging them behind him.
He quickly set up for his impromptu art project but still he had to capture this. The Prince worked wildly as Kester trained even more amazingly he got to see the Dresmondi and dyr pair work together. Like his study of combat the Prince had studied art once for about six years and painting had come incredibly easy for him plus when it came designing enchantments it came in handy. The colors and the lines, the angles in which the painter splashed them down began to solidify into exactly what Akagi saw...
...when it was all said and done everything had faded into the parchment, gone as if nothing had ever happened. A blank canvas. Still Akagi smiled brightly as Kester came over, "you ever want to train again, any time, we shall," he was all energy and positivity as he climbed off his stool, "give or take forty years but look at this," he turned the parchment over revealing....nothing...but he encouraged her to look..."watch...," and then the painting slowly began to appear with all the colors he had used only it wasn't just a painting it was a moving picture!
Initially the painting started with just Kesters actual routine she had demonstrated and it wasn't detailed, Kester was there but she lacked a face, as did Walnut because it had progressed further only now it began to change and the pairing was more of a cohesive unit only something like a light armour began to appear on Kester and Walnut their own little battle armor...they both were riding a ice wave!
As it progressed Akagi began to explain, "As I watched you both inspiration struck, I won't pretend to know how your dyr does it, you know producing their element...but...well how does it work first?" a little clarity to his already forming hypothesis would clear somethings up.
“Forty years?” Standing up on his hind legs, Walnut stared at Akagi, jaw falling open in shock. Kester, too, blinked at the prince for a moment before glancing down at her dyr, only to do a double take at his display of obvious surprise and tell him to close his mouth. Walnut turned his attention to Kester, lifting one arm to gesture at their companion. “What?” He protested. “Akagi doesn’t even look forty.”
Amused, Kester only shook her head at him before turning to give the prince her full attention. Curiosity turned to amazement as the painting first materialized on the blank page and then came to life. Recognizing Walnut before she recognized herself, she watched as their faceless figures went through the familiar motions of a fight, working together to defeat an invisible enemy - then, as Akagi offered his explanation, the picture evolved before her eyes. Fingers toyed with the strap of one of the bracers on her wrist as she watched armor appear on their two dimensional counterparts, who now rode an ice wave.
With wide eyes, she looked at the image a moment longer before turning to face him. Beside her, the river otter had already started freezing some of the moisture in the air around him so that he could try to make a smaller version of the wave that he’d seen in the painting. “Walnut can freeze any water around him,” Kester explained, her gaze drifting from the prince to the snow that now lay around her dyr. “Once it’s frozen, he can do anything he wants with it.” A pause as the snow packed together and hardened into ice. “As long as he’s around, he can keep it frozen indefinitely, but if he gets distracted or decides to focus on something else, the ice will melt back into water.”
She looked back at Akagi. “@kaveri said he and Nephys met you. We fought alongside them.” Water and ice and a lifetime of teamwork made for a deadly combination.

The Prince couldn't help but be amazed at the falling snow, it was so beautiful and he welcomed it cooling nature against his skin. He watched the otters surprised reaction to his forty years revelation that made him grin his goofy smile, a newfound respect grew within Akagi for the dyr and he saw perhaps as best as an outsider could understand about a dyr and their Dresmondi connection. It ran much deeper than a silent mental connection but perhaps a spiritual level. Were their souls bound just as the Arynnites bound souls to their enchantments or their marriages?
It was something to be pondered for later.
"And in a water state he can't manipulate it further? Which is why you'd need the pairing of a dyr that wills water," more yet to ponder, it grew clearer at the mention of Kaveri, "Ah Kaveri bless his soul! A gentleman and kind, I shared a drink or two with him at a spot I assume he enjoys," a lot, "and Nephys, so amazingly powerful in presence. Are you and Kaveri..a um..couple? I'm not familiar with courting or marriages of your peoples.."
Although Kester smiled freely, she had a tendency to use them as a shield more than anything else. When Walnut grinned, it was genuine, and as she looked at Akagi’s answering goofiness, she suspected that the prince was much the same way. Once upon a time, Kaveri had been like that as well. And speaking of Kaveri… She watched silently as Akagi put everything together with a speed that she could only attribute to the sharp intelligence that every Arynnite she’d met had honed since childhood.
“A couple?” The words had her pausing for a moment before she recalled the Arynnite customs that differed so greatly from her own. Monogamy. Marriage. “Here, you pick a single partner to spend the rest of your life with,” Kester began, searching for confirmation of what she thought she knew. “But we don’t do anything like that.” A moment later, she corrected herself. “Well, some people do, I guess. Most of us share wagons freely with whoever is interested and harbor no expectation of anything further.”
And what of herself and Kaveri? What were they? Something easy and natural turned complicated and painful. One more casualty of the Eldouir. “Kaveri and I have known each other our entire lives. We’ve trained and fought and lived together and with that comes a certain familiarity.” Kester shrugged. “What do you need to do to be considered a couple?”

"Does he make you happy? Does he make you feel safe? Do you do the same for him? I guess you really can't define what a couple is, I say it's a certain shared connection a bonding really...," Akagi rambled, "and here young Kester yes we do find someone to spend the rest of our lives with, but it goes deeper it's another thing we approach with a logical sense we spend years with someone before we marry because it is going to be a long long life for us here...it has to be cared, nurtured, and built upon. Much like your relationship with your dyr we to in marriage are bonded by our souls to our loved one...a soul bonding where we feel and embrace each other's emotions...it's more of a process than picking a partner...me my Felita for example spent years growing to know each other before we married."
