The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Change in how times flows. Was 4 IC seasons, now only 2 IC seasons per 1 OOC year.
5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Astor thought that Dresden understood why their situations were different. Apparently he didn't though. "You don't get it, do you? My father would kill Ikisina if he heard about what happened the other day. Let alone that nothing happened, let alone that i stopped it. He would see it as a threat to the family, and killing women is like blinking an eye." The Kane's were an old family, but they weren't about to slit Dresden's throat. That was a Porter trait, and whoever had the balls to kill off a few of them.
Raising an eyebrow Astor shook his head. "Nah I'd still be pissed at you. It doesn't matter your status, you know better. She does too, but this wasn't your first time around." Dresden was acting like noble woman were just allowed to fuck other nobles or something. That wasn't how any of it worked, and maybe that was because he wasn't one of them, but Astor was pretty sure everyone knew that.
"You better hope something better comes around. If this is it, it's gonna get dragged out and you know it." Gossip, was just about the only thing that people had to keep warm during heims. And if nothing better came along it would still get brought out. Astor shook his head trying to shake out the anger or something. Anything.
But of course Dresden just made things worse. "What the fuck are you talking about? You know what I always have respected about you Dresden, your confidence and how little you cared about what others thought. Don't pretend to change for my sake, Scouts maybe, but not mine." Taking a step back Astor would continue to do so unless he was stopped or rounded the corner. He didn't understand what was going on, and he was confused and angry. A combination he didn't like, and had been going through a lot lately.
"I do get it. That's my point, Astor. Love don't fix shit. The situations might be different, but that much is the same. We're both fucked either way, so what difference does it make if we're in love or not?" He shrugged. Regardless of how dire or extreme the differences in the situation, or the solutions, love wouldn't change anything. Even if Scout and Dresden were really in love, which they weren't, they still couldn't get married. And even if Astor really loved Ikisina, which was doubtful, he couldn't keep his family from slaughtering her. It just added fuel to Dresden's fire. Love was pointless. It benefited only a select few, and the rest be damned.
"Well yeah you'd still be pissed," he said, rolling his eyes. "But if I was a Noble, me and her could get married and a potential baby wouldn't be as big a problem. It'd be a much easier fix, wouldn't it? I mean come on man, I know I was usin' status as an excuse pretty heavy there, but you're ignorin' it completely which is just as bad. Don't act like it wouldn't be different. Maybe it wouldn't be for you and your feelin's toward me, but it would be real different for me and Scout." The following comment Astor made bit into Dresden a little. I mean sure, the blonde man was no virtuous soul. He'd been with a woman or two in his time. None of them Noble, that was for sure. But he clearly thought it was Scout's first time around, and as much as Dresden wanted to burst that bubble for him...he wouldn't. Not yet.
"Change?" Dresden laughed from his spot on the ground, shaking his head. "Naw, I ain't changed man. Especially not for you. 'Cause I still don't care what people think 'bout me but last I recall, you're supposed to care 'bout how your friends feel. Just thought that was what I was doin'." He finished that cigarette and put it out with his boot, like he'd done the last one. "In the long run, figurin' out a way to make things work out for Scout and a way to keep Ikisina safe is all I care 'bout. So I'll focus on that, and you do...whatever it is you do." He didn't get up or try to stop Astor leaving. He sat there on the ground for a few minutes with the man gone, then got up and brushed himself off. He fixed his shirt and used his fingers to comb through his hair, then walked back around into the bar and greeted those he'd left behind with a wide smile.
"I'm not ignoring anything. These situations were completely different, because apparently, I was the only one with a brain. And that's incredibly stupid." Astor being the smartest and most level-headed person in a group? That was not a good sign for anything. He wasn't bright, at least that's what he had been lead to believe but the last week might have proved otherwise.
Astor had made the assumption that Dresden's tales about women of the night had been more than just tales. If that wasn't the case it was very much his own fault there. Astor had trusted who he had thought was his friend and took all his words as truth.
Shaking his head, Astor wasn't sure who this person in front of him was. It wasn't his friend, not the Dresden that he thought he knew. So he continued away. "Nah, friends are supposed to not keep secrets or tell lies. I at least know that much." Sure he didn't have a lot of friends, but the one's he had were true. Scout, Baldovino, maybe even that Neveremere witch Regan someday. But the fact that Dresden admitted to wanting to tell him what he wanted to hear? Even thick in the head Astor could pick up on what that meant. And with that he was gone.
