The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

"I don't really know," said Grant, after a moment, looking at his hands for a second. "I feel bad for missing it, but. I kinda feel worse for Alys, since. You know. They're married--were." Grant made a face.
Especially since they'd been on a camping trip together for the entirety of Aestas, just about.

“Married. Yeah.”
Regan pulled herself off the bed and shuffled over to Grant. Unless he protested, she’d further delay his dressing and wrap her arms around him, pressing her face to his chest as she gently squeezed him.

Their first mission.
It hurt. Regan didn't expect it to, but it did. She couldn't help but be pleased with her new-found success. Even if the rest of Nevermere didn't have confidence in her, the king did. And even before the bite, Cassian's confidence had meant everything. The bite had just made it more personal.
She peeked up at Grant, looking sheepish and a little sad.
"I didn't mean for things to end up this way. With the king and everything. It all just kind of...happened."

Grant looked down at her and blinked, frowning. "Well, yeah, I know you didn't mean it. That's half of why I didn't hit you any harder." He gave her a little squeeze. He was still annoyed he was out a partner, but in a much more vague and confused way. Sure he'd enjoyed spending time with Alys, but it had also been time emphatically not spent with his partner of over five years. And also wow was Alys not having a good few days, probably.
"How the hell do you 'accidentally' attack a King?" he said, remembering vaguely Kennet saying something all those weeks ago.

“I just…you know. The hound thing. Like with Alys.” Regan had yet to fully separate herself from Grant. Instead, she just stood there, chin tipped up and arms around him. “Cassian just…I don’t know. Got to me somehow.”

Regan snorted and shook her head. "No, not exactly." It was difficult to say just what it was. A desire to prove herself? A need for affirmation? Or just base animal instinct in overdrive? It didn't matter now, she supposed.
"But, I guess it all worked out," Regan shrugged, separating from Grant to let him finish dressing, "Still get to do my thing. Even if it is different." She grimaced, looking at Grant with big sad puppy eyes before a spark of realization entered them.
"Speaking of which, I've got a mission for you. Or rather, we've got a mission."

"Yeah." Regan grinned wildly, glad to have good news for Grant when so much of what she'd had to deliver lately was garbage. "An arrest mission. There's a gifted in Coheed that Cassian, er, his majesty wants retrieved."

Grant also momentarily forgot they were not supposed to address Cassian as anything nearly that familiar. Instead of saying anything, though, he skipped over that. Job! Military. Glory.
He nodded. "Okay, yes," he said, excited. "So why am I coming?" he asked, blinking. "Also how are we gonna arrest the Gifted? That didn't, uh, go so well last time we tried in Lorendale. And we already had the guy on trial."

As a favor.
"Backup, I guess," Regan said with a bursting smile, "I dunno, he tells me to do stuff and I do it." That was the essence of Regan's military success: don't ask questions, just follow orders.
"It'll be fine," Regan said with a cocky wave of her hand, "We'll figure it out. It won't be like last time." Obviously.
She was glad to make Grant happy. She'd thought she couldn't do that anymore.

"Alright, good," said Grant. "Not quite Rangers but I'll take it." He finished buttoning his shirt and then looked at her. "So that's where we're off to, then? You waking me up and us going to go out and get?"
Partners again! At least for a little while. He'd take that.

"Yeah," Regan straightened up, putting on an attempt at an authoritative face, "Something like that. We leave in a couple of hours." She beamed, eyes big and shiny as she looked up at Grant.

Grant nodded. "So you outrank me now," he said, thinking about that. He never got promoted for committing assault. Pretty much always the opposite, or latrine duty--anyway. "At least, probably? I've literally never heard of a King's Huntsman before now. That sounds pretty important," he said, smiling right back down at his former partner and now maybe-superior.
