Yes, she recalled traveling with the Adoi even though it was for only a short period of time. During the attack from Coheed they had been separated. Elijah and Legba had been killed, and Xanthe and Savi had joined with a small group of women and children from the Kushti. They kept mostly to themselves while traveling with the Adoi, who were much more aggressive than they were used to. There were a few Adoi who utilized Light, but Xanthe had no desire to get closer to them. Instead of teaching, they were more concerned with competition. Xanthe and Embric had always worked with one another, not against. So the Kushti women had not interacted much with those around them. When the medallion was lost and everything devolved into chaos, they took a single wagon their own way. But it hadn't worked out, for a lot of reasons.
It wasn't surprising to her that Embric had tried to embrace some of the Adoi teachings. He was always a fast learner, and it made sense that Kasni would pick it up faster than any of them, because she had to. She had no other choice.
He was right about practicing their magic separately, though. It'd be more beneficial to work together and learn together, but they couldn't take the risk. "I've heard that those who wield darkness can...materialize it in some way. Make it physical. I want to try that. I don't know if it's possible, but shadow is no more tangible than light. I have no idea where to start, though. It'd help if I knew someone who wielded darkness but I haven't met anyone in Elderkeep who does." Xanthe shook her head when he asked if Tazmin knew that she and Embric knew one another. As far as Xanthe knew, there would have been no way. She hadn't mentioned Embric in their short, horrifying time together.
"Anyway, if Kasni is better than you, I'd rather take lessons from her. We can meet early in the mornings, we both hunt around that time and that way she'll have someone to keep an eye out for her while she's hunting. I don't like she goes alone so often, even if she has Echo."
