She supposed for a dresmondi, it didn't make much sense to be in all those building that remained in one place. It was a fair thought. Though she wouldn't exactly say every building was a copy of the one next to it, at least not any more than each dresmondi wagon was a copy of the others around them. Each architect had their own style and there was more variety in Lorendale than surely Rhidi could possibly understand.
She didn't both to say any of this however, he probably wouldn't understand anyway. "It makes me wonder though," she said thoughtfully, "living in wagons made sense when you spent your lives traveling. But now that you're here in Elderkeep, would it not be wise to build larger and more stable homes? With earth, ore, and plant dyrs," she said, looking at Cypha on Rhidi's shoulders, "you are more than capable of making something warm and comfortable." She remembered a conversation she'd had recently with Adeline and this idea had been brought up. Why in the world did the dresmondi not use their magic in these kinds of practical ways?
They were getting nearer the estate as Rhidi explained what he and Cypha did every day. Nothing. They simply survived. Elena couldn't imagine having such little drive. Again, with a gift like hers they could have better than they seemed to have thought of themselves. "Hmmm," she hummed thoughtfully, pondering this new information, or lack of it. It was people like Rhidi and Cypha that made so many Dresmondi underestimate them. But that didn't mean these two didn't have value.
They stepped through the gate and up towards the doors where a pair of dresmondi soldiers, one with a bat dyr and the other with a baboon, opened the door for them.
They stepped into the entrance of the Eldouir Estate, the air was instantly warmer and Elena could feel the tingle of her reddened cheeks as they started to thaw out. Compared to the wagons the Dresmondi lived in, it was basically a palace, though Elena certainly knew the difference. The smell of warm food wafted through the air and chatter echoed around the halls from all the activity going on inside. A small waif of a woman approached them. Her red hair that was in a messy looking braid gave her away as an Eldouir. Her gift was rather benign, leaving her with a lesser, though important job, of caretaker and at least for the evening, servant for dinner.
"Two servings in the smaller dining room," Elena told the woman. Then, with a glance back at Rhidi and Cypha, she corrected herself. "Make that three." The woman nodded and bowed and then scurried away while Elena continued on down the hall.
