Ber picked up on Temperance’s quieter tone, but given he had no reservations about the prospect of war, he didn’t recognize hers. When she bade him to work hard, he blinked at her but was quick enough to agree. “Yeah,” He said with a nod, somewhat confused by the apparent non sequitur but eager to reassure her all the same. “Of course.” It wasn’t like he would have a choice anyway. Woodwick was brutal on any given day, and he’d only gotten worse now that war had been all but confirmed.
As far as people went, however, Zevran was a much better person to spend time around, think about, and discuss with Temperance. Her confirmation of his failure to mention his friend had him letting out an amused huff and a dry, “Consider me shamed.” But he was smiling, partly at her joking shaming of him but mostly at the thought of his two friends meeting each other and getting along. It hardly surprised him that they would - Temperance could befriend a rock and Zev was far more charming than that - but of all the people he thought he would have wanted to introduce to his sparring buddy, it would have been Temperance. At her suggestion, he imagined them all packed together around the little dinner table in her cottage, and with a warm fondness in his chest, he nodded. “That’d be nice. I’ll ask; I think they’d like that.”
Looking up from where he was picking at the crumbs of his bread, Ber glanced over at Temperance. “He’s also told me a lot about Dresmond,” He offered, thinking of the way she hadn’t known about the coming war. “I might be able to answer questions you have about it.” Possibly. Zevran had spoken a lot about his home kingdom in response to Ber’s inquiries, but the soldier had found that plenty additional information was revealed simply through normal conversations too. He wouldn’t call himself an expert, but he felt reasonably confident that he knew more than most soldiers about it.
Temperance’s next question earned her another nod. “Yes,” He said as he remembered all the times he’d lost to them while sparring. A pause. “Well, together they are. Rune controls darkness, which makes it hard to fight them, but if there’s no magic being used…” Ber lifted a shoulder in a shrug. “He’s not bad. It’s just, until now, he was never really trained to fight.”
