[ For @berengar ]
It had taken Warren some time to look over all of the information that he had received from @thom. The man was much, much more thorough than expected, but that wasn't a complaint. He'd brought a lot to Warren's attention, but the lieutenant feared that the case was becoming much too big for him to take on before his departure for Zulu Carr. Leaving it unfinished had an unpleasant feeling lingering in the pit of his stomach. If he left it as it was right now, he would have no reason to fear for his families safety while he was gone.
But how many more people would have to die at the hands of such unchecked injustice? Long was certainly no victim, he had caused his fair share of destruction, but he wasn't the source of it all. No, the source was what was plaguing Skia. With what was sure to be great, gruesome war peaking just over the horizon at them, the citizens of Skia would be vulnerable to non-war related crimes. People were always taken advantage of during times of war, and he knew that these criminals, whoever they were, were smart enough to figure that out. As soon as the bulk of Nevermere's military flooded out to cross the mountains, the monsters would swoop in.
The other monsters. The home-grown ones.
He hadn't wanted to continue involving the young man, but he felt he had no choice. Having someone to work alongside made things move faster, and ensured that at least one other person had the information if the other went missing, or died. Until he found someone else he could trust with it all, he'd be bringing Stormcrest along again. Most likely. Well, he was going to give him the option, at least. Sort of.
Eh, he'd figured it out on the way.
The courtyard was full of new and old trainees, some bright and young and seeing everything through fresh eyes, some more jaded and all too used to this part of Rainecourt castle. Stepping up to the drill sergeant running a groups exercises, Warren leaned in and spoke a word or two. After which, the guy nodded, and Warren reached a hand out toward Ber. "Mr. Stormcrest, come with me, please." Warren said, loud enough for Ber to hear him over the group who was supposed to be doing their exercises, but had paused to watch Ber get called out.
"Get back to your work, you chickens!" The DI shouted, and they did so with their eyes still lingering on the young man as Warren waited for him to approach and would begin walking away, expecting him to follow, as soon as Ber was out of the crowd. They would turn, but not the usual way. Not toward the offices, or the mess hall, or the barracks. No, they would turn toward the path that led to the prison cells beneath the castle. "Has Mr. Skerrick updated you on what he found regarding Whitby's crimes, Mr. Stormcrest?" Warren asked as he walked. They wouldn't get too far, but far enough to be out of ear-shot from the soldiers in the courtyard, before Warren would pause and turn to face Ber.
