She hadn't expected Ber to say much of anything. If he had wanted to, she would have welcomed it with open arms. But he hadn't grown up with a loving family like hers, he hadn't really grown up with any family at all. There had been no one around to ask about his feelings, and those who had likely only wanted to know the answers so they could use them against him. Temperance understood the way of his world, though it was very much from the outside. She'd spent a lot of time treating people like him. People who came for healing but were terrified to even tell her their name. It made her deeply sad, but as long as he sat and listened, and allowed her to tell him how much she cared; as long as he knew that he had people and that he wasn't alone, that was enough for her.
So when he quickly switched into her joke, she continued to smile, and shrugged her shoulders. "No, I won't. Because now that we aren't dead, it's rather funny, isn't it?" She giggled thinking about it. She'd already scolded him for it, so there was no reason to reiterate a lesson she hoped he had already learned.
It wasn't surprising that he didn't know much of Beldam. It was probably more of something that loomed over the heads of witches in the military, but soldiers were not sent there. She nodded though, and this time she was the one avoiding his eyes. "It's a place that witches are sent when they've...lost control of themselves. When they begin using their magic to hurt people, or become a danger to themselves and others. It's meant to reform them, though admittedly that rarely happens."
She was glossing over it by a lot, really, but with everything that had happened to him lately, she didn't want him to worry. Besides, she couldn't allow him to let it slip to anyone about what she was sure Cam Petyr was doing. Not until she found a way to help those that were there. "I'm going to be working there on and off. I'll be gone for a week, come back for two weeks, be gone another week, and so on. I'm going to be studying the witches there, so I can figure out my new potion more thoroughly. If it all works out right, I might really be able to help the women there."
She sighed, looking down into the pot at her potion. "I just wanted you to know, in case you come over and I'm not here. It's stashed away in the mountains, so it's a bit of a trip and Thomas and Melody will be handling things for me while I'm gone."
