The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Sitting back with her drink in her hand. "I guess with the oldest two the both doing their mandatory training and they youngest they are a handful. Plus.." She looked down at her drink "I guess I worry about getting to close to them and them dying, I couldn't protect my brother when he pass away. Before his passing I wasn't like this, I was fun... I gave drill instructors a run for their money during mandatory training. I didn't curse, I still respected them, I just... I was." She took a breath, "relaxed to be myself." Her eyes was soft remembering simpler times.
She laughed a bit at the thought "I think this is the longest I've ever sat down and just talked." It felt strange, her feet feel like they should be moving doing something. She took a sip just as Abbott suggested that he to accomply her to a tavern next time they play music. Which made the drink go down the wrong hole. She coughed slightly. "Sorry about that sir. I.. I would appreciate to visit a tavern well there playing music." She guess she has to get some clothes that not training clothes.

His frowned when he looked up at her from his glass. He wasn't about to tell her how she should live her life (although he had been doing exactly that the past couple of minutes) but hearing her dat she didn't dare to be close to her family was off to him. Even though he didn't see his brothers often, they had used to be close, and he wouldn't want to miss out on being close just because one day he'd die. But the story about her deceased brother explained quite s lot. He grunted slightly and rubbed his neck. "My condolences, Sliva." Losing a sibling couldn't be easy, especially not on a young girl. He liked the little jab at Rhedara, it made Zarha more human to him that she would say something about a fellow soldier, or well, previous fellow soldier. "You should make him proud by reclaiming your life. There's no use in bein' droopy."
She chocked on her drink when he suggested taking her to a dance, right after saying this was the longest she had just sat down to talk. Aldrich smirked momentarily and hid it behind his hand, pretending to scratch his face. He then nodded. "We'll do that, then. But I'll accompany you, help you to a dancing partner, but I can't dance with ya. That wouldn't be appropriate." He took another sip of his drink. "Tell me more about yourself, go on then. Keep talking." If this was the longest she had been sitting and talking to someone, she needed to do it more often.

She smiled softly thinking about her brother. It wasn't a full smile but it was true. "I will try for him."
Maybe she should try and relax a little. "Yeah I hope you take no offense but you too old for my liking anyway Lieutenant." She give a little laugh as she takes a drink of the whiskey. When he suggested her to keep talking she thought for a moment. She doesn't really know where to being or to start she placed her drink down. "When I can I would visit the bakery near the castle on the way to the barracks and picked up a sweet treat. Hardly anyone knows this but walking by it one of my favorite part of going to work. they do this stunning cakes that just feels so soft and.." Zarha stopped as she was talking with her hands as well as a wide grin on her face... "I am talking too much ain't I? I am sorry?"

He raised his eyebrows a bit, pretending to be taken aback by her remark about his age. He wasn't offended, but in a way, he actually was taken aback. Zarha was finally becoming a bit more sociable and outgoing, and he was glad that she had found her sense of humour. So he chuckled lightly before sipping from his whiskey. She put her glass down and did what he asked: she kept talking. He listened to what she was saying, and was happy to be able to hear a bit about what she did when she was on her way to the castle, when she was basically still free from her duties.
The lieutenant shook his head when she asked if she was talking too much. "No, by all means, go on. Which one of their cakes do you like the best?" To help her keep going, he would tell her a bit as well. "I've always liked apple cake. My mother used to make it when I was little. It's simple, but good."

When he said that she could carry on. Normally people tell her to speak less to keep her head low. Better seen and not heard. It was a strange sensation. A warm smile on her face when Abbott told her about his favorite cake and his mother used to bake it for him. "I do like apple pie as well, but I loved anything sweet, i have a bit of a sweet tooth. But when i do go they do this Battenberg cake, it simple yet every time I bite into it it feel like I am like a little child running around Nevermere with my brother playing tag, telling stories." She kind of fancy a slice now but she was on duty still in a way so instead the warm feeling stays in her brain.

It was truly a whole other Zarha that now sat in front of him. He had never seen her smile much before, and it seemed like she was glad that someone was finally listening to her, even though it was just chit-chat. People needed to be heard to blossom, and even though Aldrich wasn't the kindest or most empathetic guy around, he too knew this.
"It's amazing when food is able to remind us of who we were when we were little kids", the lieutenant agreed, taking another sip of his whiskey. "So you still do this when you go to the palace, or is it something you used to do?" He hoped she still did it. Little personal rituals like that healed the soul.

When he asked if she still does it, she laughed softly. "Not as much I would like to sir or can afford too. However maybe that a good thing because if i eat the whole bakery it would give me a very good reason to do as much training to lose the weight I would of gained." There was a joke. A rare thing indeed.
She takes a sip of her whiskey, "My mother Jessica I only have one good memory of her when I was little, she used to sing me this song for me and my brother when we was little to help use get to sleep. 'Sweet sunshine, you light up my life, Everything about us feels so right Sweet sunshine, your love is divine, I'm just so happy that you're mine' She explained that before she mat our father there was this guy who thought she loves but it could never work between them. However they had this song to remember each other by."

He smiled at her joke. Perhaps Zarha didn't understand why he had brought her along today, but Aldrich sure did, and his mission was succeeding. Zarha was talking more, being more human and open about who she was. It was great improvement on how she had been for the past couple of months.
And she was drinking whiskey. He really hadn't expected her to accept the glass, but here they were, drinking and talking. The clean-up would still happen, but later. Now she deserved to enjoy this conversation.
"And your dad didn't mind her singing you a song that she shared with a past lover?" he asked, slightly raising an eyebrow, although it was still visible that he was amused.

There was a small laugh. "The man who raised me well if you can even say that he was never around, well neither was my mother, so I don't know. But then again she only sung that song to me and my twin, she never sing it to the younger. Do you have any lovers, past lovers?" She raised her eye brows relaxed.
Then she realise what she asked. "I am sorry sir. I shouldn't be asking such questions. It feels odd that you getting to know me and I only know you are Lieutenant." Her eyes were apologetic

He nodded. Fathers seemed to be difficult in Nevermere. A lot of them didn't act like fathers. They were just men, somewhere present but never around. Personally he had been lucky enough to grow up with a father. The man had been stern and not very loving, but he had been there to help his sons become great soldiers. Love just wasn't a characteristic that many fathers in the kingdom possessed.
Her question did catch him off guard, but he didn't want to risk Zarha crawling back into her shell, so he didn't make a point of it. "It's indeed typically not a question you should be asking a superior, but it's alright, don't worry", he said, leaning back in the chair a bit. "No lovers that are important enough to mention. I never settled down. I used to be like you, you know? I would just train all day long and don't enjoy my spare time. It became depressing, and by the time I realised that, I was in my late twenties, almost early thirties. So even though you're a soldier, enjoy your youth." He took another sip of the whiskey, finishing the glass. "Do you have any friends in the military?"
We won't call it quits. We'll call it the start.

When Abbott said nothing to worry about and went on answering her question, she felt a bit stupid. However when he explained that he was like her when he was her age he was like her and that it became depressing. her eyes soften. "I am sorry to hear that sir." She looked at his glass she still have about half a glass to go when he asked her about if she has any friends. "I have tried to make friends, however, the just see me as Zarha the soldier who trains. I have tried talking to people but.. it is hard talking to people."
Post by Aldrich Abbott on Apr 12, 2023 10:39:35 GMT -5
He didn't say anything when Zarha said she was sorry to hear about how he felt like he had wasted his youth, but hoped that it would make it clear to her that she still had time to enjoy her young years.
"I get that. It can indeed be difficult to get along with people, but you're talking to me now, and with me it's far more difficult to talk than to talk to someone your own age." He didn't smile, but had meant what he said with good intentions. "Join them in the messhall some time, or go out with them when they're going to a tavern. I know you don't drink much, but you don't have to drink to have fun." He couldn't believe he had just said these words, because in his case, he didn't need to have fun to drink.

Zarha laughed. "Don't sell yourself sort sir, you have managed to get more out of me then people my own age have gotten out of me." The was a small smile. If he wasn't her lieutenant she would appreciate him as a friend. He wanted her to be her best. "The only time i go in the mess hall is when it time to eat but it the only thing I can do at the moment, plus working six days a week I can't really stroll into the bunkers drunk."

He hadn't meant to sell himself short, and she proved the point that he had in fact been making. She was more willing to open up to a superior than to people her own age. She needed to bond with the other soldiers more than with him. After all, she would spend far more time with them than with him.
"But see, that's where you're wrong. You don't need to drink when you socialise, and at dinner in the messhall there's plenty of people to talk to", he said. "You work six days a week, sure, but you're free at night. The other soldiers play cards, get a drink, talk in their bunks. Why don't you?"

Eyeing her drink in her hand she thought why she doesn't interact with people in the mess hall or in the bunker. "I have tried sir. I have honestly have tried. But everytime I open my mouth to even ask how are you? they look at me like i am some sort of freak. Some sort of loser." She takes a sip from her drink but she knocked a bit down.
