TYBALT KANE
GENERAL
Name: Tybalt Kane
Age: Thirty-eight
Birth Season: Summer
Occupation: Captain of the Royal Guard
Citizen Status: Marquis
PHYSICAL
Height: 6'1
Weight: 200 lbs
Body Description: Tybalt is a relatively tall and fit man. He has many scars from his time in the military and fighting wars.
PERSONAL
Alignment: Lawful good
Reputation: Strength, honor and honesty is Tybalt's personal motto.
Tybalt is a firm believer in a code of virtue and honor which says that it is the duty of the strong to protect the weak which he preaches frequently to those under his command. A veteran fighter, he's learned to be cautious and the importance of self-control. Despite his social status, the knight is more comfortable on horseback than he is in a ballroom or with the intricacies of court life. As a result, you'll usually find him on the fringes of large social events, watching silently. He's a simple man and longs for a simple life. He isn't afraid to get his hands dirty with hard work and privately disapproves of those who abuse their ranks and privilege, especially where the commoners whom he views as the backbone of the kingdom are concerned. He doesn't lie or sneak around, being decidedly direct. Sturdy and reliable, he's an earthy sort of man who is more than willing to give advice to younger ears willing to listen.
His rise to captain might be explained by the simple fact that he is not an ambitious man, in that he wants nothing for himself. He puts the good of the kingdom and its people before all else. He will fulfill his duty to the bitter end if needs be and asks nothing in return. Righteous, he is known to be strict when it comes to those under his command. The Royal Guard, in his mind, reflects the monarchy and as a result they must be beyond reproach. He does not take well to dissidence in the ranks. He demands and expects excellence. That being said, the captain does care immensely for those under his command and would likely give his life for them. His word is his bond. One of the few ways to get under his skin is if his honor is called into question. He prides himself on being beyond reproach in his behavior, avoiding scandals to the best of his ability and treading lightly as far as diplomacy is concerned.
It's not for the captain of the guard to have political views in his opinion. He's astute enough to keep his cards - if he even has any - close to his chest. He refuses point blank to talk about them. Stating that his allegiance is to Lorendale and its royal family. Perhaps more personally, he believes that the kingdom needs a firm but fair ruler, one who will stand their ground whilst also looking after its people...
Combat Experience: Tybalt was trained from his youngest years as a warrior. His father and mother took personal responsibility for ensuring that their children were battle-ready. Like all of his family, he was intended to be a cavalryman and was put on a horse almost as soon as he could walk. A relatively strong man, he wields a longsword as his blade of choice but can at a push use other weapons. Much of Tybalt's skill comes from experience as opposed to natural talent. It's something he's been doing for a very long time and practice, as the saying goes, makes perfect.
MAGIC
No magic.
LEVEL 10 UPDATE: Tybalt was nearly struck down in the battle between Lorendale and Coheed at the northern border of the kingdom. His life was saved by a gifted who took the force she put in him from a man of Coheed. After this occurrence, Tybalt found himself with enhanced strength and hearing, just like the men of Coheed.
LEVEL 20 UPDATE: Arynnite armor. The armor have two states: active and inactive. When inactive, they look like little more than ornate metal bracers, easily ignored. When triggered, the armor covers Tybalt and serves as an exoskeleton. It will protect its wearer from physical damage and is practically indestructible.
The armor has a certain "preprogrammed" purpose which is to protect its host. To do so, it reacts to heightened emotional states such as fear and anger, at which point the armor will trigger regardless of whether or not Tybalt wants it to or even if he's immediately aware of the threat. It has some degree of awareness and sentience although very basic and one which struggles to differentiate between enemies and friends. Whilst not actually in possession of a will, the armor can guide or direct its host in a specific action, much like a reflex.
The armor needs to be "fed" as Tybalt has discovered meaning that he must hold and absorb through touch certain metals such as steel, copper, iron and tin, a process which takes a few minutes. Without which, the armor will begin to weaken and become less effective until no longer able to manifest.
Perhaps its greatest weakness is that if being consistently bashed or beaten, it would begin to repair itself by using parts of the armor from elsewhere. For instance, if the wearer is being consistently hit in the chest, the armor will begin to pool away from other parts of their body such as the feet and hands, leaving them vulnerable.
HISTORY
Family:
]Thaddius Kane (father, deceased)
Eira Kane (mother, 63)
Arius Kane (older brother, deceased age 24)
Irma Kane (older sister, deceased age 22)
Jerrah Kane (younger brother, deceased aged 18)
Lucy Kane (younger sister, deceased age 18)
Tale:
The Kane family lands exist to the south of Lorendale, on the borders with Dresmond. They are known for three things: citrus fruit, horses and warriors. At one time, the Kanes were a powerful and influential family, hence their titles as Marquis. All that remains now of that time is Kane Manor.
A peculiarity of the family is that they pride themselves on their reputation as fighters, never shying away from war and their loyalty to the crown. They lead something of a spartan life and rarely partake in celebrations, frowning upon luxury. Although some cynics claim that this is because of the relative poverty of the Kanes. They also frequently marry comparatively late and frown upon marriages between cousins, using the logic that "if it isn't good for horses, it isn't good for man". This has lead to the family slowly but surely decreasing in number.
By the time that Tybalt was born, all other lines of the Kane family had died out through years of combat. The middle child in a house of five, he was trained combat and horse riding from the youngest ages and fought in his first battle aged 16. Since then, life has been a serious of wars and conflicts, many of which Tybalt never truly understood, nor did he question. He was a warrior, fighting for Lorendale and its king. That is all there was to it.
He lost his family one by one: his eldest brother was killed during a battle against Coheed, his eldest sister slain by an arrow from some bandits, Jerrah and his father died side by side, fighting once more against the neighboring hostile tribes and his remaining youngest sibling met her end whilst protecting some refugees.
At the age of 28, with the number of Kanes in the world dwindling dangerously low, Tybalt's aging mother saw to it that he entered the Royal Guard, intent on ensuring that her last remaining child was away from the worst of the fighting and stood a chance of continuing the lineage. There, Tybalt slowly gained in rank, appreciated for his honesty, courage and apparent lack of self-interest. At 34, he became the Captain of the Royal Guard. A position which suits him but none-the-less sometimes leaves him a little unsettled by the political intricacies of the court which he desperately tries to stay out of.
Now, he is aware that he is growing older and as the last of his line, he really should be thinking about finding a wife... With the king dying and no immediate successor however, he's acutely aware that such pleasantries might have to wait.
